Subscription business ... want to give up..

I've been running this for a year now and I am struggling A LOT.

I am unsure WHERE I am going wrong. Which is why I'd like to share you with my funnel

I teach people languages through online interactive lessons. Users can do the first 3 for free, and the rest are paid for through a subscription which costs roughly 7.95 GBP ($11.99 USD) / month

My funnel (past 30 days):

What should I be focusing on more???

I have tried focusing on the part from "Lesson Started" -> "Lesson Finished" ... however that is quite hard.

The most FRUSTRATING part for me are the 47 people who landed on the payment page and only 2 people paid!!

I don't think the price is too expensive... do you?

I'm going to take a guess that you never mention the price, and that's why people go to the payment page, to find this out.

I'd be more concerned as to why 2/3 drop out of the free lessons. If price isn't holding them back, why do so many disappear? You need to make these so compelling that most people at least get through the sequence until they have to pay.

Have you tested a $1 trial for X days that automatically rolls into the full price subscription rather than offering 3 free lessons and hoping they'll join later?

Yeah, those are good points. Why are people not finishing the first lesson? Make sure the lesson is engaging and interesting enough that they'd want to continue...and not only that, leaves them off with wanting to hear more. That last part will help segue them into the paying lessons.

Also, as a side point: there's something to be said about pricing memberships below $10 ($9.99). It appears more affordable and makes less of a dent in their pocket, even though it's just a few dollars less than what you're charging now. It's all in the mind.

Thanks for the replies. The funny thing is that I do clearly display the price first. This is what the subscription page looks like:

Not very polite to bump your threads... Imagine everyone bumping his/her own thread constantly....

Could it be that learning Spanish is just not that critical to those that want to travel?

When I went to Cabo San Lucas I had no trouble getting around as people everywhere seemed to understand at least some English. I just don't have the time or inclination to learn a foreign language just to be able to travel a little. Maybe others feel the same way?

        This is a good point.

To the OP here is something to possibly consider : I think you need to target people in Cities that are predominately having an influx of Spanish speaking citizens.

For example , I live in San Antonio and for the Caucasian population it almost seems a necessity to learn some Spanish and be familiar with it.

You might consider who you are targeting

Let me add some technical matters here... Is your payment page SSL secured? Has it padlocked or encrypted under https? The reason for this is because some buyers are too careful with their personal information let alone credit card numbers so if they feel secured opening their wallet, it may add stats for successful payment (?). If they feel they aren't secured they will postpone the purchase and leave the page... along with it the end of their urge to buy.

Seems normal. Selling subscription products/services is tough as compared to selling one-time payment products/services. You have to bring in loads of targeted traffic. It is encouraging that you've received payments; no matter how many. Try Facebook and Bing ads to scale it up.
Improve conversions of your Subscription Page and Payment Page. Keep the Payment page simple. Don't collect unnecessary details on the payment page. Their shipment and billing addresses (if it is totally an online business) is of no use.

Yeah... out of 404 people who starts the lesson, only 2 people pay. That's a conversion rate of (according to my calculator)... 0.04%. That's about one half of 1%.

I'm not sure if that's so bad when you consider that your payment plan is subscription based. Which means automatic backend sales without you lifting a finger. Imagine how much more that ugly conversion rate increases the longer someone stays in your program.

Question... do you do lead generation, or do people just come to your page, and then does a lesson?
