Using Google Keyword Tool

Hello,

I am in the process of getting my niche fine tuned into a miro-niche and had a question in regards to Googles Keyword Tool if you have ever used it.

I was once told that when first starting out, you want to find a keyword that has a search per month of about 1k-3k to be effective.

If you find a keyword that has higher than that and very low competition (based off a google search on websites/blogs being used), is this a keyword/niche I should really look into?

Please let me know if you need clarification.

Thanks,

yeh i would def look into a keyword with lower searches as long as the competition is low. I sometimes target keywords as low as a couple of hundred searches.

Thanks! But I am a little confused. If google keyword tool is telling you that "xyz" keyword is being searched 10,000 timed per month, but the amount of websites/blogs is like 3,500, why wouldnt that be a great find?

      Thanks,

What do you intend to do with this keyword you have found?

This is the crucial question you should ask.

If it is for product creation, you should not just look at the search volume and competition level, but the profitability.

If it is for article writing, then there is no need to read too much into it, simply write a few articles and test them out to see if they get enough traffic for your product.

As for profitability, you may want to look at the niche or "micro niche" and see if there are competing products in the market. A good gauge is to go to Google and run the search and see if you can find advertisers promoting a similar product. If there is, it is quick litmus test that there may be buyers in the market.

If the monthly search is 10,000 and there are only 3500 competing sites, yes, you do have a keyword that is really easy picking.

However, it still does not answer the question of profitability.

    Hi there,

If your numbers are right, I can say you've found a great niche keyword. I can guarantee you if there's one like that a lot of people will be envying you as we speak. Now, the question is, is the keyword in a niche that people are willing to buy a product if you have on or is it one they only seek quick info?

If people are willing to buy stuff within that niche then go straight for the kill and make the product or promote other peoples' products (for commission per sale) otherwise, you may consider Adsense or find a way to convince unwilling (or open-minded) buyers to buy whatever you have for sale. Either way, I think you found something good...

      Hi,

In addition to above, if you want to have some rough idea about profitability of your niche, you can check the average cost per click for each suggested keyword in Google Keyword Tool.

If many keywords have reasonably high cost-per-click, it indicates the niche quite profitable as many people competing to get high ranking in google for that niche.

      Hope this will help.

      Cheers..
