Odesk Elance Upwork Question

Hi everyone

I have been a successful member of Odesk Elance Upwork for several years now and have noticed that it's become very difficult lately to get many applicants to jobs ads.
Is there an alternative website that you know of?

Thanks
Mark

Depends on the type of job and what you need, IMO. But there are tons of freelance sites out there, try google or the search function here.

  • The reason is more and more job applicants who are good realize it's a much better proposition for them to post what they do on sites like PPH and let employers approach them then they have to waste time they are not paid for to bid and interview since most loose in the bidding process and they are not compensated for that!

You can try with Fiverr. I research and found a lot of them make more than $100/ day.

If you are advertising on freelance sites and no one wants the jobs you are advertising - it's the job or the pay that is the problem.

Let me go out on a limb here - I realize it's a stretch but you are on a forum owned by

        https://www.freelancer.com/

You are on a forum at the moment that has a section where you can advertise to hire workers or can advertise to get jobs.

freelancer tend to be worse than upwork, they putting too much restriction on the advertiser ( can't speak for the freelancer ) but they tied my hand bad enough to leave them.

Have you tried post your service in classified ad section or warrior for hire here at Warrior forum ?

It really depends on which type of work you are trying to sell.

Fiverr is great for gigs you can do fast, such as simple web design (ecovers work great), short videos, voice overs, etc.

Freelancer is great for writers and technical stuff as well, you can get good coders there for a decent price. You also get loads of bids when your project goes live, definitely a lot to choose from (to a point where it can be hard to choose, ah!).

I haven't used UpWork a lot but it always seemed to me that it was more for low-ballers...

I used Elance for a long time to get writing gigs. Haven't used it in a while (and they're switching to UpWork).

    Just my experience.

    Cheers
    Dan

Thanks for all your interesting responses.
All three of these names are now the same I think.[amalgamated]
A few years ago I would get swamped with replies and now almost nothing so i'm thinking it's the old supply/demand ratio problem at work and was looking for an alternative.
The majority of the workers I found there were time wasters but there were some really good workers there too.

      Mark,
oDesk renamed to Upwork and then Elance merged with Upwork! This is totally stupid! Owners want to earn extra $$ but they have not taken care of Freelancers at all

Regarding your thread, This is because they have started CONNECTS system on Upwork that's why you get few applications.
If you change your category to ADMIN SUPPORT, you will receive 100+ applications in an hour for sure

Try out freelancer.com . One of my friend is running a very successful business solely based on upwork ( website design category) , so it depends of the niche you are working on .

    Fiverr is another great alternative.

I've used UpWork a few days ago.

I'm still getting a decent number of people to apply. The bids all over the place, from $200 to $2000, the quality is also all over the place but there are enough people from whom to choose. I guess it also comes down to what you are looking for. There are many designers there.

    PS.

60 Connects for 1 month which means you can apply for 30 jobs only in a month. So you have to think thrice whether to apply for any job or not..
I know this because I am working their as a Virtual Assistant

When I have posted a job on ODesk/Upwork I have also searched for freelancer and sent them a personlized invite.
So if you're a little more proactive you should have no problem getting applicants.

Why do you need to get many applicant? In my view, you need to get the perfect applicant. The Upwork reduce the job application quota. When the Upwork was Odesk, one general freelancer would get 60 application quota. Now it convert as a connect system. One job application will charged minimum 2 connects, some job category may need 5 connects. So now the Freelancer do not apply for all job. They apply only for the job which will be perfect for him. Thanks

They merged Elance and Odesk but they never tried to bring something better.upwork is full of errors and stuck most of times. Also, their new standards are making things hard.
