Steps to take before launching an ebook?

Hey guys, for the last couple of months I've been working on an ebook of mine. It's almost finished and I have a few things left to finish, I'd figured I ask here for some help and maybe even get some tips and tricks in the process.

Alright, so my questions are;

How do I sell a product on my website?
I've created a website for my product, I want to be able to sell it directly from my website. What's the easiest way of doing this? I want to use my PayPal to receive the payments but not really sure how to connect everything together.

Do I need to take any safety precautions?
Because people will be typing the credit card info on my site I have to have some kind of security. Are there any easy plugins or similar for wordpress?

Is it possible to have an account created when someone purchases my product?
When people purchase my product they will get access to a private forum where they will be able to engage with me and other members. This forum will be hosted on a subdomain, so they won't be purchasing the product on the same domain.

Should I wait before I put my product on clickbank?
Obviously I want to sell as much as possible by myself, is it wise to wait til I can no longer get any more significant sales before registering the product on clickbank?

What kind of comission should I give?
I was thinking of 30%, is it too much, too little?

That's all I can think of right now but I'm sure I will come up with more questions soon enough.

I appreciate all the help I can get, cheers!

    Hey there Mike,

    Here's my take on this:

How do I sell a product on my website?
Set up a sales page yourself or outsource this if you are not technical (you can also look for drag and drop plugins like optimize press). You'll need to write copy for this. Have a look at top-selling products in your niche and study their sales pages, it will help you a lot.

Do I need to take any safety precautions?
I wouldn't worry about this for this, get a few sales under your belt first.

Is it possible to have an account created when someone purchases my product?
Not sure on this, but you integrate them automatically into your auto responder by linking Paypal and your auto responder service. Maybe a more "techie" Warrior can help you with this...

Should I wait before I put my product on clickbank?
Depends on your strategy. I normally don't list my product on CB at all...

What kind of commission should I give?
Think of it this way: someone else is doing all the hard work for you and building YOUR buyers list. Wouldn't it make sense to offer them more than 30%? If possible have your front offer at 100% and 75% on upsell and one time offers. Would you promote a product that offers 30% commission?

Good luck. Let us know how it goes...

    Cheers
    Dan

Hey man, thanks for the answers!

As for the first question, I've already set up my website. I'm curious how I can make a buy button which will take them to a page where they can purchase my ebook via paypal, like a shopping cart but much simpler, know what I mean?

Similar to the WSOs, you just press the button and get redirected to paypal.

    Hi Mike,

Don't overthink the process...keep it simple for now and just get started. As far as CB commission, 50 - 75% is the norm....but if you can get good conversions on your own, perhaps CB isn't a good fit for your ebook?

    Just my thoughts.

    Best Regards,
    Nancy

I would also focus on content marketing, if I were you

Create lots of useful niche-targeted blog posts that deal with the issues your product solves

Get a VA to find and filter niche-specific blogs that take guest posts

Once your VA contacts them, close the deals and get your guest posts published

Not only do you get an SEO benefit, you also get direct TARGETED traffic

Of course, your link must go to a content page that QUALIFIES your traffic. Don't dump these visitors on your landing page.

Hi, I'm on the same boat as you but I run an e commerce site which is good if you have multiple products to sell. In your case, a simple Paypal button will do. Get a Paypal button from Paypal, you can find an easy to follow on-screen instructions there on how to do it (as shown in the Video provided by Boris Qs)... SAFETY: technically, you don't really need any kinds of safety measures like SSL in your site as you will be using Paypal and Paypal provides a very secure transaction... ACCOUNT CREATION: I would categorize that separately and invite people to join the forum not necessarily a buyer of my product, this helps to create noise in the market and attracts prospects. People are usually happy with the simple way of just click-pay-and-go without any account created but it's all your personal choice really... ON CLICKBANK. In my opinion, it's better to make use of every high profile channels/distribution system available like Amazon or Clickbank, don't just rely on your website specially if you haven't got a lot traffic yet nor a huge list. The power of their affiliates can be a big help in marketing your product and creating a noise in the worldwideweb... I've spent years selling on eBay until I became a powerseller before I jumped into e-commerce business and took it with me a list of thousands of my eBay customers which is yet to be mobilized but I've already been making quite a few sales everyday through present upsells, queries and organic traffic.
    Goodluck on your business success!

That's a great idea, never thought of writing articles about my product and getting these featured on different blogs. Sounds like a pretty obvious step when I read it out loud lol. I will add this on my to-do list!

As for the content page, what do you mean? Why isn't the landing page enough?

Thank you for taking the time to help me out, appreciate it!

Good to hear I don't need to increase my security, I was worried about that.

I also think Clickbank might be good for me since I don't really have an email list for IM related stuff. I think I will try my best to promote my product and see where it takes me, when I cannot no longer generate consistent sales I will list on Clickbank.

I will also be reaching out to bloggers and maybe giving them a free copy of it in exchange of a review.

Different people click on a link for a wide variety of reasons

They want to KNOW more about a subject

They LIKE a particular class of solutions

They are looking to TRUST your solution

They are ready to BUY your solution

Your content page FILTERS people based on where they are and pushes them to the BUY stage.

Otherwise, a lot of your traffic won't convert

I found this out the HARD way.

Mike, two things I might add:
    1. You can't have an account for someone created just because they've bought one of your products (unless you use a Membership plugin), but what I would do is include a link to the private forum on the download page they arrive at after they have purchased. So, for example customer > sales page, buy button > paypal purchase screen, purchase > download page with link to forum (and your instruction to tell them to visit the forum to engage with you, etc). Once at the forum (I'm assuming you have or are working on setting up the forum on the subdoman), they can create their account.

    2. As dsilvestre wrote above, you can automatically add buyers to your email list - and I would highly recommend doing that. You'll have a list of buyers and you'll be able to email, engage, and market other things to them! I use aWeber. When someone purchases through paypal, the purchaser is automatically added to one of my lists. In aWeber, the process for doing that is: https://help.aweber.com/hc/en-us/art...l-With-AWeber- Probably similar to most popular email services, whatever you use.

    Hope that helps. Good luck!
