Help with affiliate sales. Getting depressed.

Hi guys so I am getting into internet marketing. I do not want to rely on adsense for an income. How do you guys figure out how hard it will be to rank for a niche. I think I have found one but I am concered about if it will be profitable. I see old ugly sites. about 3 for the niche. horrible and a simple wordpress install with a responsive design would do wonders.

My questions how do you know what the profitable search terms are.

how do you test how hard it is to rank for a keyword.

Any advice on figuring out the niche.

Use Google Keyword planner to look at the CPC rates of the keywords you're thinking of targeting.

That's how you determine how profitable the terms are

As for difficulty ranking, just load the kws into Google and see how many competing pages there are.

Another dead giveaway is if the top results are INTERNAL pages instead of home/index pages.

knowing what others dont know, gives you an edge- well i think you need a good basket of potential keywords to drill down on.
Let's say you've decided to build an affiliate site offering men's health product reviews. Regardless of how much you know about health product for men, it's challenging, if not impossible, to know ahead of time what keywords are going to be profitable for you. so wisdom demands you do keyword research
will help you identify a wide range of potential keyword opportunities including less obvious terms that could potentially drive traffic and sales. i once use wordstream.com/keywords, you can as well give it a try.

Look for long tail keywords with low competition. Everyone is trying to place for loans when almost nobody is doing seo for 'reverse mortgage plano texas'.

Most will agree building a targeted email list be the best way to get into affiliate marketing, And there are so many resources that exist today that will make things a lot easier to do this.

Industry standard would equate one lead to a dollar per month they are on your list
    example:
    -100 subscribers $100 per month
-1000 subs. $1000 per month. And so on.

This does vary depending on a few factors but it has stood the test, even if you are new to the
    industry.

    Few things to get started:
you can use something like leadpages.com (create high converting squeeze pages)
aweber or getresponse (Autoresponder and database storage)
find a product on sites like clickbank or jvzoo (affiliate product marketplace)
    Udimi.com (buy some targeted traffic)
clickmagick.com (track everything in one place)
    Scale if profitable

    Rinse and Repeat

Focus on listbuilding and delivering value.
Simple business model that works and will continue to.

You will fail. If, that is, your marketing plan relies entirely on SEO. 10 or 15 years ago, I would have commended you, being a newbie, for having exactly the right idea and deciding to take action. Nowadays? I hope I can put you off the idea, or else you'll likely blow your money, waste your time, grow to hate IM, take off and never look back.

Consider, instead, socials. A preliminary game plan would be this:

    1. Examine socials: FB, Twitter, G+, Pinterest, etc.
    2. Is there interest in your market?
    3. Big page followings?
    4. High engagement?
    5. If so, which type of site would work best?
    6. You need an angle. A USP. Something that makes your site desirable above the competition.
    7. Examine the competition. Use their good ideas. Come up with your own.
    8. Develop the site.
    9. Develop social platforms (pages, communities, etc).
    10. Grow social traffic.

There's a lot more to it than that, but if you use the above as a jumping off point, you won't go wrong.

    Best of luck!

    Cheers - Tom

My questions how do you know what the profitable search terms are.

Follow the strategy outlined by Tom Addams ( typing the main keyword on Google.com and checking if there are any Adsense ads on the site will also tell you if the niche is profitable or not) If there are Adsense ads then it is a profitable search term.

how do you test how hard it is to rank for a keyword.

Why Rely on Google when you can build traffic to your site yourself. The time needed to follow all those strategies to rank your site is the probably the same needed driving traffic to your site. And doing it yourself is much more sustainable than that of google because you do not know which new adjustment or animal they will soon introduce.

By building traffic to your site will also force Google with time will rank your site since they will end up seeing that many find your site valuable.( they can see all that)

Any advice on figuring out the niche.

Figuring out the niche is finding the forums associated with the niche and participating there you will start finding their needs their struggle and so on. Facebook Groups, Google hangout. basically hang out where they are hanging out.

Always choose a long phrase keywords which have low competition. Because you can easily rank for those
