Get a job at first, and when you have enough money - invest in your business.

Nobody is against getting a job. Entrepreneurs struggle and work hard to build a restriction-free lifestyle for themselves - on daily basis. That's the reason why majority of people leave entrepreneurship. They settle for a local job which at least gives them the consistent income they are looking for.

If you have tasted entrepreneurship, you should already know that it is rather easy to work in a real world company rather than building your own business.

Building your own business + having a part-time job = perfect combination. If I wouldn't have had my clients in 2004, I would not have been able to buy that hosting + domain package in the first place. Now, I own dozens which more or less give me an affirmation that all the hard work I've done in the past 6 years has paid off (started working on my very first website in 2009).

For most people, a job is not bad at all as it is this what is normal with the society. Normal is going to work everyday and retire at the age of 65.
Abnormal is the life of a person with millions, doesn't have to work a day in his life, can buy anything he wants and retire few decades early.

Here are some of the vital reasons: JOB

1. You will NEVER get rich. you can never buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini or a big rest house in the beach at such a young age. With work, you are exchanging time (or your life) with money. You have only 24 hours a day and it is even impossible to have all these 24 hours paid, normally only 12 hours max that you can exchange with money so a monthly income in the figure of millions is impossible. Time indeed has no leverage.
2. You have no absolute freedom. You must spend 8 or more hours of your time 5 days a week at work. Your only consolation is the 2 days of recharging - saturday and sunday and some holidays that's why TGIF exists.
3. Time and money is limited. It can give you an income to do things ONLY on your free time which is usually dictated by your work. You're not free to use your time whenever and wherever you want.

BUSINESS:
1. Money is unlimited. With a successful business, you can generate tens or hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars in a month. Contrary to few hours of exchange, a business has magnitude and scale, you can earn a massive income in just 24 hours.
2. You are free to use your time whenever and wherever you want. You have no boss or organization that dictates when you are free.
3. You can wake up, eat or sleep anytime you want. Your business is a surrogate of your working time.
4. You don't need to endure horrible traffic, early wake up time and dirty company politics.

Our life span is limited while risking death along the way. We're extremely lucky if we can outlive the century. Imagine if you've spent half of your life span working and the only time you'll enjoy total freedom is when you retire at the age of 65 or so... how uninspiring!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting a job. You have to pay the bills. I have a job and it enables me to not only pay my everyday bills but gives me some money to invest in my own business.
Working at a job is OK for just living but I personally (and I know many others here) want more and the only way to get that is to have your own business. I want to get a life....
My goal is to first of all replace my income so I can 'retire' from the job and put 100% effort into my business whilst still being able to pay my way.
Internet Marketing isn't for everyone as it takes a lot of work and patience as it takes time to build your online income, but the results in the end are what keeps us all going.

Job is not bad ... however , it does cost you financial freedom , time freedom and your performance evaluation depends on how your boss thinks you are doing ... Entrepreneurship is not easy .. there are lots of trail & error, testing , scaling up and decision makings involved... But at the end of the day , if it all clicks , the fruit is really sweet ...

There's nothing wrong with a job. Hell, I have one that I work 50-60 hours a week, every week. Then I run a website, where I outsource 95% of the work. I've always said I'll never leave my job until I have at least 2 years of earnings in the bank and a paid off house. Just in case s*** hits the fan. Cause if s*** hits the fan, I can still show up to work Monday and make a few hundred dollars per day in a worse case scenario. And I'll have something fun to do to supplement the income 20 years from now if I hang around and retire.

The problem is that most people who want to work online are chasing a pipe dream where they can just set up a website and people will hand them money hand over fist for little or no work. These types of people won't be highly successful working in a "normal" career either. So, kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Those that "get it" and want to start a business, can be highly successful. But you have to have the desire in you to do the work, and the mental ability to make it happen.

The best advice I can give anyone with a job that's considering starting an online business is to work their job until they can, at a minimum, live comfortably for a couple years if their income were to abruptly stop for any reason.

I have been working in the same company for 15 years and quit due to bias managements...suddenly change etc..well office politics as usual...next I also want to chase my dream..sometimes think back.....we live only once..why don't want to try earning yourself instead ? we never know

That is a great question. Thanks for asking. You can actually make money finding a job to work for someone else or you can become your own boss. It is not a matter of what is better approach. The better approach is how YOU feel better. If you do not want to complicate your life it is better to get a job and work everyday until you get your monthly check.

On the other hand, if you like taking risks, you can choose to become an entrepreneur. It is more difficult at the beginning, but if you finally make it, the advantages are tremendous bigger comparing to working for someone else. The best advantage is that you own your time (IF YOU DO THINGS RIGHT, otherwise you will end up working for yourself and will have LESS free time than working for someone else). The good news is that you can find a mentor and learn a lot from him -if you find the right one-.

Another great advantage being an entrepreneur is you can use the leverage power: the same effort you do at the beginning (creating an asset for example) can be used time and time again to multiply your profits; that cannot be done working for someone else because you do your job and you are paid for it month after month, at the end you are working for money and you are selling your time.

If one have no enough money to make business, then one can do job. When he will be able to invest some money in any business, he should come to the business. Business is the biggest job in the whole world. One can make more profit from the business than job.

Most people on this forum who denigrate working real world jobs are doing it to get you to buy something from them. It's done in almost every WSO and it is done often in other sections by people trying to sell you whatever is in their signature or trying to get people to believe they are making money they are not. Almost everything they say in support of their position is nonsense, some of which has been said in this thread.

For instance, the idea that no one gets rich working a job. Plenty of people get rich working jobs. Far more people get rich working jobs than get rich doing their own IM business. I personally know hundreds of multi-millionaires in both the tech and finance industries all working jobs for other people. And I'm talking about real life people I know in my city, not people online who can make up whatever they want about themselves. There are millions of people employed by companies that pay incredibly well and their career path shoots them into the upper class in short order. The primary way that people who are not born into money get rich is by working for other people.

The idea that a job means you are struggling paycheck to paycheck. I haven't worked for someone else since 2005 but that last job I had, I made $1.3 million in 7 years, not counting stock options and benefits. Thousands of other people working at the same company had similar salaries. While that's not getting rich, spread out over 7 years, it's certainly not struggling either. My friends who are still working at that company are all individually worth over $100 million now.

And there are many jobs in many companies paying high salaries and offering incredible benefits on top of that. If you're working minimum wage and don't want to be, do something about it. I started below minimum wage and I put myself through school, got good grades while working 50 hours a week, made sure I knew my knew my field of study inside out, and got a good job at a top company in my field. You can make great money working a job for someone else's company.

The idea that working a job means having less freedom. For the majority of people this is the opposite of reality. How free do you feel when you desperately need healthcare but can't afford it because you are working for yourself and not making enough profit? How free do you feel when you get sick and can't work and have no paid time off and no income? How free do you feel chained to your computer all day while others are out enjoying themselves? How free do you feel not being able to take vacations or having to work while you are on vacation, while people with jobs get paid while they are away and don't have to worry about work. How free do you feel when you are wondering how you are going to pay the rent or mortgage or feed your kids because you don't have a steady income that you can depend on? How free do you feel when you have no retirement plan or any of the other benefits that typically come with a job? I could go on for a long time here, but the bottom line is that although there are exceptions, for most people, jobs provide more freedom than working for yourself.

The idea that having a job means doing something you hate. Lots of people love their jobs and would not ever want to give them up. And a lot more people, while they may not love their jobs, are content at their jobs. They have no problem with the the work they do and feel they are being fairly compensated for it. If someone hates their job, there are plenty of things that can be done about that without going into IM.

The idea that working a job means working longer hours than someone in IM. For most people this is also untrue. Most people in IM and most people working for themselves work longer hours than people working a normal 40 hour workweek.

I've repeatedly advised people on this forum to go get a real job since that is what works best for most people. For the majority of people, it provides more income, stability, benefits, freedom, work/life balance, health, and general happiness with life than working your own IM business ever will.

I've worked hard at jobs for other people, from below minimum wage to the last job I talked about. I started working a full-time job at 14 making $2 an hour while still going to high school.. I've also worked hard at my own business. I've chosen to work for myself for the last 10 years (only the last 4 years have I been in IM), but I hate when I see people on this forum spell out J-O-B like it is a dirty word and denigrate working for someone else. This is a disservice to all the people who come here looking for answers about their financial problems.

You're like most people here who don't think a job is really all that bad. I think most people here are not opposed to working, maybe you're confusing warriors with the another crowd... A lot of people on here have full time jobs.


Anyway, some jobs are good, others are awful. The truth is that for most people the only reason they keep their job is money. Other people feel that there is more to life then money and therefore they don't see the true value in most jobs. And there are people who literally get sick working their jobs. There also are people who wake up in the morning hoping to have an accident so they won't make it to their job...


Other people love their jobs and would to it even if they didn't get paid.

It's not and that's why the majority of the people here have or will have one in the end.

Only a small percentage will make a business or full time occupation of IM.

Sadly these are the facts.

I think there's a little confusion over the subject because we're all strangers to each other and most of the younger members assume that the IM millionaires hit it big right off the bat. So when they see someone like me say that I'll never, ever have a job again, they see it as advice not to work from others. Nothing could be further from the truth.

When I turned 15 (the min. legal working age in Florida), I literally had a job lined up to start on my birthday. And for the next 20 years of my life, I always worked somewhere regardless of if I was in college or doing my own thing....and I didn't become 100% self-employed until I had two full time incomes. Even then, I held out an extra six months.

Jobs are where you learn so many important skills about dealing with people, running a business, handling employees, etc....and there is absolutely no substitute for on-the-job experience. We discussed college here recently as well and although the knowledge from a degree is certainly power, it doesn't mean a thing in the actual workforce once you're hired. Managers want to see confidence, great people skills, the ability to perform under pressure, etc...and the only way you can learn that is by working as a part of a team and learning to follow. Every great leader followed before he led.

There is absolutely, positively nothing wrong with getting a job and earning a living while pursuing your dreams on the side. Work is noble, it's what brought us into the 21st century, and there is simply no replacing some good old-fashioned sweat equity. And I'll tell you a little secret as well....if you can't hold a job because your boss is/was a total jerk, then you're going to fail in any form of online marketing as well because you don't know how to appeal to others.

So my advice...get a job...and then get another one. Work your butt off, learn what it takes to advance, and then use those skills to become an entrepreneur. That's the ONLY way you have a chance at all of becoming successful.

You're assuming that the average person has a job that adequately supports his or her lifestyle. The average job doesn't -- even if the person is educated. There are lots of people here who have regular jobs and seek to supplement their income via the internet. If you already have a job that allows you to buy the things you want, why are you here?

The only people here I've seen having a negative view about a job are newbies or gambler types.

Most of us who make our living online know how hard this is and generally recommend that others get a job or keep the job they currently have.

It's just stupid to give up steady income from a job unless your online earnings match or exceed it, and even then you might want to keep it for awhile, especially if you have kids.

I think most people get tired of doing the same routine week in and week out. It is only natural to look for other ways to supplement your monthly income as well and I know that was a big part of the appeal of internet marketing for me. I don't really mind working myself but it would be nice to start making a few extra bucks on the side to save towards a new car or a nice vacation with my family you know. It often takes a while until you can build up a big following online from search engines and social media with your blog but it is all really about never giving up on it

I used to work a 9-5. then i decided i wanted to do something i loved doing for a living.

having a job can be a back up plan, but to a point that you need to move away your comfort zone from your job and move forward to put 100% of your energy to something you really enjoy it, for me, that's internet marketing business.

Business and Job is all about FREEDOM and MONEY. Job is easier to get into than business but business, if successful, is far far better in the long run. HOWEVER, many jobs are camouflaged as business e.g. coffee shop, hot dog van, ice cream van, news stand, high street stalls, etc. - these types of businesses have no leverage. They have very small scale and magnitude, you can only able to sell maybe few hundreds a day and the cost per sale is very small and to make it worst, it requires you to do the job all day which could be worse than a normal 9-5 job.

The IDEAL business is something that serves as a surrogate of your working time and it MUST have big Scale or Magnitude. It must have the power to sell or serve thousands of items a day without you doing most of the job (e.g. a man who developed a game apps have been getting thousands of sales a day in the app store)... it must be fully passive (automated) or partly passive (human resource).

Having said this, there are also 2 types of people - employee and entrepreneur. An ideal employee loves a job, his mindset has been tuned to working for a company until he retires. He has a definite plan of continuously increasing his intrinsic value to climb high up a career ladder until perhaps reaching the stage of being a CEO, president, VP or top any managerial position and retires with millions. An ideal entrepreneur loves a business and to plant a money tree, a surrogate business that gives him freedom and money to do and get whatever he wants, become a millionaire while young and enjoy life to the fullest. You may still be working at the moment as you have bills to pay but the real question is, who really do you think you are - an employee or an entrepreneur? Only you can answer it. :-)

"BTW Self-employment or freelancing can still be classed as "employee", you may not have an employer but you are an employee of yourself i.e. you are still trading your limited time for money and still putting much effort in the job.

I'm just going to give you my opinion on this. I think that most jobs just gives no money. The whole point of internet marketing is to receive money because of your time and dedication, while a regular 9-5 job is just showing up every day at the same place doing the same thing and it has no room for innovation. If i was working at McDonald's i couldn't say to my boss: "Hey what's up. I just made up a new recipe for a burger which everyone says tastes really good" He would just not hear me out, or if a miracle happened and he did hear me out i would make either no money or just a 5 % commision if i am really lucky. That's because there is always someone who has to be your boss in most jobs and that someone has complete authority over you, while in internet marketing you are the captain of your ship. You learn. You innovate, and rely on yourself instead of relying on other people. You also get a stronger character because of it, because sometimes (most times for me) thing get really hard, and when you get through that period you become stronger as a person. And conversely and you have the periods where you get really succesfull you have something to show for all the hard work you've put in. Basically what i am trying to say is that internet marketing, or independent bussines in general makes you rely on yourself and challenges you as a person, while regular jobs make you rely on yourself and keep you "safe" both financially and to an extent emotionally.

A job is a good thing to have. You have one. That's great!

Many people at this forum don't have jobs. Some can't work in traditional jobs, so they're here to find a way to work at home. Or, if they don't have a home, they're looking for work they can do on a laptop in their car, or wherever they can get wifi. Or, if they don't have a laptop, some work they can do online, using a computer at the public library.

Others have already built successful businesses, and they're at this forum to share insights and helpful advice.

I understand that the Warrior Forum can be confusing. A lot of sales letters say "make money while you sleep" or something like that. Though it's technically true, even those business models require a lot of work to set up, and many require a lot of work to keep going.

Everyone would like to make money without working. That's why people buy lottery tickets.

Don't be fooled into thinking that most people at the Warrior Forum are allergic to work or downright lazy.

They're looking for a better life. They're looking for a way to earn more money, in a way that doesn't simply require more hours.

If you're earning $10 an hour at a job, the only way to earn more each week is to work more hours or get a raise. At some point, you'll run out of hours you can work, and a ceiling on your per-hour income.

If you're lucky, you don't hit that ceiling until you're in upper management and you're earning a good living in a secure job.

For everyone else, a home-based business is a good way to supplement what they earn at their jobs, if they're lucky enough to have a job.

You're at the Warrior Forum for a reason. Maybe it's just to clear up a misunderstanding about our willingness to work.

Or maybe you're looking for something more in your life, too.

If so, I hope you'll browse others' posts and discover a way to start your own business - online or offline - and find greater income security through self-employment.

That doesn't mean giving up your job. Clearly, you find satisfaction and security in that, and I hope your icon is right and you're "lovin' it."

Unless they interfere with your ability to earn what you're worth.

That's the problem... It usually does.

If you get the right job you'll find you learn a lot more about business then you can working for yourself, and faster.
