Learning Objectives of Internet Adverting Campaigns

I'm getting back into buying PPC campaigns again after having a word with a mentor.
The biggest lesson is that "learning is the key objective of advertising." (Well, it's the key objective of anything worth having.)

That said, I'm posting a question here for quick feedback (as there would be delay in hearing back from him).

Is there a drawback of confusion when you try to learn more than one key fact about your advertising (whether you target the right market segments, whether my market segment cares about my offer, etc.)? Or do you feel like there's an efficiency advantage?

Please discuss. I hope I have provided enough context without overwhelming you.

You should probably stick to one key fact at a time. It`s not that it will be too confusing for you, I`m sure you`re a smart man, it`s more about getting a grip on an element before moving forward and not missing important details.

Thanks for your input. I just don't have enough successful experience that I can count on, which is why I'm asking the question here.
