One of those day......HELP!

Why is it when I import a video from my hard drive i.e. my videos, into WMM it is not transfering the whole file.

A 32 sec vid, once it is in wmm it is only 19 sec!
Never had a problem before ?

thnx

    Hey MobileEyeGuy,

I've never encountered this and I'm not sure if this even comes close to the scope of your problem....but try this:
    • Open Windows Movie Maker.
    • Select your file
    • Select import into collection
    • Deselect > create clips for video files

I assume you're pretty certain that you're importing videos and not stills right? That's an altogether different fix.

Also, what version of WMM are you using?

Hey I had just another thought or two:

Are you bringing them in from another editor? If so which one, and what's the filetype?
Is the video shortened in length but all the content is still intact or is the video actually being truncated?
If all content is still there, then do you notice if your audio is sped up or normal?

I've had a similar problem. During my rendering, it stopped, said it was finished and when I went to play it, it cut part of the end off...it's happened more than once for me.

I originally took the VOB files from a DVD, converted them to avi or wmv to import to WMM and for some reason the conversion process had a small glitch at a certain point in the clip and would cause WMM to stop rendering.

My solution was to convert the VOB files using a different program. So, if you are converting files, try using a different converting software...look around and you can find some free ones.

The problem may be that you need a piece of software NOT written by Micro$oft.

My personal recommendation is Movie Edit Pro. GREAT piece of software. I used to use adobe premiere and had nothing but troubles with one thing then another. The usual fix was to throw adobe a bunch more cash.

Kinda got sick of it in the spring when I started using a digital camera that saves in mp4 format. Came across movie edit pro and haven't look back.

The interface is a bit different, but it does everything I want it too. Here's the kicker, it cost me less then $100!

    Nice.

    Best of luck.

Are you sure you don't split the video, and one more thing is this problem comes only in wmv and what about avi ?

      Hey Thanks for all reply's,

But what I do is record with a Flip, which is an AVI file, then when you plug it in to your PC, it trans. the file to WMM file, then i'll make a movie , but some times when Import the movie maker it just cuts the video short?

For todays project, I used my son's new laptop, it has the Vista version , i think they call it movie maker 6, it loaded the files down in full, but was still not as easy to deal with as WMM when it works right.

I'm doing more & more video marketing so I guess I need to invest in a video edit software.

Frank...you mentioned movie edit pro........any others!

      Thanks guy's

When you're referring to Flip, do you mean The Flip Mino?
If so, perhaps they have a forum, FAQ, or tech support that may be
        familiar with your issue.

Also, since it works on Vista WMM 6, is upgrading your system to Vista out of the question? I don't think you can successfully get WMM 6 to install on XP.

Hey Ben...I'm sure you'll get the WMM CutOff thingee fixed, and when you do, consider converting to "Flash" to put on your webpages.

Takes up much less room and...for "Sales" Videos.....one little feature I like is the "Can't Fast Forward" the Vid. So that viewers can't forward to the end to see what the "Close" is.

This wouldn't be important with a "Show" vid...but with a "Sales" vid, You GOT 'em. They MUST watch the whole enchilada.

          Now...here's how to convert to Flash and be able to place on your sites;

          Download and install the FREE Video to Flash Converter software at;

          www.dvdvideosoft.com/guides//dvd/free-SWF-FLV-video-converter-convert-video-to-SWF-FLV.htm

Then use a FTP program to upload the 4 files created by "Free Video to Flash converter" to the folder on your website where you'll be displaying the video.

Copy the html code created by the program and paste it on the webpage where you want the video to play.

I too am a Sony Vegas guy. The Sony Vegas Movie Studio software is less than $60 and very powerful.

If you go that rout let me know, I have some videos that can show you how to get up to speed editing in Vegas quickly.
