Looking for direction

Hi all,
I have been lurking in these forums for about a month now and all I have to say is wow, this is a stupendous forum! I learned more in some of the threads in here than on many ebooks I purchased in the past.

Now, I am not new to the internet, and Internet biz, I have been in an online bizz before and I am still in it, and upto now, I was more focusing on promiting it offline due to the type of service (high end luxury travels) in full page ads in my fav magazine. I was doing quite well last summer up until the fall, where I was matching my full time salary. But then, as the crisis started, the sales went south...

Fast forward to now, I was told last week at my job that as of Sept 1, I along 40% of others in my department, will have to look for another job. While I realize I may have to look for another job to at least initially continue to pay the mortgage and the bills, I have also been looking into finally learning to make $ online in order to build something that in 6 months time will free me from a J.O.B. I know it is very possible to make a great deal of $ online, and I know it is a matter of persistence and learning the rules of the making money online.

I have been reading the Warrior forum for over a month along other forums, and the overwhelming thought has been that there are so many ways to make $ that it can be mind numbing (affiliates, blogging, cpa, network marketing, e-commerce, ebay, etc...). After researching a bit into each of these vehicles, the one that really caught my attention has been CPA. I have been reading the threads in here and at times, I have felt a bit lost and clueless. I am wondering if there is any guide to CPAs for beginners? Is it wise to start right away with CPAs in order to maximise earnings as fast as possible?

I have to admit that I have been chasing all too long the quick fix by making $ fast, but I have learned the hard way that these are only pie in the sky illusions, so now, I am committed to learning the rules of the game from scratch as I'm in it for the long term. Having cleared that, what would be the best course of action to take in order to:
1) learn and get a solid foundation of knowledge in IM
2) while building an online bizz that will generate $3K-$5K per month by Dec 31, 2009?

I am extremely motivated and committed to making this happen as I am truly sick and tired of being a corporate slave and that I want to finally take control of my life and live my life on MY TERMS through a successful online business of my own.

I thank you all for reading my diatribe (sp?) and providing any constructive feedback and tips.

Ciao,

Payman.

I'm quickly reminded of the bad religion song no direction.

Just jump into it and get your hands dirty, that's your best bet.

Anyhow it appears that you already have a working model for success right under your nose with the offline -> online marketing. If travel is no longer working very well for you, perhaps you should consider other niches or markets that you could potentially be successful in?

You already have a lot more experience than most people do with offline -> online clearly, so why reinvent the wheel so to speak? It's all fine and dandy to dabble in other types of online ventures, but going from 0-5k as quickly as you want to is going to be an uphill battle.

You should play unto your strengths. Think about other high end products you might be able to promote in the same manner as you did with the high end luxury travel packages.

Or better yet, figure out a methodology for choosing such niches so that you can diversify your efforts so that you don't fall victim to losing all of your revenue in the event that one of them dries up.

Depending on how good you were at your prior offline -> online venture you might be able to do some consulting or write a course on how to effectively repeat that success with other niches.

IM is just like offline marketing. Don't get caught up in the terminology, it all boils down to the same strategies imo.

    Just my 2c

judging from what you say, you do know how to set up a website i presume. that is a big step forward. you also do know how to market offline and your products are high ticket items. i think your best bet would be to join cpa networks and infusing your offline marketing efforts together with online ones. this would get you some money first, spend some time testing online methods but i suggest learning how to outsource. Learn the ins and outs of this business but do not spend too much time perfecting it. Once you got your basics right, learn how to outsource.

The game is simple( but not easy):

    1)find a profitable niche
    2)find good keywords
    3) monetization methods( cpm, cpa, affiliate marketing/ pay per sale, your own products)
    4)traffic( free or paid ones)
    5) tweak your landing page/ sales page for better conversions
    6) take a step back and see how to automate the process or outsource it
    7) move on to a new niche

ALL the info you need is in the forum, use the search button but basically if you can do the above steps well, you should have no problems reaching your goal, i wish you success!

    AdInventive,
Thanks for the reply. You make some very good points and suggestions.
Indeed my plan is now to build multiple streams of income in my portfolio. I'm still in the high end travel biz despite not promoting it as heavily as I was. I'll resume promoting it again soon.

I also have in the back of my mind to write a book/ebook on a topic I know a great deal and which happens to be a great passion of mine. So that can certainly be a niche to further investigate online as well. However, I feel that it would be better to do that once I have freed myself from that dreadful J.O.B. So for now, my focus will entirely be on creating a stream that generates $5K in the next 6 months. I might start another thread with the title "The 6 Months Challenge: Quit your J.O.B. in 6 Months" where I'd be posting all the steps involved in achieving that goal.

Thanks again for your valuable feedback,

    Payman.

    Wesley, thanks for your feedback!
Well, I didn't create my own site, I was provided with a site by the company I have been promoting and I also got a few others sites for which I am paying about 27 bucks a month. So no I do not know how to set up a website. Or rather, I definitely need a refresher as I did create a couple of websites for my hobbies back in high school and university about 9 years ago.
Speaking of which, which programmes/courses would you suggest?
I keep on reading about WordPress as well SBI/Sitebuildit to building sites.

    Another question for the experts:
Between Wealthy Affiliates and the 30 Day Challenge, which one would you suggest to be the best foundation to learn the rules of IM?

well if you are not looking to spend much money when starting out, 30 day challenge would be the way to go. it definitely teaches you the foundations here, i saw a free wso called newbie university and it has been getting rave reviews, that is another place where you can start.

Wordpress is popular because they are easy to use and google loves them. I am not really an expert on building sites so i cannot give you quality advice, hope this helps.
