Selecting a Domain Name

Hi all,

Planning on buying and building my first webpage. Probably the sort of question that gets asked here all the time, but what sort of domain name works best? Does the domain name really matter if you're getting random hits? I'm buying a $1 one on Godaddy, so I have one shot unless I pay more.

Also, any good ideas for a name? It's a business writing webpage.

    Hi Nick,

    Use this criteria:

    - Descriptive
    - Easy to Spell
    - Easy to Remember
    - Catchy
    - Short
    - Captures the Tone of Your Service
    - Unique
    - .Com
    - Avoid Infringing Copyright and Trademarks
    - Captures the Brand
    - Avoid Hyphens
    - Avoid Unnecessary Words (the, and, cool, etc.)

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna buy one though google because it's $12 a year for hosting and everything. I did find a good domain name that wasn't taken because Godaddy suggested it to me. I'll just go ahead and steal it because I've used godaddy in the past and I didn't like their service.

Different marketers will tell you different things about Godaddy. From my personal experience, and when we're talking about domains used for typical IM projects, I have no complaints whatsoever about Godaddy. You can also easily find coupons so you can register domains for as low as 99 cents. Likewise, people will give you differing opinions on their hosting service. I like it, but, just like every host, you'll often read horror stories. Anyway - good luck. You're taking action and that's good!

Thanks yeah. I had a domain on Godaddy, but I was broke at the time and they overdrew my account and were very rude about it. So it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other than that I have no idea how their service is, but that was enough to turn me off of it. Plus they use that deceptive advertising on the main page with hidden fees. Google's flat rate is more expensive at the start, but more reasonable overall. Plus it's Google so I assume it's going to work out better for that reason. My only concern is that no one will be at customer support if something goes wrong.

Ok, You can buy the Domain Godaddy or, Namecheap. If you would like to use this site for business purpose, you should buy the .com domain. It is the best one for any business purpose.

What is the main keyword you want your site to rank for? Try to incorporate it into your domain name.

Domain name should be relevant to what you're selling, but for the most part you just have to drive targeted traffic to it.

If you're relying on people remembering your site name, don't do that. Just get them onto your email list, pitch them helpful emails, and then LEAD THEM back to your website. This is direct marketing, not hopeful, remembrance, or brand marketing.

for the domain, i only use Godaddy and very happy with it because their service is good but for domain only, not hosting.
for the Domain name, i recommend you to go to google and type your keyword (Ex: business writing ) the look at the ads and website listed there so you can get your domain ideal.
