Branding question... my name or a company (website)?

I've been receiving mixed messages about branding.

Should I brand my name (me) or a website related to my niche?

If the former, I think it would be easier for everyone to remember me. But in the latter I could sell my work one day as I am not the sole focus.

Advice?

First, congratulations on discovering the power of branding. That's a subject you don't hear much on a forum that supposedly focuses on marketing. Maybe that's another one of life's mysteries.

Actually, your name and your website should be consistent. It's not a matter of either Or. Donald Trump doesn't separate his name or brand from his real estate, golf courses or hotels. Warren Buffet has his brand stamped across all of his holdings, websites and even the charities he gives to. Same with Bill Gates or Sam Walton.

If you're thinking about an exit strategy, the answer should be obvious: company name. Makes acquisitions a lot easier!

Depends on the niche/circumstances (in my book).

If you are for example an artist or doctor then your name may be important.

If you are just selling other peoples stuff as an affiliate then I'd forget even worrying about branding by your name.

You should brand you... You are the person that people will be dealing with.

Even though you will have products and programs etc... at the end of the day people will remember you.

If you want to bounce ideas off me.. happy to help out. Just send me a message

You can do a combo. Make your name well known but have a company website/domain that is also branded.

There is absolutely no rules that say you cannot do both.

Like you say, the flexibility of having a branded company name can be very beneficial down the road.
