Hosting my main site and a niche site on the same server? good idea?

Hi,

I have different websites on different hosting providers.

Two of them are on hosting A : they are serious, one of them is my personal website and I'm proud of both of them.

A third one is on hosting B : it's a niche site, that makes me some money, but I don't want people to be able to associate it to my personal website and my other important site.

Having two hosting obviously cost me money and I'm thinking to merge everything.

So, if I share the same hosting provider AND the same server (i.e. same IP i guess), is there anyway people who know my sites on hosting A (the ones I'm proud of) could find my niche site (the one I dont want people to discover)

Thanks in advance!

Much appreciated!

Nicolas.

Are your sites on different domain names?

I have one hosting account and several domain names hosted there (as add-on domains). They have their own domains and I have never had a problem.

There are ways to find out, but someone would have to be looking very hard for it.

        Hi Jill,

I'm in a niche where several bloggers follow me and know about niche sites. I might even actually have a case study about niche sites... so people might be looking.
What I want to know is : moving my niche site to the same hosting that my awesome other site would make it easier to find the relationship between both?

        Thanks!

      Hi,

Thanks. Indeed, different hostings and different domain names (i.e. mynichesite.com and mysupersite.com)

The whois protection will help if you merge. But, as mentioned, if someone is really digging deep or decently knowledgeable, they'll find it.

Nicolas, The same rules that would prevent a private blog network from being discovered apply: Different hosting (or same hosting with different C-block IPs), different registrars, different Whois data, different on-site contact information, different Google Analytics accounts, no sharing of advertising accounts, don't use same affiliate codes, never link to each other, don't serve content from the same CDN account, don't store website content in the same cloud storage web address.

      Thanks everybody!!!
      It's pretty clear
I had actually forgotten that having same Adsense and Analytics account on both sites would anyway make it easy to find them...
