How can we market a comedy radio show?

My friend and I came up with this idea to do a humorous radio show based on what is currently viral on the internet. Our first show is here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4F...RXLSbtXn2gTjRA
Do you think this is marketable? How can we get more traffic? What can we do from a monetiziation standpoint? Any other critiques?

It took me 4 minutes and 38 seconds, but I'm a fan. Is your show marketable? Yes, and then some. Humorous, on point, topical, and not that I'm an expert DJ, but the delivery appears professional. I have only one major suggestion when it comes to the video itself: spice it up with graphics, animation, effects, and live-action, even if the live-action is stock footage (explosions and whatnot). Do that and you'll experience lower bounce rates and, without boring you too much, receive better ranking, engagement, and subscriptions.

To answer your question, and I could talk all day but I'll be brief: the idea you have, killer, to tap into viral trends, will mean you going to the source of those trends. Think of where the main trends happen: FB, G+, Twitter, Reddit, and so forth. You have 2 ways of doing it. Earning from your channel and/ or connecting to a website. Either option would work well in your case. What I suggest is take the above advice about videos and grow yourself some social platforms (FB pages, etc). You also need to look into video marketing (ranking, promoting, producing, etc., etc.).

Quick reply, but I hope it sparks some ideas. All the best!

      It was great. thanks.

I completely agree about adding some sort of graphics. We're trying to come up with a way to do that without adding any material that we don't own, otherwise youtube won't let us monetize.

We were considering just drawing ourselves and transitioning back and forth between whoever is talking. Kind of cheesy, but just trying to make it as easy as possible because we're going to be doing this 3 days a week

I'd be doing a podcast - free episodes - and sneak in your own sponsor commercials (affiliate products).

If I were to keep it on youtube, I'd slide in graphics related to what you are talking about that would lead to affiliate offers. Get a generic domain, link it to something like a link creation script, and start adding products.

I'd like to eventually podcast, although, unline YouTube, podcasting costs $. I'm gonna stick to the free platform for now and see how it goes.

        That's a great idea.

I'd order half a dozen gigs each off Fiverr - cartoon caricatures of you both, each one with a different emotion. But I'd use them sparingly or they'll get annoying.

Another idea - probably as well as the above - is to use stock image footage with commercial and modification rights. Dozens of sites available for this. And then you have places like CanStockPhoto.com for paid stock, but I'd look around for cheaper alternatives.

You'll also find plenty of places with stock video footage that you can use commercially.

One final thing (for now): ensure your thumb image is enticing. The current one will do you no favours, which is a shame given the great content.

Edit: Good suggestion above for researching more into podcasts, though I'm not a fan of wikihows.

I have noticed a trend of video taking over on Facebook make a page that goes along with your show and upload parts of the video to the Facebook page, you have to upload it and not use the youtube share link, it holds more weight if you do it that way. I got that tip directly from Facebook. You can put the link to your Youtube channel on your page.

    Funny show.
I would suggest a website eventually. As for video, maybe you can do something as simple as puppets, since it is pretty random after all.
    Great job!

I would go to the google keyword planner tool and identify which keywords people are searching for comedy radio shows. I would gather those keywords and drive traffic with google and bing ads. Another strategy would be to go to facebook and identify all the top comedy radio shows and I would do a precise interest ad targeting people who liked those radio shows with your radio show banner.

It might be a good chance to become a influencer on Youtube,

the first thing to attract traffic is to make the content good,

dont think about traffic at first.

you have great videos, people would know it, and then you need a little promotion.

Totally I think if it is current that could be a really good show - I have had a quick look and it would be great if you could speak to camera rather than showing the logo for the entire show and make it more of a vlog… similar to these Aussie Girls below:

    The Katering Show

This show is created and presented by Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney and it is a massive hit on YouTube. On average the shows have around 1 million views and it is fast becoming a cult classic.

While I used to work in radio and I understand it is a quick and affordable way to get a program off the ground, I think monetization-wise, having a visual show would be better as you can then have product placement, clothing, and even sponsored segments.

I am a visual personal and I think adding in more vision would be great and you can get more attention this way.

in Australia nightly panel type discussion invite guests and popular vloggers onto their show to have a chat and even discuss current events and this could be an additional avenue for promotion and monetization.

A daily wrap up in 5 short minutes is a very effective option and I know that if you could fill me in on all the latest news in 5 minutes or less each morning it would save me about 45 minutes trawling aimlessly through the news websites.

Great idea, I am keen to hear how you go.

That's really good. I would like to do that, but then the production time would increase by hours. Right now, I can pop out an episode within 1 hour. Mabe i can use puppets? haha
