Business with Alibaba.com, let me know how ?

I've heard that many people outsource products from Alibaba.com and do business with the product at their country but e-commerce or physical selling.

I wish to know something more about that business. If there is someone who have experience on it, please let me know.

It doesn't matter what country you are in, the process of importing is the same worldwide. There are small differences in the red tape between different countries, but freight companies and freight forwarders handle those for you.

Your original question referred to sourcing through Alibaba and that is where you need to be careful. johnmuck123 said he "found good & bad seller there" and "there are some Fake or, Spam people also," ( He obviously means Scam.)

This is why you should use safe sourcing sites where the verification process is done properly. Sorry but I don't publish details of those safe sites online because there is a lot more to safe sourcing than just going to safe sites.

For more helpful information and reasons why. see my thread: If your secret B2B portals are so safe why don't you share?

Just because someone has found one good supplier on Alibaba that is no reason why newbies should trust that site.

Depending on the products you want to import, there are different regulations. So, you should check with the authorities in your country before importing. Some products may be tax free, other may have more tax.

Basically you want to buy products at low price from Alibaba and re sell them for a profit. Nothing too complicated here. Create a local Facebook page to promote the products, and arrange for deliveries when you get orders.

Be careful on Alibaba. You might order 100 Playstation 4 consoles and get 100 of those reject gaming consoles that you find in Walgreens. Lol real talk.

You might have to test some suppliers out and lose some money before you find a legit one. And just because they have a "gold" rating by their name doesn't mean CRAP.

Quite right Randall. The scams continue even though Alibaba were supposed to clean up their act after admitting in late 2011 that 2236 Gold Suppliers had scammed buyers.

There are much safer places to look for suppliers. I have taught people in 36 countries how to safely source from China and other countries, but I would not recommend Alibaba.

Well. I have been using the Alibaba for a long time. It may be since 2009. I found both good & bad seller there. I found a good supplier, we are still good friend now. He came to my country & I also go to his house.

On the other hand, there are some Fake or, Spam people also. They always try to take money, after getting money, they will never contact with you.
So you need to be more & more careful before doing any online business. Thanks a lot

  • I got totally screwed there for about $1600 a number of years ago. It was my own fault though. The guy talked me into sending him money via Western Union.

They have a decent system there now to protect buyers. As long as you stick to their escrow system they have in place you are protected.

Unfortunately that is not the case.

Alibaba's old escrow system is now called Trade Protection. The name has been changed for legal reasons since the float on the NYSE. It should not be confused with their new Trade Assurance system. If anyone wants to know about Trade Assurance just ask and I will post an explanation.

Alibaba's Trade Protection scheme is full of loopholes. Few people bother reading the fine print, but I am one of the few that do. I can tell you that the fine print contains contradictions and is missing information that is very important to buyers.

The biggest problem is the time limit. If you are lucky enough to find a real manufacturer on Alibaba they may be willing to accept payment through Trade Protection, but remember to read Alibaba's fine print regarding the service. It has a short time limit for you to lodge a dispute and many suppliers are expert at procrastinating until that time limit runs out.

There are other problems, such as the risk of refusal of your claim if you sign for a parcel and it contains wood shavings, newspaper, or maybe an empty plastic casing instead of the phone you ordered.

i have tried to to exactly what OP means a few years ago.
I chose DHgate for buying stuff. A single piece of advice i can give you is this:
    ### Always order a sample first before you start stocking! ###
    ### and always check amount of reviews on the seller.. dont trust brand new sellers! ###
Many products there are sh*t worthless quality, if you don't want to hand out refunds to everybody please make sure the product you choose has some decent quality. And i can tell you.. quality is hard to find in China.

I have done this with multiple products..
    1. mobile phone chargers (on-the-go) when they first came out.. ofc this product is dead now as nearly every shop has those nowdays
    2. baby pacifiers that also measure the body temperature.. worked great but prices dropped quickly as many people started doing the same product
    3. colored steel kitchen knives.. bad investment.. hard to sell... dont try

Right now i am not focused on this way of making money as i have no time to sit around and be a trendwatcher.. the key with abroad products is to catch a hype before it arrives to your country and be the first one selling it. usually such things are in the 'gadget' dep.

DHGate has an even worse reputation than Alibaba if that is possible. Even on their own forum you will find countless complaints from people who have been scammed or are very unhappy with quality, service, etc.

They don't get as much publicity as Alibaba, good or bad, because Alibaba overwhelms Google searches, and almost all sourcing and importing "experts" recommend Alibaba.

Reviews can be bought. There is a big industry in selling fake reviews, particularly in China, so reviews are worthless. There are other ways to know who you can trust, and I have taught hundreds how to work it out.

I will soon post a thread dealing with DHGate, because I have received a number of emails recently from people needing help to save their money after they have ordered there. These are not my book users, because I recommend avoiding DHGate, just as I recommend avoiding Alibaba.

After exporting to China for years, I chose to import from China in order to get superior quality to what I was buying locally. It is not that hard to buy good quality in China if you know how to approach suppliers.
