Why Do People Use "Resources" On Sales Pages?

Hey everyone,

I've seen some sites out there that have used a page called "Resources" as a link directory, and then a bunch of site owners add their link on that page. It seems like a script that you can implement on pages...

You can see an example of what I mean at:
More Resources | Nicely Done Templates - Save Money & Time!

If you just go to the root domain, it is a sales page. Scroll to the bottom and you see the "Resources" page.

Now it is just a bunch of random outgoing links to other sites that aren't even related to the product he's selling.

Why would people do this? This isn't the only site I have seen using this "link directory" type deal on their sites.

Is there a point to it? And if there is a point, how can I get it on my site?

Most likely the site owner is using a network linking tool. This is a service where you agree to host the links on your site and in return, having your own link spread across other users' site running the same script. I would say it is pretty neat for backlinking.

Do you have a link to any of these services that offer that?

When you submit to link directory some require a back link so not to add them on your homepage people create a special page often called links.htm as well and post these reciprocal links there. Lots of site have these but some dont actually link to them there just a dumby page so the directory will accept there submission.
