A Few TeeSpring Questions

My kid was designing shirts for her school band on another site, and I told her- hey, why not just do that on TeeSpring and you could actually make a little bit of money for your efforts? With 100 band members and other 200 band member parents, it could be a sweet little niche for a kid to make some spending money on the side.

I've never messed with TeeSpring though so I wanted to get some opinions- how is the company in terms of payouts, fast shipping, processing orders, etc? I don't want to encourage my daughter to do this if she's going to have issues, so I figured that I'd ask the pros first.

Also, could she order a "proof" so she could wear it around school and get others interested? She's mainly going to push it through social media, but I figured that in-person is truly the way to build the hype over the t-shirts. Just wearing it to band practice one day could let her hit her target right off the bat....if she can her hands on the shirt before the promotion.

Nah, no proofs. They only print once the campaign "tips".

Oh man, that's really dumb. They should at least let people buy one at the high retail price.

That brings me to a different question though (and I've searched TeeSpring, their documentation stinks). Let's say she sets the goal at 5 shirts, which we already have basically sold. Her "per shirt" cost would be around $18.50 at low quantities....but what if she sold 100 of them? Would they keep it at the $18.50 break price or give her the bulk discount?

Teespring is a reliably campaign but they are working with time limited campaigns and they send products after the campaign ends. That means you can't get a "proof" till end of the campaign.

However you can do this, you create a campaign and order like 3 tees. Then your campaign ends and they send your products. I think it cost you about $40.

When you see the process and products then you can safely decide to give it a go.

    Sorry for my great english.

Thanks, that's a big help...we were just talking about doing that exact thing. Make the campaign 3 shirts total, buy all 3 myself, and then re-start the campaign again once the shirts arrive and my kids can wear em to school. I think that's the plan!

      Thanks everyone!

One caution for your daughter's sake. Make certain the school allows a student to run a for-profit sale based on a school activity (band).

That would not be allowed in the schools here - but I expect different schools/ different rules.

I didn't completely think that aspect out, but I'm hoping she'd be okay since the only thing she put on there was "CHS" (which could be a lot of schools). She didn't use any logos or anything, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask the band director.

Then again, she doesn't have to do it for profit...but I'm not sure if Teespring will print UNLESS she makes profit. This "good idea" is starting to feel complicated. =)

The campaign could tip with as few as 3 shirts so that should not be a problem. The real question is if this is the best method to go with. If you do not have an aversion to carrying a little inventory a regular printer may be a better/cheaper idea. I use this company to print some of my shirts for my business. www.designashirt.com
They have really good pricing on tshirts but if you want sweatshirts or other items you can find better pricing elsewhere. I also have a local screen printer I use that I get good pricing on. So for me unless you are trying to market this to a wide audience there are better formats than tspring.

    Hi,

I am curious about one thing: can one make more money with cafepress or teespring? I mean, which one is better?

      kk075,

If your daughter is under 13 she can't have a campaign.

13-18 requires parental permission (maybe a parent to transfer money to? not sure)

At any rate, her age may be a factor here - you would be wise to check on that first.

You could also purchase a tee from a campaign that is about to end and has already tipped. That would be cheaper than starting your own campaign and buying 3 shirts to make it tip.

But that would not get them their design to self promote by wearing it to school.

I think it would be a great little experience for your daughter!

I've ordered and sold a lot of Teespring products and in terms of product delivery and reliability they're very good.

Not many issues I can see other then people having sizing issues etc but all in all I would definitely go for it.

    Good luck

      Mateen,
      I didn't know you were a Warrior.

You guys here don't let the 3k a month fool you in his Sig. That was a slow month for him and I can
attest to the FACT that Mateen has cleared over 85K in one month with Teespring Thats solidly documented
( advice: put that in your Sig )

Well, quick update....we spent half the afternoon "tweaking" her shirt idea and it's already gone live at TeeSpring. I was going with the plan of just buying three shirts and closing it out, but someone bought a 4th shirt and my daughter already got a few calls and Facebook messages from other kids that want one.

So now I'm torn....do I end it, or let it run out the three full days? Because if it ends now, then we wouldn't restart for at least two weeks until the shirts arrive.

You guys are right though, this has been a great learning experience and it really excited me how she ran with it after I mentioned the possibility. Besides tweaking the writing/layout on the back of the shirt, it was 100% her and I am a very proud dad. She's 14, by the way...so maybe she's a future entrepreneur in the making. =)

Thanks again for all the advice and guidance folks!

Man, if you had posted two days earlier, then I may have gone that route instead. I went ahead and ended the campaign though so we could get the 3 shirts ASAP, then we'll try another round once my kids/wife can wear em to school. Thanks though!
