Thinking about creating an UDEMY course

by DamianGil 15 replies
In the help section in Udemy it does recommend that you bring your own traffic at least to get the wheels going. But how much success can one find by trusting Udemy uses its big audience assuming the course is great and yes, I know the commission structure: 97% if people use your promo codes, 50-50 and 75-25 if they use ads.

I mainly do my activities in the Spanish speaking market and I want to get into the English speaking market. Unfortunately I am starting in scratch from there and I want to test in Udemy first.

Thank you.

    Hey Damian,

In the situation you described, if your course is in an in-demand topic and you title your course correctly, you can expect to make a good number of sales from Udemy's search engine and promotions.

I have 30 courses published on Udemy and some courses do better than others, but all together it adds up to a very nice monthly passive income in the thousands.

If yu don't mind sharing, what are some of your course topics?

You need to focus on two factors:

    1) Marketing
    2) Value

Udemy alone will not make you a good seller.

I've created 6 course...you need to offer something unique and not in the internet marketing niche to generate any sales. You can give away a LOT of free training if you want. Which is what I do to give people free copies of my software. It works really really well for that. Don't expect to be able to make any sales or build a list this way. But it can help you brand yourself.

Why do you say that we should not create courses in internet marketing niche? Don't they get any response on Udemy? Just curious...

However it's not applicable as morg2k2 points out. Be cautious.

That´s because you don´t know what you are talking about.
Its against the UDEMY ToS to grab students email addresses! So that will not work.

    Actually, just to update this.

    Udemy recently updated their terms.

It IS possible to make your very last lecture (in a Udemy course) a lecture where you send the student to an opt in or a promotional site.

This can only be done in the VERY LAST LECTURE and must be marked "Bonus Lecture".

Udemy is ok with this according to recently updated guidelines.

Dave how goes the battle sir?

Do you agree that Internet marketing related courses don't do that well on Udemy?

I just created an awesome solo ad + lead generation course and wanted to throw it on Udemy.

At least I have my own list so I can pitch it via there if all else fails.

(I know you've been successful on Udemy and I want to start publishing as much content there as possible. If you ever want me to review your stuff, or if you want to review mine, please feel free to hit me up!).

I appreciate your feedback Mr. Espino, stay cool.

        Hi Sarevok,

I have quite a few IM related courses on Udemy that do well. But Udemy is a very different "animal" than the traditional IM marketplace, so it needs to be approached differently to get the most out of it.

The key with Udemy (at least at this point in their early history) is to make your course titles as "broad appeal" as possible and to target the things Udemy students want to learn as opposed to throwing an existing IM course up on the site (which is what I did with my very first course... Man, I've learned a lot over my 31 courses published on the site!)

    Questions about Udemy course

If I create a course about films and:

    a) include a clip from youtube
    b) stills from youtube vids
    c) screenshot of book covers

without any form of permission re image rights etc, as part of my course, am I runnng any legal risks?

Can anyone point me to the necessary law frm if you're not sure....

Let's say I do a course about poison. I include a clip from Cleopatra (starring Liz Taylor, Richard Burton and other actors, but these others are still alive) as she was poisoned, am I running an image rights, a copyright risk?

    Thank you!
