question about when you first got started

I wanted to ask, when you first got started doing either affliate/cpa marketing or more so product creation, did you have a mentor to help you, or did you buy a guide and go to work that way. I wanted to ask because there are so many guides being made daily, so many products that promise you alot of things, but i rarely here about people able to make good income onilne or go full time with these guides....what were your experiences? did you use just a guide to get started, or did you get a mentor?

In a sense, yes, I did have a mentor.

I usually answer a straight "no" to this question, but, thinking about it, I really was mentored. I began by promoting a certain affiliate program and the owner introduced me to a forum. The forum, a bit like WF for some newbies here I would imagine, became my mentor. And then a little later on, but roughly around the same period, quite an influential guy in the industry took a shine to me and taught me a few things. Again, thinking about it, quite a bit more than a few things. But this is going back 20 years.

Nowadays, coaching is big business, very streamlined it is too, with professional coaches in specialized areas. I think if I was starting out today, I might consider a coach, but I'd be far more likely to just figure things out myself and hopefully receive some friendly mentorship along the way. There are advantages to coaching. You tend to screw up less and the answers are handed to you. But I'm just of the mindset that I like to plug away on my own.

The trouble with buying an eBook, and one of the reasons I prefer to give them away, is the help is somewhat limited even from the very best eBooks. There honestly is no substitute for learning a business model (which you can often do for free) but learning the secrets yourself, as you take action and figure them out.

First, you don't hear about a lot of people making a good online income because very few people do. Over 99.9% of the world gets a career and works for someone for the rest of their lives, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But being an entrepreneur means that you probably won't have that typical mindset.

Now, about where to learn- it depends on what you want to do. Before buying anything, start at the larger authority sites and absorb all their free information like a sponge. And I'm not talking about sites with squeeze pages and sales pitches- avoid those completely unless they're offering a free book download. You need to learn the basics independently and decide without an outside influence if it's something you can do.

As far as finding a mentor, there's two big problems there. Number one, you're not ready for a mentor and number two, you probably can't afford to hire one of those snake-oil salesmen that pretend to be mentors. So you're walking into this with blinders on and asking for help...and guess who's going to come to your rescue? Nobody legitimate, of course, because real mentors want to see you prove yourself before offering to take you under your wing.

So my advice is no mentors, no paid courses and start studying on your own with free resources. Then build a site, become a helpful part of this community, and learn to ask the right kinds of questions to get solid advice. You'll have to learn to read between the lines though and spot bad advice from a mile away...and to do that you have to already know what you're doing. So go educate yourself first, decide if you have the right mentality and then get to work if you can handle it.

Well, certainly having a good mentor will propel you to success at a much faster rate than learning every thing from scratch. Saves you all trouble and costly mistakes that comes from being a beginner. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly. I do agree, and not wishing to do myself or any other coach out of business, for many people it is indeed the answer but it does depend on the mindset. Personally, I've always found that I learn better by figuring things out myself. And, thinking about it, I think I'd enjoy it more than receiving coaching. But, yes, if you prefer to make fewer mistakes and have the information doled out in easy to digest portions then coaching is of course terrific.

For me it was a combo of a few Guides (actually video courses that were all under $20 ) I purchased along with knowledge and experience I gained hanging out right here at WF !

It was a lot easier in those days because we had an abundance of high thinkers here at WF.

Not so much anymore. Just a handful now here at WF and I see where a few have made themselves on to this Thread

Well, i have started about 10 years back or so and at the time i never had mentor.

Because there were not many mentors on the market and also because i did not wanted to spent too much money in mentoring. But i think i was a lucky ******* to say the least

My first test was a really crappy Clickbank product in an even worst review website that I did with almost no web design knowledge... Even though I sold a couple of copies of that crappy product with my website

Then i switched niche to the SEO Business and started to sell it directly in Ebay and I become probably one of the most successful Sellers out there selling SEO services.

Then i have ordered a website from developer here in the WF that was not cheap at all but my first order came in less than a week... Was one of my ebay clients and boom I have earned 5k in 1 Week!

But have in mind that normally Online marketing are not that easy, as i think it was to me... Sometimes you need to have a bit of luck, enjoy the niche, give superb client support to start seeing results.

If you know what you want to do, and if you know how to do it, take action, and do it.
If you're not sure what to do, and if you're not sure how to do it, find a mentor.
There are mentors in every niche, and a lot of them are very active in the Warrior Forum, so they're easy to find. Most, but not all, charge high fees for their coaching (mine doesn't) but whatever you pay will be peanuts compared to what you could make through following their advice.
I wish you God Luck in all your online endeavors, and I hope you will keep smiling!

I had alot of help from 1 guy in particular but at the end of the day, it's whether or not you do what they say, and not question them.... or try to sue them. I didn't try to sue my mentor - his techniques WORKED for me. But i see and hear situations like this all the time. You have to have a strong backbone when working online. Don't look for instant 5-month riches. If after year 5 you're only making $1,000/month... be grateful for it. I promise you the next $1,000 will come MUCH quicker.

I got started 15 years ago using email to generate traffic to cpa/lead generation offers. I learned through trial and error, but thankfully back then things were much much easier, it was truly like shooting fish in a barrel...the money just rolled in and once you have money, it's easier to make more of it.

What started the whole thing for me, was a tiny little article that I read on the last page before the back cover in Entrepreneur magazine. It was about a guy using email to generate leads cheaply for his business. Knowing the value of good leads for companies...the light bulb just went off and I've never looked back and I'm still doing it to this day.

I didn't have mentor, but I learned from various IM forums, IM blogs I searched from google, including some youtube videos also from IM ebooks. I spent months learning and trying before I made my 1st money. I was just trying with no expectation, but was surprised with the result.

when i first started online my income would go up and down a lot because I didn't have a mentor to point me in the right direction.

I did end up making around 60k my first year online because I was selling a high ticket item primarily, however some months I would have an 8k month and then the next month barely make $500...

That's no real way to live in my opinion.

So it wasn't until I got a mentor that I was able to finally make a consistent income.

I started with Internet Marketing in 2012, being back in these days a web coder, I allready had some light experience with that stuff or atleast I knew a few things like what affiliate marketing is etc. and I allready know that websites are making money using CPC, CPM etc.

I came across different forums and I have read many posts and blogs about that stuff so I learned it from here and there, tried many methods and also many ideas and concepts that I have created, I failed, again and again till it started working. This was in mid 2012.

And no, I never had an Mentor or anyone I knew (in real life or in Skype, ICQ etc.) who would help me or give me anykind of tips.
