What to do with freebie seekers

So I have been dealing with a pretty high percentage of well targeted subscribers who simply aren't willing to buy. For example I have a make money off eBay list and even when I add a targeted bonus for a low entry product I get nothing but when I would put another freebie out there with some value it gets eaten right up! What gives? Any advice from the forum would be greatly appreciated -

    keep giving them freebies then, they will become more loyal for every freebie. Game companies has learned this, give the game out for free, maybe it will take years to convert them to paid members, put when they pay they will buy again and again.

    I have nothing against if people even pirate my stuff, because just that they take time out of the day, is worth everything.

    It's better that he choose your freebies, than all of the 1000 others freebies there are out there.

      Conversion is the name of the game.

      If you do marketing to see how many people you can gather for your freebies . . . or you get your jollies from how many people subscribe to your list . . . then freebie seekers are great!

      But that's not why I'm working hard at Internet marketing.

      There are lots of "causes" of poor conversion. In fact, every variable we test as marketers typically lead us to the answer of how we can increase our conversions in order to make more sales.

      When my own conversions are not what I believe they should be, I typically question the following:
      1. Is my offer going to the right targeted audience? If I am not putting my offer in front of prospects that are specifically looking for what I am selling, then I'm wasting resources. Demand is already in the marketplace so I need to make sure my offer matches the prospect's demand.
      2. Is my sales letter copy (offer) the best it can be? Maybe there is something(s) that could be improved to better get my message to the prospect and encourage him/her to take action now.
      3. Is there anything in my sales system that is holding back prospects from accepting my offer? Maybe I haven't removed enough risk for the prospect's comfort? Maybe I don't have the right social proof (testimonials)? Maybe my call to action isn't getting action? Maybe I need to sweeten the deal? Maybe I'm not offering the right payment options? Is the pricing appropriate?
      4. What alternatives to my offer are prospects buying? It could be that there are other similar or even better products and offers already in the marketplace. Where is my perfect customer going to get what I am offering?
      5. Is the value in my offer readily apparent? And is it enough to cause a sale? Do I really make choosing my offer the only logical alternative for someone in my niche?
      Certainly there are other reasons for poor conversions . . . but these are the things I would analyze first when your prospects aren't buying.

    You can Ask them what they want that you aren't providing...hopefully you have good engagement so you get some replies.

    You can use automation to move them from your Hot list to your Cool list if they don't engage (click a link, reply, etc.) after a certain number of emails.

    You can screen immediately for buyers...as Declan O'Flaherty would say, "A buyer is a buyer is a bloody buyer" so even a $1 product will show you who has a credit card and the authorization to use it. Buyers go on another list.

    Think it through. Traffic >>> Qualification >>> Closing. Most people skip the second step because they don't know it exists.

      This you should also understand, you need to get target traffic. Traffic is nothing if it isn't taget.. Better to have 1 visitor there is targeted, than 1000 there don't understand your product.

      Every time someone buys something, they've made a decision that what they're buying will be worth more to them than the money used to buy. It seems that your list members are not making that decision when you make an offer. That means there is something off about the offer.

      For example, you mentioned adding a bonus to your offer. Have you tested [product + bonus] vs. [product + second product BOGO]? Things like that can make a huge difference, especially in a fairly crowded space.

      Maybe your offer is over- or under-priced. Have you tested different price points?

      As Jason mentioned, have you asked them why they didn't buy?

      I can pretty much guarantee you that unless you are very, very lucky, you won't hit the optimum offer on the first try. Being very, very good isn't enough.

    I once sold a product, first i sold it for $9.. NO SALES!!!

    Then i changed the price to $89, yes same product! Then people started buying like crazy..

    I know it sounds silly, but people only trust you if you sell expensive products.

        You should also inform Walmart, 99 Cent Only Stores, and Overstock.com.

        But I get what you're saying steffanmax. I'd only qualify it by saying "Some people only trust you if you sell higher quality products (or the perception thereof).

      Let's accept the fact that freebies are what attached the buyers towards subscribing to a list. So my first suggestion is to avoid having any contempt for the people in the list. Treat them as friends and potential paying customers.

      Having said that, it is also true that it is a business and we all would ultimately like to make money from it. So here are a few strategies that you can apply if the list is full of freebie seekers.

      1) Try to monetize from their freebie seeking nature. Rather than sending freebies in email, give them brief info to kindle their interest. Then have them click a link to go to you blog or other pages to get the freebie. You can sell ad space on that page. The click through of your freebie seekers would provide you the traffic to the ads.

      2) Sell Solo Ads - self explanatory.

      3) Try selling a product or software in the related niche that offers a free trial before buy. As freebie seekers, they are likely to take up the free trail. If the software is good, some from the list would get used to using it and convert to paid customers.

      4) Offer a related "upgrade" as paid product. It should be related to what they good in the free product and offer a lot of additional value.

      5) The moment someone from you list makes even a small buy, have a strategy to know them and follow up with them separately. These are buyers who may go for other premium products if promoted right.

      At the end, do focus on building a relationship with your list. Even if they don't convert in the short run, you'd be investing in your future. All the best!

        You may be already doing this. But you never mentioned it. So, it's my civic duty to ask the obvious. Because in my experience that's what most people overlook, so here goes.

        You mentioned you have people who gobble up your freebies but they never buy. Here's the top areas most people miss when they have your problem, based on my experience in solving this hurdle. For example,
        • Are You Offering them similar products that compliment your freebies? - Example, free make money off ebay list, backends to ... make money off ebay deluxe course, ebay mentoring or coaching service, hidden ebay video secrets,etc. or do you offer something non-Ebay related?
        • Do you go from free to $100 or more? - Instead of using the stair-step pricing method. Many times you have to start with a low price and work your way up, over-delivering value at each step.
        • Is your Freebie the problem? Does it over-deliver? - Is it something they'd pay for if you charged for it? Your Freebie tells people the quality and level of service you offer. If it says cheap, average or hum-drum -- you're toast! Your freebie should make the prospect think. "Wow, if his freebies have this much value the products he charges for must be incredible". If not ... game over!
        Or
        • Your list is just full of cheap, lazy, "want something for nothing" freebie seekers and you need to do a better job of finding qualified prospects or you're dead.
        Based on my experience, you're probably missing or falling short in at least one or more of the above. I'd take a second look at each.

    What's the site? What's the squeeze page and/or offer? What's an example of an email that you send out to your list? How often do you mail to your list? How many subscribers do you have?

    Your results are telling you something.

    The Internet is the Information Super Highway. People come onto the internet to find information. Offering something for free is like saying "Hello" when you first meet a stranger. They don't really know you. However something about your offer intrigued them to respond.

    The challenge is can you continue to carry on that conversation and build a relationship long term.

    Something you could try is placing your offers on the thank you page to your freebies. That way when your list takes the freebie they are already part way to buying they just need that extra convincing place you money offers on the thank you page and not direct to your list. It would also be a good idea to transfer those that click on a paid order to another buyers list.
    You could also try making your freebie a teaser rather than a free product.
    You could also try letting your free product do the selling by adding some sales copy inside the product and again transfer anyone that clicks onto a buyers list.
