EzineArticles.com CLOSED DOWN???

Hey Warriors,

I know most of us are avid article marketers
or got started through article marketing.

Heck, my assistants spend most of their days
writing and submitting articles for me.

What would you do if you woke up tomorrow
and EzineArticles.com was closed down. What
if article marketing didn't exist anymore?

What would you do?

I'd make up some Promo Videos, instead of articles, and load em up to "Tube Mogul" plus...send out a whole lot of "Press Releases".

I would either use video marketing, forum marketing, or go back to some powerful offline tactics I used to drive targeted traffic and was also good for building a list.

"run in circles...scream and shout!" That would be tough since I get a lot of good traffic from that site. Not only backlinks and traffic but other sites pick up my articles and publish them elsewhere. I would probably just stick with GA and cry a little bit...maybe do some drinking...

I have a question regarding article marketing. I've submitting articles like crazy and so far I haven't really seen any benefits such as huge surges in traffic to my site. Is article marketing therefore all that it's cracked-up to be or does someone have an idea as to how to make a killing with article marketing?

Which article directory are they submitted to? What time of day are they usually published? Which categories are they submitted to? Is the title and summary interesting enough to draw in your visitors?

I'd suggest to run a search and/or post this in another thread (since it's off-topic to post this here ), however your answers are all out there.

    Hi Justin,

    Excellent question.

I don't mean to highjack your thread, but I think you could replace EzineArticles with any number of sites IMers frequently use.

    Such as...

What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and AdWords/PayPal/Warrior Forum/ClickBank/Google/YouTube/Blogger/YOUR hosting provider was closed down?

    Or...

What if you woke up tomorrow and all of the free resources you now use started charging a substantial monthly fee?

Probably a good idea to have a few backup plans in place.

    All the best,

Agree. This is the way to discover new techniques, those methods we don't use or we don't care cause we rely on article marketing.

The answer to all this: HAVE AN EXIT STRATEGY...

Do not stick to your business and commit to run it until you become old. Decide when you are going to move on. At some point sell it off, take a mini-retirement and then start over with some new business or at least new projects.

EZA is just a platform. Content marketing is the strategy.

If EZA died you'd publish more stuff to Squidoo, or hub pages, or Buzzle or Isnare, or Associated Content or.. heaven forbid, publish more stuff as guest posts on other people's real blogs... or split your articles up into 140 character units and publish them over many weeks as Tweets...

Content marketing wouldn't change in its effectiveness as a strategy.

Justin and everyone else on this thread,

Great thread and much food for thought contained in here. This very question is one reason it is good to never have a stagnant marketing plan for your business. This is a great thread, and should get people thinking about diversifying their content. Even something like a change in Google's algorithm could cause EzineArticles to effectively disappear. It's happened to bigger websites in the past.

Besides, if you're doing true keyword research for your niches, then you'll already know that there are a ton of other places out there to submit your article to that Google likes just as much, if not more than EZA.

This thread definitely has given me a boost of motivation to stop procrastinating and start building a solid business plan with different income sources, different marketing strategies, etc.

It's important to have a backup plan, putting all your eggs in one basket is asking for trouble. Big companies can close down and you have no control over what other people do so in that case the best thing to do is make sure you spread your resources
    and content.

Keep a backup of your content as well and if you are in the market to stay long term then you should be concentrating on other long-term strategies such as networking with other businesses so you can get your name well known in the market.

For example just the other day I was on e-zine articles I came across an author who has had 25,000views in two months on an article, his article was pointing to his squidoo lens and guess what squidoo lens is locked therefore all that traffic for nothing nothing whatsoever. He should have linked to his own website!

If I step into my basement and lock the door and shut off the lights and just sit thinking about "What if this really happened?" several moments later ideas begin to flow. The old saying, "Necessity is the mother of invention/inventiveness" still holds a lot of truth.

My first thought is to focus more closely on exploiting the real strength of sites like twitter and a couple of up and coming social sites that are simmering just below the radar. People are naturally gregarious and these sites have not yet hit the momentum phase in their growth and acceptance.

Ezine is solid, but it's not social enough to really grab the masses like other options that are rising to the surface.

I'm quite surprised at how many people rely on EZA so much... if you rely on EZA this much, you should be VERY worried about the stability of your business, and the foundation it is built on.

It's only an article directory... it barely passes for a Made For Adsense cash site...

There probably were a few. I must admit my first impression was that it was written that way deliberately. I had a pre-conceived opinion before opening the thread that the content wouldn't entirely match the message in the title. I don't think the OP ran out of space so maybe he just forgot the 'what if' off the front of the sentence? The sig link wording seems to fit the same profile, although I have no idea what's on the other end of it...

I often wonder about the value gained through controversy based wordplay that might trigger more views and possibly sig views/clicks, versus the negative effects of 'crying wolf' - especially when it occurs in other environments, such as on the wider web. Interesting...(well I think so )

I may be the odd man out but I hate ezine articles. I like Articles Base and GO Articles much better

But I get much better results by building a Niche Site based on a Product Name WidgetSupreme4033.com (that is supposed to be the make and model number so as to be specific)

So I build sites on product names, just like the ole' classic Niche Marketing on Crack taught us...and get organic traffic from Google by building high quality backlinks...then rinse and repeat

    I hope this helps

I learnt early that it is never wise to put your eggs all in 1 basket.

EzineArticles is just but 1 site. There are tons of other sites you can publish to.
There are many good automation tools out there...so you do have the power
to scale up quite quickly. It's not as difficult as before.

Paid traffic, alone, such as PPC, PPV, banner advertising and ezine advertising
can generate a ton of traffic fast.

Anyway while I say it's important to not depend on 1 source of traffic,
you don't want to overly diversify.

Why? Remember the 80/20 rule? 80% of the results will come from
20% of your efforts (traffic channels). If you analyze your traffic,
you will know this is quite true.

See what's giving your the most traffic, and focus on the select best few.

Article marketing is only part of the Traffic side of the equation. And while EZA is a big player in article marketing, they're VERY expendable. If EZA ever goes away, you can just divert your article marketing efforts to the next directory that Google, etc. decide to divert their love to.

        Lance,
Google does NOT direct their love to EZA... The fact that many blindly out of bad advice builds all their backlinks to their articles on EZA is what makes it seem like google is showing the site love.

Well.. I also do not like their "blackhat seo tricks" either... This may be a personal opinion but to me adding those non-relative links at the bottom of articles is trying to trick the search engines to get higher rankings for that article. It is not done to help the authors though, it is done to drive more traffic to the google ads.

No offense, but that's a dangerous way to approach a business. If you are reactive, you WILL get hurt. It's only a matter of time. Diversify before that happens.

Send articles to offline publishers. I've done this before. The benefits over online distribution is that the reputation gain is usually much higher than online counterparts.

Exactly! This kind of reprinting nonsense won't last for long on the net. That's why I only believe in exclusive publishing. If I can't find an ideal spot for my article, I'll go offline searching for it.

I really take issue with misleading subject lines like this. As a copywriter, I know the importance of getting attention with your subject line and being controversial, as well as shock value. But misleading subject lines only undermind your credibility and the credibility of your post.

Just a few minutes ago I read a post of yours where you mentioned you don't like tabbed browsing? If I understood it right, I was thinking along the lines "boy, we just don't think alike." Of course there are not many people who do, but at least on this I completely agree.

When I read the headline, it just didn't seem real because there weren't a dozen other threads on the same topic then I got to the post and it reminded me of someone's comment "we need a wtf button for each post."

Anyway we are all just learning and actually I really do appreciate negative feedback if there is a point to it. If I do have egg on my face let me know so I can take it off. Feel free to straighten me out anytime.

        Roger,

        I saw.

Going by his subject line, my impression is that he was going for shock value. Which is fine...IF it's not misleading.

As you originally stated, if he'd said "What if..." then it would have been different. But he didn't.

The whole subject line/thread left a bad taste in my mouth.

Does it matter here? Maybe not if it's not something you typically do. But if you pull a stunt like that on your list, you're seriously hurting yourself. Customers take a dim view of stupid stunts like that.

Laugh since they've been quite bad with me thus far.

And then just focus on GoArticles and the other high traffic ones - at the moment I use about 10 different article directories so losing 1 wouldn't be anything big for me.

I only use it for backlinks so it wouldn't be a major thing for me.

I came to know just recently that so many warriors are getting
traffic almost only from EZA. I believed that EZA was more of a place
where you build your reputation as a marketer/writer than a traffic source.

I am not article marketer, so I wander how many articles you must give
them every month in order to get 5000+ visitors a month from them?
I guess it's more than 100 articles per month...

Whie EZA is still running. A good idea is to copy all your articles and save it on your hard-drive + some backup USB or CD.

Then, when EZA goes down, you are ready to resubmitt all your articles to the next article directory.

Go and copy your articles now before all your work is eliminated.
