Product Making Suggestions

Hi, my name is Justin and I'm new to the forum. I quit my job 6 months ago in pursuit of the laptop lifestyle. I've been reading the forum for a while and finally decided to dive in and be part of the community!!

I want to take all the information I've learned over the past 6 months and make an information product or membership site. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for a first-time product maker??

Thanks in advance.

Publishing kindle books, list building, and ecommerce. Just normal stuff, but I feel like I can explain things in a way that is engaging, refreshing, and straight to the point. The creation itself seems a bit overwhelming. Not too sure where to start.

If you'll forgive me Jason they are quite vague but that can be fine.

Do you have an idea of the subject matter you want to create a product on?

ie Will this product be about your list building success?

Or are you looking for inspiration still?

    Justin,

Yes, here's a tip. Spend some time in your exact market. Learn what participants want . . . what they are asking for. See if you can identify some common desires or wants. See if there are "gaps" or holes in the products that are currently available.

In other words, look for things of value that you can add to your product that are currently "in demand." These are the things that will set you and your product apart from all the other product alternatives that are already out there. You sales will reflect the fact that you listened to your market and gave them what they wanted.

Too many product developers base their products on what they themselves think people want. But very often they are dead wrong. You are not your market. There are products everywhere that no one will buy. Don't let yours be one of those.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

Thank you, Steve. That sounds like some very valuable and sound advice. I'll be sure to implement these mindsets into my research!!

P.S. I'm not sure how to give your post thank you. Maybe because I'm still new the option hasn't been unlocked. EDIT: Nope, just blind.

    Congratulations on that decision bro!!

I hope you have a good amount ofmoney saved up to invest in the right tools and services to make it happen online!

It will take time, patience, and a good budget to get going online and start profiting in a few months.

You also need to put in the necessary work. It is going to be a challenge - but a challenge you can overcome!

There is a lot of valuable information on product creation online. You just have to take the time to do your research. You can find so much online, it's unbelievable.

Later on, you will learn that the lack of knowledge is never the problem but the lack of massive consistent action with the right self-discipline.

You only need to know the right knowledge about something, in order to get massive results.

The massive results never come from massive knowledge, but it always comes from massive consistent actions!

I think a training site - in a profitable niche - can be very profitable.

I would recommend you to use the WordPress Platform to help you build a membership site.

It is user friendly and it has a lot of potential.

You should also start building up your social networks and following. Start branding yourself.

That way, when your product or service is ready, you can get customers really fast!

    I hope this helps man!

    Keep up the great work!

Hey Justin, to start a new business is not easy, so before that, maybe do some marketing research and figure out what people really need and who are your target customer, that would be good for you. Wish you good luck.

tips for a first-time product maker??
Ask yourself, "Why do I want to create a product?"

Is it the most profitable use of your time? Usually people sell "products" because there is more money in that then in using the "methods" they sell.

I'm not saying this is the case with you, but I would think long and hard between creating a product and other avenues of income.

So, why do you want to create a product?

  • Research your area/niche youd like to work within. Creat a simple low ticket product, thus creating a buyers list. Then via affiliate / email marketing, guide these buyers to a higher ticket product. Just a simple sales funnel system that can easily be replicated. Feel free to PM me if you want any more general help with it.

    Hi there,

Talk about jumping in at the deep end. My advice to you is to hang fire simply because of the question you ask.

I'm not trying to put you down in any way at all but from the question you are asking I can see you are not ready to manage a membership site successfully. Do you have any experience at all in product creation? Honestly setting up a successful membership site is not easy. In fact, there are much easier ways for you to make a substantial healthy recurring income online without all the headaches a membership site brings.

I have seen membership sites put together by people clearly lacking in experience online and it really shows.

I am involved with a membership site and I can tell you $1,000's have gone into not only the creation of this membership site but also testing. Not forgetting the many years of bloody hard work.

I know what you are looking for and I am pretty sure it is recurring income. I understand that, but without the experience there are easier ways to get recurring income without all the stress and costs of running a membership site.

Many marketers are getting very healthy recurring incomes online without making 1 product never mind a membership site that will take up all your time. I am assuming you are looking for a way to make a living with more freedom?

    Good Luck

    Ian G. Howarth.

Give it a little while and you can create an information product on why you shouldn't quite your job until you have stability in your life.

I've learned that IM is more mindset to succeed than actually circumstances and events.

Do your research and know where the demands are and what you have an interest in and go and and create some goals and go after it.

Creating an information product is no different than creating any other product. As with so much else in business, it's not complicated -- but that doesn't mean it's easy.
      1. You identify a need.
      2. You create something that satisfies that need.
      3. You sell your product.
First of all, there are needs everywhere. And needs don't have to even just be a need for something new, it could be a need for a better, faster, or cheaper version of something is there. For example, Timothy Leatherman identified a particular need while he was traveling:

"Leatherman was inspired to design a "Boy Scout knife with pliers" while he and his wife traveled Europe and the Middle East in 1975, often attempting to use a simple pocketknife to repair their repeatedly malfunctioning car and leaky hotel plumbing."
      (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leatherman)

Second, you have to have some sort of skill, knowledge, natural aptitude, something that makes you able to fill that need in a way that nobody else has done before. For instance George De Mestral was curious about -- and discovered how -- certain plants attached themselves to various types of things and then thought about how that same idea could work in other contexts:

"De Mestral first conceptualized Velcro after returning from a hunting trip with his dog in the Alps in 1941. After removing several of the burdock burrs (seeds) that kept sticking to his clothes and his dog's fur, he became curious as to how it worked. He examined them under a microscope, and noted hundreds of "hooks" that caught on anything with a loop, such as clothing, animal fur, or hair.[6] He saw the possibility of binding two materials reversibly in a simple fashion,[4] if he could figure out how to duplicate the hooks and loops."
      (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_de_Mestral)

The point of all of the above, is that the best products -- information or not -- aren't created because the someone wanted a "laptop lifestyle". They're created because someone identified a specific need and had the ability, talent and a burning desire (and accompanying work ethic) to solve it.

    learned ????

Hopefully you have gotten down in the 'trenches' and actually made some money from certain areas of IM before you develop your own Product... i.e. made money from blogging, PPC, Adsense, Site Flipping, SEO,Article Marketing, Ebay, Amazon etc.etc..

To be honest we already have too many people who enter IM as a Coach or Product Creator and have NOT made a single penny outside of this.

IMHO, it's warped because they are basing their Services on THEORY/LEARNING and not PERSONAL EXPERIENCE !!

What Steve B is suggesting is great advice. Search forums in your Niche to see what type of questions people are asking. Maybe pick the top ten questions and have these answered. Aim to have your product about a subniche (niche within a niche), so it's quite specific. In other words concentrate on one problem only rather than trying to appeal to everyone.

I like how Callan Rush teaches to create products based on specific, single questions. Not trying to stuff everything you know into one thing.

And like someone else said, create a product funnel/suite. A free offer, an introductory offer, your main offer, and perhaps a premier offer. At increasing price points. But they should all relate on the same question, or similar questions. Don't do ALL your ideas. Choose one and create the funnel suite for it (based on the market research others are suggesting).

Product launching requires niche research, you need to know your math, you need a plan for a successful product launch, finishing the product is only a part of the product launch, you need to set up your funnel, gather affiliates.. all requires researching my friend, spend all the time you need on researching and remember if you failed (God forbid) its only gonna be part of the process, success is not a destination, its a journey!

Thanks to everyone who responded! There are some fantastic tips in some of your responses and I'm very happy that you are all willing to share your knowledge with me.

I feel as though my initial post was a little misleading. I have INDEED made money online in multiple ways. Ebay, list building, affiliate sales, dropshipping, ecommerce, kindle publishing, and raffles are all income streams that I have successfully made money in. I literally spend about 10 hours/day researching and working on this. It's something I'm very passionate about and that's why I wish to create a product to teach others.

I think I can streamline a lot of the convoluted information that is out there and that's why I believe I can make a successful product. The market is hungry, the product will offer value, I've put my research in, and my intents are pure. I'm hoping this will be an equation for a successful launch!!! :-)

The main goal of my first launch would be to build a buyer's list, establish relationships with some great affiliates, and solidify myself within the community. I'm not focused on making money right out of the gate with this whole product launch thing.

P.S. Due to your responses I've decided a membership site is NOT the way to go. I'll stick with a regular product to start.

I'd do some market research first Justin.
What product or products are you thinking of creating/selling?
What products are already out there in this area?
Get on forums and see what people are asking?

One way is to get on the forums and say you are going to create an info product about "your topic".
Ask for what questions and info guys on the forum would like to know.
Then offer them a free copy of your information product for their help.

You'll give away some freebies but you can market to them later, and crucially you will have a product that you know your market wants, because they told you!!

    Good luck :O)

As someone who has created multiple products (both physical products and information products in the form of ebooks and online courses), I would advise you to create something in a category you're genuinely interested in. This may not be everyone's experience, but the grind of marketing something in a category that you don't have any passion for can make the 'laptop lifestyle' a lot less fun. Follow the advice of the smart people in this forum, but if you can find a niche that you actually like, and you would normally follow even if it weren't your business, it'll make life a lot better...

I have created products by simply asking my subscribers what they wanted to learn next. This is something I applied in my Facebook group (check this poll I made) and basically I created a product after that

But what happens if you don't have an audience to ask for? Then it's time to create it! Make some value posts, videos or podcasts, upload them and ask them for their opinion. People love giving away their opinion (like I'm doing here! lol) and it's a sure fire method of creating something that you know has a market instead of guessing

And @pozas77 is absolutely right. That method (thread -> survey -> gift) works absolutely great!

Be able to recognize, evaluate and deliver value to whoever it is that you're making money from. True value can often be seen so early on. Take whatever idea you're perusing and simplify it where you can create value and find a small audience or customer to share it within a short time frame (1-2 months). Evaluate the actual or potential value of that customer and then scale it up.

    Good
: "How can I do this one simple thing and find someone who can value from it"

Bad: "I want to build this really sophisticated value proposition that has all these parts and when their all finally working together, I'll have something big".

In today's environment it's pretty much essential to be able to get good affiliates on board. Can you develop a product and give affiliates 100% commission to get them to promote your product while creating a list of buyers for yourself?

You also have to decide what media to use. Will your product be text, video, both? How about software? Do you have an idea for software and the funds and know-how to submit the details to a programmer?

IMO, the single most important question you need to answer is, where EXACTLY will you find your customers? This can't be a guess. You need to be sure you can reach your market before making a product.

If you act quickly, you have a great opportunity to learn. Jeff Walker is getting ready to launch his Product Launch Formula again. Before each yearly launch, he demonstrates the process with his pre-launch content. Enough content in the pre-launch videos to launch a product even if you don't buy the course.

Pay particular attention to the Seed Launch, where you can get paid to develop your product. Find the link on JeffWalker.com.

Walker also has an excellent book on the process called "Launch!", available on Amazon.

Boomsr, invitations like that are better done via Private Message (PM).

Posting an email address with a vague description of something that works for you is a common tactic used to try to spam the forum, trolling for emails.
