It finally happened - Wordpress fired me

Hi Guys/Galls,

Looooong time no see. How you all doing.
I am jumping back in to IM and ironically it is because Wordpress deleted my blogs that have been making me money the past year (without me doing any IM whatsoever).

So yes, I am going back and start writing all my blogs again but now on my own domain

Now I am searching for good (preferably free) multi blog software that I can install on my domain.

Any help is greatly appreciated. And I hope I will have as much fun and as little sleep as I did the first time I worked this job.

Thanks for having me back!

Naithan

    Dude,

Its no surprise that has happened. Thats what you get
when you try to build a legitimate business on the cheap
and host all your stuff on a free service.

I guess you know that now

Its time to start from scratch.

If you are dead set on doing multiple blogs on the same
domain you can do it with wordpress MU WordPress MU › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform

      I totally agree with Michael.
Wordpress MU has served my business very well for nearly a year.
I've have it installed on multiple servers across many domains.
Sometimes it can be a little cranky and the support isn't as strong as standard WP but trust me, it's definitely worth it.

Happened to me too. I had a blog on Digital Camera Reviews and it had around 300 posts, all reviews of different models of digital cameras. I was using pics from the original sites (from Kokak, Cannon etc.) and I thought that was the reason for deletion.

But if this is happening to other too, NOW I don't know why my blog was deleted. BTW, I had adsense on it, too.

Not the first and not the last, but fortunately a lesson to someone. I have started three blogs this week, all with a wordpress theme but all within my own hosting. Tough on you but a good lesson for the rest of us.

    Hoi Naithan !

I think you should have your own domain with your own hosting as well, so you just have to install the wordpress script to your hosting. So you don't have to be worried for being deleted, only you can delete the blogs.

This happened to me with one of my sites when I was still somewhat of a newbie I wrote to them and asked them if they would allow me to access all the content so I could export it to a blog on my own server and they did You should consider this too rather than re-writing everything.

I still see a few people recommending using a wordpress.com blog to people in their e-books.

Newbie question - does this happen a lot and with what sites? Blogger for example?

It happens with Wordpress. It can happen with Blogger. Thankfully with HubPages they'll kill your Hub soon after you start it if it seems too promotional. Even Squidoo has recently gone through a round of mass-purging, wiping out hundreds of old lenses that didn't meet their new restrictions.

Build your primary site on your own domain. Use these properties to widen your "influence" and to provide backlinks to your primary site.

      -Kelly

P.S. There are those who have built their entire business around these sites. These people often give/sell courses on how to make money with free sites. They are also the ones who cry the loudest when a mass-purge happens.

If you have a successful site, ONCE is too many times. It simply isn't a good business move to host on free blog hosting sites. Get a domain, get a host that hosts unlimited domains on one hosting package, like Hostgator and start building sites that aren't going to disappear unless you violate the hosting TOS.

Definitely not wise to set blogs up on the free sites.

You want them on your own hosting account.

And why in the world would someone choose to use Blogger? There's a place to click that takes you to the next random blog. Why would you want to work hard to get visitors, only to have them click to go somewhere else that doesn't make you money?

          Backlinks.

Blogspot blogs are simple and quick to throw up and have more flexibility and fewer restrictions than Squidoo or Hubpages.

Thanks for all your replies. I am happy things are as busy as they used to be.

Anyone have more suggestions for hosting multiple blogs. Or is wordpress mu the only one, and as I said, I learned from my mistakes (but made some nice $$ in the progress). And will make it bigger and better than ever.

    Thanks again all!

Control. They had it , you didn't. That's what always bothered me about people building a business on Adsense or eBay. Poof and it's gone one day without recourse.

True. Host the blog yourself from now on. Wordpress is great for that. AND you can customize.

Since there has been talk on blogs and adsense on this thread i'm just going to put this out there.

everyone needs to understand this: If you want to conduct business online and be taken seriously, invest in your own domain and paid hosting. Period.

If you can't invest even less than 100 bucks on your own business, how does that make you look?

Wordpress has specific rules against affiliate links and promotional things on their blogs. So, you are really chancing it with them. Blogger seems more open to that type of thing. But, I echo what most people say here and that is to build your "money site" on your own account/domain and use these web 2.0 properties as a way to control multiple spots on the search results, and to get strong links back to your site. Don't rely on them as your central point of promotion.

You certainly have the right attitude about it! Good for you!

I had my first squidoo lens locked (happily it was unlocked) and also some things deleted from a content site (so did a bunch of other writers). I am actually glad my lens was locked cus I dont plan to make anymore. Lesson learned. It was something I was experimenting with. Happily I have never relied on other sites but have been building my own.

When they decide to change the rules or whatever...it is there option. And you have no say in the matter no matter how hard you worked there.

The thing I wonder about is when you host your own site but are using wordpress...wonder if they could ever do anything there.

As has been stated. They can't touch you. One is a website that you sign up to in order to create a blog or blogs hosted by a Company called 'Wordpress'.

The other is open source code that can be used by anyone on their own hosting account, subject as has been stated, to the terms and conditions imposed by your web host provider.

If you have a webhost, log in to your Cpanel (control panel) and look for 'Fantastico', it usually has a smiling face

Fantastico allows one to install wordpress easily - and many other scripts too - all on your own web host.

        I hope that this helps,
        Regards,
        Jeff Henshaw.

Thanks again for the many replies. I think I will start with installing mu on my www.u12blog.com domain.

And my final advice to all the newbies out there:
Get your own domain and don't rely on the free wordpress for your advertising it will save you a lot of lost time and content!

    Good Luck

    And thanks again.
