Ever Been Downranked by Amazon?

This is a question for Amazon sellers: have you ever been downranked by Amazon following a change in their algorithm? I've seen this a lot with Google, but not with Amazon.

Thanks!

  • Make sure you are complying with all their requirements and keep your sales conversions up.

Ensure that your marketing strategy isn't impacting on your conversions.

Watch how you are linking to them.
  • Yes (as has any long term amazon seller).

I'm assuming you mean have our ranks gone down as well as up? Of course they have, it's the way ranking works. They rise. They fall. They rise again.

All of this despite our best efforts to have them rise only. It's normal ranking behaviour.

The implication in your statement is that it's possible to know when there is a change in the amazon algo. We don't. We guess. We speculate. But, we don't know for sure.

And, like google, we don't know what all the elements are that go to make up the amazon algo. Neither do we know each element's relative weighting. Again we can only speculate.

    Or...

Do you mean something different? Do you mean a massive fall in rank but with no factors that appear to merit this? (eg sharp drop in sales, running out of stock, etc).

If so, then i can tell you that, right now, amazon are getting very hot on a few things. This includes an overhaul regarding customer product reviews.

If they suspect anything wrong on reviews you are likely to pay the price in ranking. For example, many sellers using review sites to get customer reviews are likely to be very unhappy in the not-too-distant-future.

    Good luck with your ventures.

    • I have seen certain changes yes, but stick to the main selling techniques within and outside Amazon and you will be fine...Like high sales, good copy etc etc...
    • Zany,

Thanks for your reply. I meant more of the latter. I'm still early in the Amazon game, so I'm just beginning to see how similar and how different SEO is here than, say, Google.

      Much appreciated.

  • Hi Good day!

Yes being down ranked can also happen in amazon, especially if you break their rules. But not that much as google.

So it means to say that if you are penalized by amazon you really have done a very bad post.

Make sure to post high quality post.

    Thanks

    • Yes, if you don't keep up with sales conversions or change some of your marketing techniques. I didn't sell too long with them, it became too frustrating.
