What should I consider when picking a domain name?

Hey,

I am starting a new website and I need help picking a domain name. I have several ideas, but don't know if any of them offer better SEO results than the others. Should I focus on including keywords in the domain name? If there are multiple domains available with good keywords, should I purchase them all and then redirect the ones I don't use to the main site? Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Trep

For the most part, the keyword in your domain name won't offer you significant SEO advantage. The used to earlier, but google has since started focussing more on the content. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Focus on building a long term brand for yourselves when you select a domain. It is also very important to select a domain that would create the right expectations in the user. What I mean is that the content on your page should give the user what they expect after reading your domain name.

It should be unique so that it may not be confused with something else in similar niche - ensures a good recall value. Also, it helps if you can find a short but good domain name. It's easier to spell and remember.

And yes, do not bother about other non .com domains even if you're getting good names. Most people assume that the domain woudl be a .com and you don't want to loose traffice because of that.

    Hello there!

In picking a domain name you can pick the one that is very related to your site. For example your sites name is "domain name" you can use "domain.com or names.com" as long as it is related to your site name.

You can also conduct a keyword research in google so that you can identify which domain has been visited most by users.

It is very easy to use and very quick to do.

    Thanks

If you want a 'brand' that is timeless then go for a short, easy to spell, emotion triggering, image capturing brand name as your domain.

.Com gives your brand a strong image to your customers and is the most powerful truly global tld. If you are a local business then considering cctld for your country is a good choice to if you do not want a .com.

    Hi
The domain name don't really play a big roll in the SEO no more,
just pick a domain name with .com and the domain name keep it short simple and easy to remember and matches the niche your in.

Wish you the very best of luck

Just make it relevant to your niche, and has a close similarity with the product(s) or service(s) you're promoting. At the end of the day, your domain name won't make you rich - your marketing will.

Domain names are overrated these days, and I assume will begin even more less of an issue in terms of Google rankings.

Nothing beats good content and content relevancy/quality. Better to focus on these than the 1% effects like Domain names.

    I would focus on NICHE-SPECIFICITY.

Scalability, in terms of subject matter, is also important

On top of all this, make sure you pick something that is MEMORABLE

    This isn't an easy task.

It takes tons of ANALYSIS and SIFTING

Thankfully, I outsource this for all of $50 and I get a LOT of unregistered domain possibilities.

Domain names don't mean much in terms of SEO these days, being more like vanity plates on a car -- they mean more to the owner than anyone else.Consider Twitter, Zillow, Amazon, eBay, YouTube, and others. If you can find a name that relates to your site, by all means use it, and it might help people remember your site given that it hasn't become a household name yet, like Amazon.

yea, the branding is very important, but dont be fooled, if you add keywords it does help. I have seen link profiles of competitors with websites that had in their domain names a lot of geo modifies like keyword plus location. etc. anyhow, it matters. needless to say if your building a main site you should keep in mind the branding aspect. I think it helps greatly.

There are two rules to choose a domain name.
1 - It must be short.
2 - It must be easy to remember.
Everything else that you heard about domain names is nothing but myth.
