    Hi Techforce,

    Trust is vital. There are other considerations as well, so I'll shed some light.

    1. PEEK.

    Every mentor has a specialism. Some are expert in affiliate marketing; others in particular areas of affiliate marketing, like PPC, or something as specific as dating promotion; and, in general, for every area of IM, you have a collection of trusted mentors with "the right stuff" to teach that area.

    First, then, you need to decide on your area.

    Consider these:

    1. Passions.
    2. Experience.
    3. Expertise.
    4. Knowledge.

    Take a look around a resource like WF, and specifically, look for business models that appear - at least on the surface - to be a suitable match for your PEEK.

    And as you look around, make a short list of "potential models." It might take a day; could take a month. But when you're done, you should then be in a position to decide - for now - on just one business model.

    It could be, for example, any of the following:

    - Social Media Marketing
    - Affiliate Marketing for Gamers
    - List Building
    - Domain Flipping
    - Virtual World Business

    It could be anything. Depends on your PEEK.

    2. Mentor

    You should now be in a great position to seek out a suitable mentor.

    Some tips:

    1. (Obviously) They must be experts in your chosen area.
    2. If on WF, read their past posts. Such posts represent a resume.
    3. Do their testimonials appear to come from people who know what they're talking about?
    4. Is their website presented professionally?
    5. From reading their posts, do they appear to be the type of person you want to know?
    6. Likewise, does their writing indicate intelligence?
    7. Do they interview you as much as you interview them?
    8. Do they make you aware of everything prior to making a decision?
    9. Do they use hard-nosed call to actions? Or are they in demand enough to let you come to them when ready?
    10. Are they "also-ran" marketers, or do they have a special spark, that perhaps can be passed on to you?
    11. Are they realistic about what you should aim to achieve, or do they promote pipe-dreams?

    As far as prices go: they differ so wildly, it would be impossible to give you a realistic expectation. The question, however, isn't so much price itself - but, based on your research, does the price appear to offer value?

    I hope some of that helps!

    - Tom

    I wouldn't trust anyone on this site who "claims" to be a coach.

    Pretty words and flowery speech has nothing to do with experience.

    Be very wary...

      Research a mentor like you would any expensive purchase.

      When it comes to experience, especially, do they appear to really know their stuff? Do people - not just students, past and present - appear to respect their authority in the industry or - just as important - in a given area?

      In practical terms, you need to do your homework.

      - If they post on forums, read their past posts;
      - Read whatever information they've pushed out into the world.
      - Dig through testimonials;
      - Spend time researching an area yourself (PEEK);
      - Chat to the mentor about that area.

      Important: Do they use silly claims (massive income figures) to lure you in? Or do they keep things straightforward and practical? The fact is, even the best mentor in the world cannot claim to get you earning a single cent. The onus is on the student to implement. So. Don't be fooled - and I'm sure you won't be - by "pipe-dream sales." They run rampant in this industry.

      Ascertain, in short, if they're an authority. You want the "real deal."

      Whoever you choose, take note of the terms and duration of the mentorship.

      What's the setup--individual or group sessions?

      How long per session?

      How many sessions?

      Email correspondences apart from individual or group sessions?

      Other modes of instruction--videos and pdfs, videos only, pdfs only

      Is there a buyer's remorse provision in the agreement? Buyer's remorse meaning the coaching sucks.

      It's all up to you, after all, but a good coach/mentor makes a lot of difference.
