How was this website created? Was it all manually done do you think?

I was curious how you think this site came about and was created? Its behind the name dot com. Is there a way to find database of names and meanings and have it installed on your site or did the person have to look up every single one and add it to the site?

I was curious how hard it would to create a site like this or have one created?

Thanks,
Jason

Sorry it was late last night I was talking about Behindthename dot com. I was curious how hard it would be to create a site like this and how do you think he got all that info installed?

Is this something he looked up each one and entered all 20 thousand names or is there a way of importing data like that?

      Thanks,
      Jason

You can probably buy databases of name meanings.

If not, there are public domain works out there giving the same info - you'd need to hire someone to convert/type the data into a database or CSV file for importing.

If you had to go this route, amazon's mechanical turk service could be a good idea.

If you went through the site, you would have found this page:

Looks to be a pretty simple database-driven site. Template, database, done. Of course, getting the data in the first place is the hard part. If you can find a database, it's no huge deal to turn it into a site. If not, then you're going to the bookstore or library, buying/borrowing the information, and either typing it in yourself, or outsourcing to some data entry firm in India/Philippines.

Oh, I'm sorry, I think I misunderstood - you'd like to clone the site. In that case, no, I have no idea where you'd source such a database. Why don't you send an email to the site owner, asking them where they got the data? You never know, they may actually tell you.
