Amazon Authority Site, Should I bother?

Dear Warriors,

I've been a member around here for a while, never posted anything, I just familiarized my self with forum rules and guidelines, read posts and researched and researched some more.

I came to the conclusion if I want to build a sustainable online business that doesn't involve any shady black hat moves, I need to put real time and effort, don't look for quick profit and sacrifice in the short run for outstanding rewards in the long run as long as I have the commitment and discipline needed.

now, I'm about to make a decision to build an authority site in a specific niche that links back to Amazon product, it won't be your average review or comparison site. it would include tons of content that will be developed in time of course, I'll build my own email list to push my own future product as well.

I will use SEO and Paid traffic sources (on a tight budget of course) I understand the commission form amazon is low and cookies are for 24h only but the conversion rate is high, I need some expert opinion of people who went through this model to share their experience to shed light on what should I expect.

Also, I'm planning to blog frequently about my progress, I'll link my blog once it's up and ready in my signature for those who're interested to follow along and see if I make it or break it (I believe this is withing forum rules, please correct me if I'm wrong) however is there a section here I can post updates and seek advise on my progress?

Thank you
Mo.

I have used similar methods to promote a Clickbank(not Amazon) product, because an info product fitted my niche very well. I had plans to create my own products and sell them via the authority site too, I still haven't come to that though. But overall, it's a method that works. I have not touched the site since a few months and I still make affiliate sales from free traffic only.

An authority blog/site takes time to build. So, at first you would have to push yourself to stay motivated as you may not see any sales. But do track everything you can, tweak and improve while still adding more content.

All the best. Hope to follow your progress here soon.

First of all, congratulations because you sound full of energy and want to take action. This is a great starting point.

Building an authority site is a great model nowadays because Google loves authority and lots of useful content. Proper Keyword research is the foundation for all of this. You need to find long-tail, low-competition keywords and create lengthy content around them. By creating lengthy and useful content for the readers, Google will reward you with traffic for lots of other keywords as well.

Your plan is solid. I know because that is what I do myself.

If you choose your niche right then you can and should be promoting info products(clickbank) as well as physical products (amazon) to your list and on your site.

This way you diversify your income sources and you also diversify your traffic sources.

That's a recipe for a long lasting and sustainable business online.

        Good luck.

Buy Erica Stone's (Sojourn on WF) Extreme Review. it's the only guide you'll need.

Having said that have the expectation of making nothing, or a very small amount, for the first few months. As your content grows so will your traffic and sales.

I can second Erica Stone's WSO, it was fantastic and when I ran my Amazon Affiliate experiment this book helped a lot.

I wouldn't personally focus solely on Amazon sales anymore. It's not that there's anything wrong with the strategy - it can certainly work, but I think you can make more with the same amount of effort by just building a business around a certain type of person. Amazon can certainly be a good chunk of monetizing that business, but I think it's important to have a good backend and additional products to upsell. It's generally easier to get the same person to buy multiple products than to find more buyers.

I created a review site for a niche product I am into just for a side project. I invested about £800 into it and it makes about £40 a month these days (haven't added any content in nearly a year so that has dropped a lot).

But I could have carried on with it to make some great passive income. We even built up a social following, which I could have used to purchase some stock to get myself even more from each sale.

The point is, yes you can still make money from an Amazon authority site. But just don't focus on the Amazon part. Just make an Authority site, and monetise it with Amazon until you can sell your own products. Think for the long term.

also you can add clickbank and jvzoo banners and etc for products similar to your niche, so you aren't limited to amazon

I have built several Amazon review sites over the past few years and although they have had their ups and downs they remain a strong part of my income today with minimal work put in.

So put in the time and persistence and you should see that the rewards are well worth the effort down the track.

Consider marketing your content to other sites and relevant online/offline publications. By strategically placing your articles in venues frequented by your targeted prospects, you can generate massive amounts of highly convertible traffic at a fraction of the time of SEO ranking and at a fraction of the cost of paid traffic. In addition, there is no better way (in my not so humble opinion) to quickly establish an authoritative presence, particularly in highly competitive niches, than demonstrating your expertise by writing for authoritative publications.
