Am I on the Right Track? New, Confused, but Reading...

I am very frustrated with my current business / profession. I want to build a business that is scale able, automatable, and will create passive income. I am reading, reading, reading. I am trying to get away from paralysis by analysis. I want to do something even if it wrong!

1. I am going to build a blog site that will have content about the niche I have 20 years experience in. I will write articles. (I am reading and digesting the all in one on this subject.)

2. I am working on an eBook, guide for this niche. I hope to sell it or give it away, whatever will help me to make progress. I am not sure if I give it away for list building, or sell it?

3. Most of my online efforts have been through eBay so far. I hope to figure out how to sell things elsewhere ASAP.

4. My greatest confusion is how to make money, how to actually see $$$$.

If you follow 1 and stick at it, you should be able to start bringing in some money

I would advise you to stop reading so much. Get a list of what you need to know, learn those things and then start acting.

I would say you need to learn the ins and outs of building a list before you move on. Learn that first and you are good to go and will have much less pressure on yourself while you learn the million and 5 other things you need to learn to succeed online.

But yes, seems like you are on the right track! Keep going bud! If you take action every single day, how can you fail?

Good so far. I agree with digging in and doing number 1 until you are amazing at it.

As far as your ebook, it depends on how "thick" it is. Sometimes people get to writing big tomes and throw everything they know into one book.

But maybe it can be divided up a bit. A 5-15 page introductory ebook that gives maybe 3 overarching principles (just an idea) as your Lead Magnet (free offer for optin). Then the rest of the material you would have put in the book, maybe make a workbook and/or video course with increasing levels of knowledge as your first product (in your funnel).

    Heavens to Mergatroid...

My advice would be to skip the e-book.

You need to fire up the video. Nobody wants
    to read anymore.

Notice how websites have few words and
    a lot of pictures?

Do you think YouTube became famous
    sharing e-books?

Take your niche and record it in video and not
    an e-book.

I know, I know... there are still people making a
killing with the written word but video is the key.

You may want to include an ebook for list building but using Youtube videos to be part of your marketing makes a lot of sense. Youtube is actually a very large search engine, second behind Google I think.

I first focus on analyzing my habits and of those I know. YouTube is my go to for anything I want to learn. I'm not an inventor I am more of an improver. I see ways to make things more user friendly, better suited, or more organized. Most of my success has been doing what successful people have already done and improving it or tweeting it.

This is all good, points 1-3, and I am glad you have some actual knowledge.

Now before you go start creating all this content...

    Go find your AUDIENCE.

WHO is interested in your topic?

WHERE do they gather online now? This is where you can engage with them and start drawing them over to your site later. When I started on WF I spent 3 months just answering questions. Show them you know your stuff.

WHAT are they going to get from you that is valuable? What problems do they admit to having that you can fix?

Make sure these problems aren't issues only you think are important. They, the potential customers, have to agree these are important problems that need fixing, too!

Yet many people go make a product (look in the SaaS field) before checking whether it's solving an issue anyone else other than the creator thinks is important.

What will your market pay you to solve for them? Can you make a living with that?

Find these things out before you start creating content. It'll give you the focus you're looking for.

Thank you all who have replied. I have a little more clarity every day on what I am doing. This is a great forum and incredible resource. As I wade through the options and see what others are doing I see the big picture more clear.

Damn it I cant just build a web site over the weekend and fly to the islands where my money will pour in, GO FIGURE!!!

That is the direction I am heading. I have 22'x22' garage/warehouse with an attached 11'x22' office. This is going to be where I work from. I tried from home and having kids and a family really makes it impossible for me. It will be a multi-function area.

      * First it allows me to focus even if only a couple hours per day solely on building my business and passive income. With no distractions. When I am at home I am a Dad first and foremost. Working with a three year old on my lap is not effective.

      * Second it allows me to be highly organized and efficient. Sourcing product in quantity to resell online, retail arbitrage, wholesalers, etc. Shelving, packing, shipping, photography, and an office. I want to do Amazon FBA and need more space to operate than I have at home.

      * Third the rent is affordable and allows me the flexibility to do other things that are profitable that I don't currently have room to do.

      * Fourth I have never had problems making money. I just have always done it through hard work and long hours. I need to continually find new clients. A roof lasts 30+ years, concrete 50+, I want to build something different. I will. I want passive income and scale ability, and crossover.

In the end I have to continue doing what I do. I will build this over years. I am in no hurry or crunch. I am willing to make mistakes if they are learning experiences. Solid foundation, good positioning, look for opportunities, capitalize on them when I see them.

Have you tried using affiliate marketing to sell products from your niche on your blog? 20 years experience is pretty impressive by the way.
I just started out also and I've decided to jump onto the affiliate marketing bandwagon

Find a niche that has a demand, then give them what they're looking for. You need a good free ebook that can teach you the super basics. Go to the War Room and start learning, and start implementing. Don't just build a blog and write a book just for the sake of doing so. You'll wind up with a book and go around asking, "who can i sell this too?"
