How to Create Authority In Your Niche?

Hi.. I am wondering how do you build credibility if no one knows who you are or just starting out?

Now also if you have Authority and are an expert in your niche IF nobody can find you, then Authority isn't any good....

If I understand this Authority and Attracting Attention go together. For example, on Social Media I can use Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to brand my company and create Authority. By using Social Media, I can maximize my own Authority by using tools and technology that my customers are using.

So doesn't using the right technology also create authority in the minds and eyes of my customers?

thanks...

You are confusing Authority and Expertise/Experience. Using the "right" tech doesn't give you Authority in and of itself. Using the right tech skilfully is a step in the right direction.

As for starting out as an unknown, the easiest way to gain Authority is to borrow it. That's why things like meaningful blog commenting, guest blogging, interviews with recognized Authorities, and so on are so popular.

If you land a guest post on, say, Copyblogger, you get the tacit recognition and approval of Copyblogger. By publishing your guest post, they are in effect saying, "Hey, this guy has something worth paying attention to."

    John,

The best way I know to create authority in a niche is through your content and what you offer within the niche.

First of all, it helps to have experience or education or training in the subject. It allows you to "speak the language" and understand the technical terms. You will know some of the issues, problems, and history or what the niche participants are going through.

When you create new, unique, and valuable information (content) for the niche participants, they will begin to recognize that you really know what you're talking about. They will begin to trust you and listen to other things you say. They will buy upon your recommendation and follow the links that you suggest.

When you deliver content, focus on making your articles and reports different than other things you've already seen (other people's content). Many so called "content creators" simply regurgitate what they read from other people . . . don't do that. Write articles that are 1,200-2,000 words and that are well researched. Make them meaningful, original, and of specific issues or events that are current and in the niche news. Don't just gloss over subjects. Don't always write the general overviews that so many people resort to. Write in-depth and powerful content that people can use and rely on. When you do that, you will be seen as an authority.

Just one word of caution. Don't just put your content on your web site and call it good. You must market your content . . . meaning distribute it within the niche. When the most popular, most authoritative, most trafficked sites in your niche display your content, then you will be seen as a true authority. So you must market what your create and get it carried, re-published, and offered to the niche through the true niche "big guns."

If your content is value, original, and timely, you shouldn't have any trouble getting great sites to use it. They clamor for relevant, original and helpful information for their own web sites and newsletters.

I hope this all makes sense. It's not an overnight thing - gaining authority takes time. But if you're careful to always offer great content, it won't take long before people in the niche begin to recognize you. Why? Because so few site owners take the time and effort to do what I'm suggesting. You will stand out and make a name for yourself in no time.

    The best to you all,

    Steve

    It's not complicated.
    • Know the niche.
    • Find people interested in learning the niche.
    • Help people on public webpages.
    • Brand yourself/business.

It's not enough to help individuals in private. When you help people on public webpages there's 100s/1,000s of similar people watching the process.

You have to demonstrate value and expertise in every area in your niche. This is NOT necessary to make money online in *whatever* niche, but if you want to "take over"... you have to become, sound, and prove that you're an expert. You can do this in a variety of ways:

    - Free ebook that is extrememly helpful
    - Lots of views everyday on Youtube (and great advice of course)
    - Podcasts
    - Content
    - Affiliates
    - Resell rights of old product material you have (but are still relevant and STILL good)
    - A large and great email following (and great info)
    - Get sales (of course), and backend sales
    - etc.

I wouldn't worry about the authority part right now though. Just make the money, pay bills, grow the business, and live a great life.

When I first got started online I had no idea what I was doing and I ended up with an authority site in google's eye's....

It's cool when you see your domain in the serps and multiple pages as sub categories underneath.

I don't know much about authority, But it is important
I think unique content and linking to highly authorised websites will be the name of the game. And that's what I am trying to do these days.

Thank you all. It seems to me that building Authority is really just the Perception of your target market.

I have Experience but if I can not create the Perception then I have no Authority, am I getting this right?

I have knowledge and so I am looking for the glue that holds my value together. So to create Authority that means I must demonstrate my Expertise.

Okay, here is a simple summary from some of the wisdom on this thread

    1.) Demonstrate Experience
    2.) Guest posting
    3.) Ranking niche keywords
    4.) Interview experts, podcasts...
    5.) Offer great content

    thx

Make it simpler. Skip numbers 2-4, and demonstrate your expertise by offering great content to authoritative online/offline publications. People reading those publications will find you.

    Authority perceived is authority achieved.

Become well known on a forum in that niche. Be sure to use the same username and avatar, so people notice you when you post in other places. After 1000+ posts on a popular forum, start your own site, and your followers might join you.

Study, Research, Study, Research, Study, Research until you know it backwards and forward.
Then when you think you know it backward and forward what do you do ??? Study, Research, Study, Research , study, research lol

My point is find something that you have some excitement with and hopefully some knowledge about and find a way to keep increasing your knowledge about it...Ultimately offering this knowledge to those wanting to solve a problem and who will sacrifice to learn more about it.

But Authority is gained over time and will keep getting larger and larger as you Study, Research, Study, Research ..etc....
