    No, that doesn't seem right.

How large is/are the source file/s you're using? Even 4 minutes of hi-res animation shouldn't be that big.

I use the "baby brother" version, Sony Movie Studio 13 and a half-hour 3D video game rendering comes out at under 2MB. The source file, recorded by Fraps directly from the game, can be 40MB though.

Check your rendering and output settings. Are you using an accelerator like OpenCL?

Rendering IS going to take time...about twice as long or so than the finished product...a 1-hour gameplay walkthrough vid will typically take 2 hours of rendering and then 3-4 hours of uploading and processing time for Youtube.

But a 4-minute vid ought to be done rendering in 10 minutes and not be that bloated a file.

Hey Jason thanks for reply. Source file is about 300 mb. Rendering time is normal but I think 20 Gb Avi file is not normal! Also, no sound in video. I'm using Vegas Pro 11. Render settings; HD 1080-60i (1920x1080; 29,970 fps) - Video for windows avi, 720*60p YUV

AVI uses very little or no compression. This is like BMP format vs JPG when it comes to images.
AVI vs MP4 , difference between AVI and MP4 format

Try rendering mov or mp4 file (h.264 compression is possible)
    MP4 vs H.264, difference between MP4 and H.264 format

I ran a quick test. I rendered a 45 second video in Vegas Pro 13.
#1 AVI file, HD 720-60p YUV. Result: render time 52 seconds, file size 4.90GB
#2 MP4 file, HD 1080p, Variable bit rate (Max. 24M, avg. 12M bps). Result: render time 5 minutes, file size: 79MB

Avi renders much faster, which is obvious because there is no compression, file size is about 60 times bigger.

Try Render as... -> MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4) -> Internet HD 720 (or 1080) and click "Customize Template..." to set frame size, frame rate and bit rate.
