If it's so easy why doesn't everyone do it?

Today I had this conversation with my cousin and it will forever change the way I think about people in this world and make me stop feeling bad for A LOT of people.

Here's how the conversation went:

Her: So what have you been doing everyday?
Me: I work, I know you guys think I just sit in starbucks playing on my computer but I actually make money online everyday.
Her: Oh okay. Do you make a lot?
Me: Not compared to other people I know but I make about $200 a day.
Her: WOW! That's a lot! I wish I could make that much money per day.
*Mind you this cousin is not wealthy whatsoever.*
Me: Yeah but it took a while for me to get everything set up to where I am at now.
Her: Oh, I could never make that much.
Me: You can, I'll show you how!
Her: No, I really dont think I can...
Me: OK.

-----------------------------------------------

Why did I just say "OK" instead of trying to encourage her and teach her how to make money? Because no matter what, if someone isn't motivated and willing to take massive action, THEY WON'T ACHIEVE ANYTHING. I, personally am DONE trying to help people who wont take action when they have an opportunity right in front of them. I have had SO many people tell me things like:

"What you're saying is crazy"
"How could that possibly make money? You're being ridiculous"
"You're too young, you need to stop being so impatient"
"You need to go to school and get a good job."

Well what did I say to all of that?

F THAT.

I'm going to forge my own path, I'm going to go against the grain. I'm not going to survive, I'm going to thrive. So when I see people who are clearly struggling but are too stubborn or too afraid to try something new. Too afraid to give themselves no option but success. Too afraid to be a success after years of being a failure. Those are the people I realize are where they are because of no one's fault but their own and to those people, keep doing you. Because us action takers need people like you to line our pockets.

If it's so easy, why doesn't everyone do it? You fu***** tell me
#easy

I have come across a similar conversation before although not exactly the same. But I think it is true, If it's so easy, why doesn't everyone do it?

Although the Gurus make us truly believe that it is easy, it really is not as you can tell your self-being someone making $200 a day.One must first have the drive before even taking action. Maybe making money through this media is just not her thing. I guess what I am saying is it's not easy, and it's not for everyone.

      Online marketing is not easy.
It's simple but definitely not easy. First of all, most newbies never take action. Secondly, if they do take action they quit after failing only 1-2 times. These are the main reasons why most people don't make any money online.

Most people lack focus and jump from one product to another or give up after one or two attempts. The secret to life is to fall down eight times and get up nine.

As Henry Ford said “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.” If you believe in yourself and stay motivated, put in the time, learn from your mistakes and learn from those that have already succeeded then there is money to be made online.

        Hi
I agree with you and also disagree at the same time. What you said is true but what i believe in marketing is easy but newbies make it difficult for them self.

They actually come in to the market thinking they will get rich over night which is not true...
As you and many marketers who are making money will know that mindset is the biggest play in any marketing or business Niche..

What i mean by that is having the right mindset will get you to work smarter.
Because you know you need to brand and get your word out there and we also know that there is a lot of testing and tweaking done in our business.

Newbies don't get that, and think that you get in, choose a affiliate product and send people to the affiliate link.

When that does not work, and doing a bit of research they realize that the money is in the list..

When they start to build a list then they spam their list with different products, and that don't work for them either.

This gets them to quit and they don't really have the patience you need to see your business work out.

Its all a learning process and a lot of testing which many refuse to go through and leave very quick...

They failed but then have the excuse of its a scam or this is hard or its impossible to do or that these people making money are not sharing this magical SECRET button.

SO HAVING KNOWLEDGE IS VERY IMPORTANT AS WELL AS THE RIGHT MINDSET WHICH MANY PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO LEARN BEFORE STARTING OUT.
MY ADVICE FOR ALL NEWBIES TO START FROM BASIC ON MINDSET FIRST BEFORE MOVING ON TO BECOMING A MILLIONAIRE OVER NIGHT

That really is big reason, always to early to quit, people dont have enough patience.Hard work pays though in the end.

I tend to think, people need to differentiate - tune, fine tune, big tune, rethink strategy. And When Feeling Down.. just buy some time..and again come back... it works. It worked ! Quitting is thinking "Black And White"... Once that's fixed... then no matter how slow.. progress can be made. and once you reach $200, you tend to think... ehh..that wasn't that hard.. (If i Hadn't done this and this :-))

IM is not easy, it requires many set skills. You either have them or you don't.
If you don't, you either learn them or you quit. That's about it.
If you're tough, stubborn, willing to learn, and not give up, you'll get there.

But no, the "gurus" showing off how easy it will be for some newbie to step
into their shoes, with no training and no skills is not realistic.

Create your own company, learn how to brand yourself and your company,
and believe in what your online company does. Just like a land based business.
    If you build it.....
    They will come.

Have a great day toward your online success !

I don't tell people this is easy. I tell them it takes work. With that said, I've come to realize the same thing when it comes to people with a certain mentality. There are always going to be people that prefer to gripe and complain about their situation rather than do something about it. I've noticed that the same people who complain about the work it takes to make money online also complain about having to go to school to get an education and all sorts of stuff. Their mentality affects how they perceive the world and every aspect of their lives. I don't have time to deal with these people on a constant basis. It's just draining.

Being able to make money online has never been easier, I mean we can throw a website together using WordPress with little experience following tutorials on YouTube in no time.

We have all the socials to use for promotion and getting traffic.

What is difficult and some people just don't seem to be able to do this, is almost un program the mind and stick to fingers up to everything we was taught from a very young age turning us all into sheep.

Self discipline when you don't have a boss cracking the whip is difficult but we stick at it and learn. I still have family members look at me stupidly when they ask me to do something and I say sorry no I'm working.

All they see me doing is messing about on my laptop. They even see me in Facebook so I must just be fooling around as that's all people do on Facebook isn't it. They have no clue about any other way to use Facebook, YouTube or other social medias.

Mindset is the battle. I know my retired parents could easily earn a little extra money from very little work online but they aren't interested. I know for a fact they want and need the money but have no desire to even at least give it a go, or even let me show them how simple I can make it for them to make that extra money.

What is crazy is my retired dad spends hours on and off his laptop through out the day. You need a strong reason WHY to totally focus on earning online.

It is difficult if you aren't prepared to put the effort in. Put the effort in and earning online is easy.

I agree with so many of the posts here. The problem like was stated in the last post is people are brainwashed! People believe that being successful is some mystery game. It's NOT and it pisses me off that people can't see that, especially my family. If you wanna be successful study what successful people do and do it everyday, PLUS MORE. It is literally that simple. Wake up people

You will always come across people like this. That's just the nature of the game. You just gotta know when to walk away and leave them be.

This post reminds me of 2 friends of mine who are the same way. Both of them are really struggling and complain about not having this or that. They know I make money online and could show them but they don't want to learn. I tried to tell them I have a simple way I could get them earning money using their cellphones which I see them on constantly. But one told me that she "doesn't have time to do that" - but then you turn around and she is texting on Facebook immediately and all day long, everyday too.

With the other friend, I told her I could show her a way to earn extra money if she has a cell phone with internet. (I know she doesn't have a computer). She said, "Of course I have a cellphone with internet". I said well then if you have at least $80 and your cellphone, I can get you making some money and help with some of these issues you've been having". This chic has been really struggling for a looong time. She said, "I am leary of anything that requires upfront money". I said, "$80 is not a lot of money to start a business, believe me", She said, "No, thanks - I'm good".

Now being a friend of mine, I know the struggles and money problems this gal has been dealing with for a long time and she is NOT GOOD! I even offered to pay the $80! So, I was trying to help her but her mind-frame is one of "this must be some kind of scam thing" and she is not used to anything like that so she immediately shut off from it.

But Iangh is right: you have to have a strong enough "WHY", or you will find excuses not to do something you know you need to find a solution for. And a lot of people that us IMers come across are just like that so all you can do is politely say "OK, at least I told you about it - have a good day!" When these 2 friends of mine are still struggling with the same exact issues 1-5 years down the road, and they will be, then my conscience is clear knowing I at least tried to help them with that but they refused to even listen.

For many people, making money online in any fashion is absolutely foreign to them so they just dismiss it completely as something they can't do themselves. They say things like, "That's great for you because you're really smart but I couldn't do that!". Little do they know that my dog could do what I do! LOL.

But nowadays, when I come across people like this, I no longer get angry about it (I used to). Now I feel sorry for them because they will never be able to get past the excuses they create for themselves and that's sad!

All this tells me is that they are not the right kind of people to do what I do so I just let them be and move on to others who are. So rather than getting upset about it, just know that we are a special breed and it takes a certain kind of person to do what we do!

Like Jim Rohn says, "If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse."

As I always tell people who ask me that it is very Simple but NOT Easy. And there is a huge difference !

Most of the people in this World match perfectly with the mentality of your friend ( the girl)

I have relatives and friends who react the same way.

It is advantageous that we have those people who are the Wage Slaves.

IM is a business like any business. It takes a lot of hard work and effort before you even begin to see any return on that. I think it's a difficult mindset for someone to get in that may just be used to clocking in, clocking out and making a set wage. With social media marketing, people really have a hard time wrapping their mind around it, but hey, we're proving them wrong.

On a side note, that is why when you are selling an online opportunity
you should give a range of possibilities, such as "make $50, $100 or
even $500 per day" because even if it is TRUE some people cannot
bring themselves to believe it is possible FOR THEM.

Look, the problem is simple to understand.

Most people have zero experience with formal selling, right? I mean, they know how to get Mom to let them have a cookie, that kind of basic selling, but getting in front of adults and making an offer to exchange something in return for cold hard cash?

    No way.

    So let's start with that.

    Willy-nilly weak-kneed panic about selling.

    And that's in the background.

Then, in the foreground, here you are saying, "Oh, it's easy...you just do this stuff online that you've never heard of"--I know, they've heard of a website, but how many people have seen the dashboard or programming side of one? WE'RE immersed in this environment, but the Average Joe ain't--"and people come to you and GIVE YOU MONEY!"

    Tah-dah.

And what do you expect your conversation partner to do?

    Fall on their ass?

Everything is SO FAR OUT OF RANGE of their experience, and they have no information in their heads about how this stuff works, that you're telling them you set this black box up and it prints money.

OF COURSE they are going to come back extremely skeptical about it.

    Duh.

Add to that most people are simply not cut out to be their own boss, don't have the responsibility and stick-to-itiveness for it, don't have the resourcefulness for it (and I mean "go to Youtube to look up the solution for your problem"-level resourcefulness...they can't even do that)...

    Again, where's the surprise here?

OP, instead of trying to convert others, spend your time and energy on people who ALREADY BELIEVE in themselves.

People who demonstrate they can define and solve their own problems.

    You'll have a better time.

They believe to make great money you have to go to college...

And that Rich people are Born rich or they are way different than poor people.

When you say "Make Money From The Internet" they think that means that the actual internet is paying you and on your check it says "Internet"

They cant fathom that you can use the internet to reach people to promote products, affiliate products, or services to them.

      Its sad

Sometimes or most of the times, people associate success in online business to a mere "luck". When somebody's website was sold to Facebook at a cost amounting to millions, or an IM developed an app that went viral and downloaded millions of times, or if an online marketer is making few hundred dollars a day - people just call them "lucky *******s" then goes on to say "if I'm only that lucky"... To me, this is quite an insult. They have no idea about the process behind an IM's success. Although luck may have some roles sometimes, lucky IM's are not "lucky *******s", they are a real player of the game. They have process that not many have the guts and will to do it!

I couldn't agree more. I've met many people in the past few years and that make me really understand how people are different.... When you offer things that could earn them more money or even change their lives. Some say yes and some say no.

Many people want to earn more or change their life but not everyone is willing to work hard to achieve it. They don't want to get out of their comfort zone doing things which they never do and be a failure. And that's why people who never afraid of failure have more chance to be successful. Successful people fail many times to get just one success. And that's enough.

Moreover, it's not just about not afraid of being failure but it's all about successful personality.

I will share you a story which I learnt from one of my mentor.

I'm offering you $1 Million and all you have to do is to wake up at 3 AM everyday for 30 days just to push a button of elevator at the building which is far from your home around half an hour. The condition is that you have to push it at only 3 AM sharp and if you miss it just for a minute or 10 seconds in any day you will not get that $1 Million anymore.

Who do you think you can do it? I think everyone can do that of course! Just pushing the elevator button to get a million, how simple it is...

Do you believe there will be people who will decide not join this contest even just to try? They think they can't make it for sure. "I can't wake up at 3 AM since it's too early..."

Do you believe there will be people who will join it and do everything to make this successful?
    - If their home is far from that building for an hour or 10 hours, they will move to the building around there just to attend this contest and win it.
    - Some will set alarm clock at 2.30AM, 2.45AM, 2.50AM, 2.55AM, 2.57AM, 2.58AM, and 2.59AM just to make sure they will not miss it.
This group of people get rid off any condition which will make them not being successful.

Do you believe there will be people who will make it just for 3 days, 5 days, 7 days or 10 days and miss it?

And do you believe there will be people who will get this $1 Million for sure?

It's about human nature. Some were born to be successful, some not to be, and they only choose it themselves. We always get what we deserve.

If it's so easy, why doesn't everyone do it? I hope this answers everything.

    Hi Eric:

Sadly, many people believe that making money is somehow dirty or wrong. Yesterday, a guy was asking if selling products on his you tube channel was OK because he wanted to line up some sponsors. Sadly, he still believes we must all remain poor. Well, hard work often yields success. However. you need to set goals and then work hard to attain success.

Frankly, we cannot have much progress if we believe what we are doing is wrong. People who have clear goals tend to do better because they know where they are going. Also, it gets more competitive out here each passing year. Books that did great on Kindle five years ago. Well, they do not cut it now. All warriors need to up their game. It is not just on amazon. Like we see across the board a big push to pay less and get more. Expect this trend to drive down prices.

It's like ANY business. It's easy to get started but it's the execution and following it through that's difficult.

Any one can rent a shop but will they get customers, do they know what they're going to sell, how are they going to market, what will make them stand out, what will they do to keep customers returning and buying in future, what will they do to combat refunds etc...

We IMers do that but online. It's easy to throw up a website but that's just the start. It's why most people in the world work for the person who owns that shop. They lack the focus, drive or ambition.

      100% this.
You can say it's easy to play a guitar, or start plumbing, but you'd have to sit and learn the necessary skills before you'd perform to a crowd or fit a new boiler.
I am always under the impression people just want a takeaway approach to working online, they just want to set up a site, do the bare minimum, maybe throw a little money and expect 1000's to come flying in.

Yep it is same mentality with people when they are given a FREE product versus given a PAID Product. They can be the EXACT same product but people will just discount the importance of the FREE one because...well its free

forget your cousin, forget my cousins, the guy who said it was a scam and anybody else who wants to talk "noise" about making money for yourself

these people are heavily programmed and conditioned to believe that being a "good boy", "being on time" and "doing what the boss says" is the best chance of doing well in life

a message that has been drummed in to the minds of the masses for decades through T.V (You should never watch TV) school and other conditioned members (family, friends, colleagues)

"if you dont get good grades and show up on time...you wont get a very good job"

its just a "system" to always keep the little guy climbing the ladder, never growing, never prospering, just years of slaving and then you die

    guess morpheus was right.....

but if nobody has the common sense to ask the question, "all the other people who went through school and got a job are broke and struggling, so why would it be different for me?"

.....then they ain't cut from the right cloth and they need to get a job

to people who broke away from this poisonous mentality and are making money for themselves or are trying to make it work

    Then I salute you

I don't think I have ever had so much trouble and failed at something so much like I have in IM. However the few successes I've had, have probably made me more money than 99% of people who give this whole IM business a go. It's so not easy.

    Eric,

I understand your frustration, but everyone needs to live their life on their own terms . . . not yours.

Only a very small percentage of people in this world have the tools, the temperament, the patience, and the ambition necessary to be successful owners of their own business.

Many want the freedom, money, and lifestyle of the Internet but not the other side of the coin (the work, the risk, the commitment, and often the lack of a clear cut plan to get there). The 95% failure rate (or whatever the number is) of IMers is there for a reason.

The takeaway from this thread for me, at least, is that IMers should focus their effort and resources on targeted prospects . . . those that actually want and have qualified themselves for what you're selling!

Don't try to create demand. You can't push your prospects into wanting something that they aren't committed to. Nurture the non-buyers along with your email marketing if you can, but just let them go their way once you have given them every opportunity to open their wallet.

If you've created a quality business in a money niche, you will have more than enough prospects to keep you in business.

The best to all of you,

    Steve

Simple does not mean easy. The process is simple. Do this, do this, do that, make money.

The journey from point A to Z is a pain in the ass, with huge technical learning curves, then the psychology behind the marketing, learning how to tune out all the gurus, overcoming themselves to be able to make it happen, and a wide range of other problems.

Simple? Yes. Easy? If it was easy, everyone would do it. Thankfully it's not. ;D

Some people love their 9-5 job. It's always something that they dreamt about.

    - Wearing the professional suit or outfit everyday
    - Being seen driving around in their nice car
    - Having people look at them and their "success"
    - Being well-known in the "industry"
    - Receiving awards and raises from the boss
    - The thought that a job/*career* is REAL financial security (and not an internet business)
    - To be adored by friends and family by their home, lifestyle, and job title

All of that.... even if they only make $35,000 a year at their job.

Very Interesting, lots of great opinions and some great information too, My two cents, ?

Making money online is not for everyone, )

True, some people still consider the Internet to be some kind of Voodoo, that will corrupt your mind if your not careful, LOL.

Making money online should be easy but there is a barrier to getting it done fast, its a basic thing that a lot of people tend to focus on and some not nearly enough.

    KNOWLEDGE...

You can read an ebook or an article, you can spend time doing first hand research, but until you have a certain level of experience it can be difficult to know just where to get started.

I think a lot of people find that is one of the biggest problems, learning and gaining enough knowledge to be able to apply that to a product or service.

Experience is probably the number one issue that keeps people from experiencing success online.

    something to think about.

Online marketing is definitely NOT EASY but it is SIMPLE ...

Here are some things you need to seriously consider:

    * Take action!
    * Treat it like a business - not a hobby!
    * Focus!
    * There is need for a self discipline!
    * Practice everyday consistency!
    * Be always willing to learn! (it could take some time)

But most of all - Believe in yourself !!!

    Hope this helps.

      I love this post.

Well, I guess I was one of those people for many years...I did have this vague feeling I wanted to do something online, but I hadn't heard of internet marketing or anything like that and it was all too unknown and weird and I wasn't motivated enough to even bother looking it up.

Then literally, over the space of a few months everything changed. Basically I realised I did not want your regular 9-5 and if I wanted to work online, I'd have to put everything I could into learning about it and be completely committed to that.

BUT there were plenty of times where I would lose my nerve and want to retreat back into "normal" life. But I started to get more of a desire to succeed when I've seen what other people have done and just decided I had no choice but to keep at it.

I've come to realise that so many people just do not think they can have their own business - whether online or off anyway. Many do not have the self discipline or else it's a confidence issue or they're worried about losing money etc...so they stick to what is safe. I guess sticking to what is "safe" is a pretty natural thing for most.

The reason behind this is the same as why everyone knows how to lose weight, yet there's an obesity epidemic going on.

Knowing what to do is not enough.

Most people have become so habitualised in their normal routines and ways of thinking that anything which requires change or effort is a problem.

When someone believes they will fail - they'll make it true.

There's no point in wasting effort trying to convince people who are not prepared to work to care about the details of the work they're not going to do.

Some people new to IM like the idea of making money online but are not yet ready to take the action or change their mindset about it. That's fine, it's just a waste of time trying to treat them like they are ready.

You'll know when you meet people who WILL take action because they blow you away with how product they are and how quickly they jump on the next task. Most people prefer to talk about what they should do - but not actually do it. If they're also convinced it won't work - then they'll do nothing but waste your time.

Help the people who want to help themselves and leave the rest to someone else - there are a LOT of people who love the sound of their own voice and love to have people to tell what to do.

So your folks think you are a professional coffee drinker too? That's cool, heard that one already.

Latest pearl from my mom: "have you been hacking anything lately?". Priceless. Mind you that I am not even that good with technology...

A little bit off-point but wanted to share this as it came to mind when I read the dialogue.

As for your thread idea: you need to put in the hours, constantly. It's just like any other job really, difference being you need to make your own income. I never worked so much as I work now but people seem to think I am free at all hours. Takes a little time to convince people that you do have a full-time job.

I know many people who would love to do what I do but only because what they believe it brings me: flexibility (some, not much), no boss (I am a worse boss to myself than my previous bosses put all together), staying at home/coffee house all day (I would actually prefer a normal office some days).

However I don't know a single one that I believe could do what I do (or succeed for that matter).

    Big difference.

IM it's not easy. One of the problems is that beginners waste their time with all those "money making methods". Trying method after another method and buying useless crap from self-proclaimed gurus.

There is no easy and fast method to make money online. If there existed then why in the world would someone sell it for $9.99. as a PDF. You have to work hard and smart too.

You're totally right Jeff. If you want to follow a Guru, actually reach out to them and see what kind of person they are. If they are an ass, don't buy their products.

Interesting Thread. I have been on both sides of the IM world. Well everyone has. Two years back back I was a newbie. Now I am on other side. Well, yes, I come from IT background, and IM got me hooked when I saw Pat Flynn's blog, and ever since.. I am learning and fine tuning. And yes, Until I actually saw the money flowing in, I was skeptical. But being skeptical wasn't an excuse for me not to try... so here I am, scripting my story! :-) Interesting Thread indeed.

Firstly it's not easy its always a challange no matter if your making $5 a day or $5000 a day.
Second people are afraid of change.
Your cousin may love to be earning like you, but the thought of doing all that work in the beginning with no return and no guarantees is scary. It's alot easier to go to work slave away and get paid than to work on your own business.
    Just my opinion.

I can relate to that. Now I just don't even bother and I simply just distance myself from people who are negative. It seems that some people are brainwashed into thinking that there is only one way to earn money and that is with a boss and cash for hours and they they can't see past it. They down everything else as a scam and laugh at others who try and make it online, Shame really.

People are indoctrinated from the time they can walk and talk that they need a college education and a B&M job with benefits to be successful. I get the same stuff when I tell people I'm a freelance writer. The conversation usually goes something like this:

    What do you do?
    I'm a freelance writer.
Oh, that sounds like fun. What do you write?
It's not fun. It's a job, just like any job, and I write whatever people will pay me enough to write.
How much money do you make?
I don't get a paycheck or a guaranteed income. I make as much as I can line up work to make.
    Do you have benefits?
Yes, I get to work at home in my pajamas if I want, when I want, as much as I want to make what I want. I don't have to put up with office gossip or bad bosses. I can take time off any time to do whatever I want.
    But do you have insurance?
I pay for my own insurance.
Do you have to pay taxes?
I pay double taxes for being self-employed.
That sounds horrible. Wouldn't you rather have a "real" job.
I have a real job, thank you very much. I like working for myself.
    I could never do that.
    You probably couldn't.

One of my main problems is proving income. Since I get a lot of my pay through PayPal, they don't want to accept it. I have to constantly give people who don't really need them my tax returns to prove I make any money at all. I really wish B&M companies would come into the 21st century and recognize that online work is the wave of the future.
