Which of These Strategies Have Worked Best For You?

The money is in the list. Yea ,sure. But the hard part is getting hot prospects to sign up (instead of a bunch of curiosity seekers, tire-kickers, or freebie seekers).

Here's a list of the most popular strategies. Just curious which one or ones have worked best for you?

For example, Carrot Content has been my Work Horse for most of my products and services. With Exit Pop-Ups a close second.

For me personally I give a free video which helps to sell my front end product. I see many freebies or tripwires as people like to call them at the moment that don't warm up the lead.

Your free bribe needs to be of value and needs to warm up you lead turning them into a buyer. The biggest mistake I think is giving freebies once you have people on your list.

Keep giving to your list and they won't buy when you do run a promotion.

    All The Best.

    a delayed entry pop-up.

Could they have tested all the other ways and this is what won? Or what works for them?

    I'm a carrot man.

Carrot Content and Exit Splashes are my biggest pulls. Good article. Thanks for posting.

Carrot Content, often coupled with entry or exit pops (depending on test results).

I do want to point out that the author is a bit confused in his terminology for #4. A two-step opt-in is not the same as a "double" opt-in, although he uses the terms interchangeably.

Taking off my editor hat, though, nice article Roy...

I've always used landing pages, and send the traffic to them.

I'd have to say that none of the strategies have worked for me. But there's a simple explanation for that:

I never gave my previous projects enough time and devotion for any real results to be shown. But on the other hand, according to my Aweber account, most people signed up when they saw the free mini-ebook in exchange for their email address, the "carrot content" strategy in other words.

So, this next time around I think I'll be focusing on re-creating the similar strategy, but with a more targeted freebie gift!

Will definitely keep the article in mind though

My favorite strategy is to set it up as automated as possible and drive the traffic to the capture page.

The thing I do though is I ALWAYS make sure there is a facebook retargeting pixel in place. That way even if they don't opt in, I can market to them on another channel since most people are on facebook.

This builds credibility, authority and the "Everywhere" factor for my prospect to opt in.

And of course, I market to my opt ins the same way with special ads just for my email list.

I think when you combine a cheap but still somewhat quality traffic source with facebook pixels, it's time to do an awesome dance as you build a highly targeted custom audience.

    That's a nice comprehensive list

However, there are already lots of other similar lists just like it.......

Maybe it would be better if each technique was tied to an actual CASE STUDY that showed before and after stats.

THAT would be truly VIRAL content as in Brian Dean/Backlinko-type VIRAL

The hover ad/pop-up strategy used to work great for me. I decided to cut it out of my current squeeze page because while my conversions increased, people were confused about what they were receiving or going to receive - because my landing page, hover ad, and OTO page all said something different. They weren't congruent. But in the right niche, the hover ad/pop-up works amazingly.

Roy, you might want to edit that affiliate link out of the quoted post. It's what the spammer wanted, so why give it to him?

Exit popups work best for me. If you have a killer offer or deal that you can throw at your abandoning visitors, it does the trick. Idea is to offer them something that is not offered to anyone else on your store/site.

Yeah, list building. I find the real art is just tracking and monitoring everything and keeping an open mind to learn from your prospects then you can target them more closely.

The 2 strategies that I use pretty much 100% of the time when I build my list is 2-step opt-in and exit splash. Truth is, I usually see an increase around 10-15% in opt-in rates when I use the 2 step method, and exit traffic has made me sales consistently... Highly recommend these strategies for list builders.

Exit intent works great for me! Plus, it doesn't harm the user experience too much.

Yes, I'm kind of surprised you don't see as many exit pop-ups as you do entry pop-ups. I personally like exit pop-ups better as a consumer because they seem less intrusive/irritating.

Nothing like finding content, information or a page that interest me and having a pesky entry pop-up annoyingly waved in my face and breaking my concentration. My knee-jerk reaction is to quickly find the "Close" or "X" icon. I am sure I'm not alone.

In fact, I've clicked away from many pages that slapped me in the face with a entry pop-up. Because it's much like asking a person do they want to buy - before they've had a chance to examine the product.

That's why I'd encourage more marketers to at least test exit pop-ups. If the reader likes you're information it's the perfect time to serve them with a exit pop-up.

Your prospects have had time to make a more informed decision after they've seen your page as opposed to before. At the very least you should test both exit and entry pop-ups and see which one wins. If not, you're doing yourself and your prospects a huge disservice.
