A few years ago I tried my hand at making money online, I failed miserably. Somehow back then I thought it was easy to make a big buck online and be set for life.

These days my optimism is probably as low as it ever has been despite some success in my career. I have ambition to earn but my expectations are that my earnings will be minimal for lots of hard work... and I'm fine with that.

So now after a number of years I am looking to get back into the online world and take the time to develop something online that will make me some profit however small.

What I am looking for is a mentor or support from people throughout this journey. I know there are no simple answers but suggestions and advice where to start the journey will help me much more than diving in.

My skills are minimal at best.
I probably have 10-15 hours a week to give to this project.
I live in Australia.
My best skills may be in generating written content.

Any help is most welcome.

    Initial advice: go small.

IM is as broad in scope as it can be deep in complexity. I cannot even imagine how it would feel entering IM nowadays. Daunting, to say the least, I expect.

Unless you start small (and I mean micro-small) you will almost certainly fail again. But what do I mean by small?

    1. Basic Business Model.
    2. Low Start-Up Capital.
    3. 1 Traffic Method.
    4. 1 or a Small Number of Affiliate Offers.
    5. Plan, Plan, Plan.

The fact is, you may not even need a mentor. Reading between the lines of your post, and looking at the level of writing (important in IM), you quite likely have the necessary prerequisites. Where a mentor helps, quite often, is by simply speeding up what may well be an inevitable outcome.

If you opt against the mentor route, what I'd do is use the 5 steps above. Get yourself a dead-simple business model and just concentrate on trying to get that first commission. Seriously - if you can get 1 commission, you can get 100 or 1,000, or more still. You just need to figure out a system that yields that FIRST taste. That first signal that your system works.

You'll often see IMers use phrases like "rinse, repeat" and "scale up" and I'm sure you already know the meanings, but if not:

    1. Rinse, repeat: replicate the business model or a system within it.
    2. Scale up: grow what has proven to work.

Consider, like you have done above, your passions, your experience, your expertise, your knowledge, and then keep them in mind - constantly - as you scour places like WF for that one simple model to yield one simple commission.

Honestly - if you do that this time, your chances of success are so much higher than before.

    However.

If you do go the mentor route, don't just jump in. Each mentor has areas of expertise and these areas may not gel with your own PEEK (passions, experience, expertise, knowledge). You might find one chap who's adept at PPC marketing; yet it could be all wrong for you. Use the first part of my post here to work out a few potential areas, and then go hunting for a mentor, if indeed you even need one.

As regards mentor hunting - a few tips:

    1. If you go looking on WF, remember all of their past posts form a very good resume, so be sure to look through them.
    2. Determine if their areas of expertise are appropriate.
    3. Ask yourself: would I actually enjoy hanging out (virtually speaking) with this person for the next few months?
    4. Are the testimonials suggestive of a good educational experience?
    5. Do they accept just any Tom, Dick, or Harry, or are they selective? Not every person can succeed in IM.
    6. Do they have a professional website presence?
    7. Do they appear literate, intelligent, and - corny as it may be - but do they seem at once nice and yet still professional enough to tell you when you do wrong?

You'll get plenty more advice, I hope. Anyway. All the best this time around!

First its understanding how you are going to make the money and why!

Do you want to do your own product creation? Or affiliate marketing. A lot faster to begin with.

Today you really want to leverage your marketing efforts and build yourself a lead base at the same time. Then as you grow you can create your own products and market them to your established list.

    Any help is most welcome.
Don't buy anything or pay anyone for "help."

The people on this forum with actual experience will "coach/mentor" you for free. All you have to do is ask questions, and be very careful about who you trust. Independent research to verify "claims" is always recommended.

Traffic is the one skill you want to master. Once you know how to market online that WORKS FOR YOU, you can promote anything and do well.

    Here's another small tip:

You will want to work with programs that can pay you high ticket commissions. If you just focus on one time commissions that pay you $10-$50 per customer, you will need to get a lot of sales each month just to make some profit.

High ticket commissions can rang from $200 and all the way up to $3000.

Traffic is key, build a list...and the fact that you are good at generating content is a HUGE plus. If the road is rocky at first for you, I suggest looking into sites where you can sell your articles to other marketers. That could offset some of the cost of learning for you.

If you'd like to chat some on Skype or via email feel free to PM me and I can help you as time dictates. Content creation is a decent skill to have for sure.

Alot of people on this thread are advocating traffic, which is fair. However, I am always looking for the actual funnel or sales process being more important than anything else.

What happens if you can't convert X into Y? Doesn't matter if you have 10 eyeballs or 10,000,00.
