How do you promote a GoFundMe without a strong social media presence?

This is a little strange to talk about. Maybe you Warriors can help with some advice.

I'm not a big social media person (Yes, I know that is blasphemy in today's world) so I don't really have a personal social media presence - he doesn't either.

Since walking away from copywriting, my boyfriend and I started our own business. We've hit really rough times. Anyway, I was doing some work on the business today and I discovered some deleted video files on the computer.

I restored the files and looked at them (I knew they had to be my boyfriend's since I didn't have any videos) and they were very emotional videos my boyfriend made, I guess trying to do a GoFundMe campaign in order to save our butts.

He is a man with a lot of pride so I'm sure it was very difficult for him to make. I'm 99% sure he deleted them because he doesn't think anyone will donate.

I'd like to surprise him by making the campaign he abandoned, but I really have NO idea how to go about promoting it without a social media presence already.

Does anyone have any advice?

You're right that, without a large presence, your effort will struggle. All things must start someplace so I wouldn't give up entirely either.

I think you should first see if within your circle of influence, you can "recruit" some supporters who will help spread the word on social venues with you.

I would chronicle your effort and create a PDF which you can offer through your funding project as a gift and/ or sell it.

I think you should make some videos yourself chronicling your "surprise" as this will make good viral sharing happen and can be the key to your success.

You need to be ready to send out some press releases to local media as you may get some coverage and this too will increase your funding project's awareness.

But your hubby may not like the fact that you are getting exposed in this manner. Please make sure that you will not strain your relationship by doing this without talking things through or start a conversation hinting that you thought that doing something like this may be good even just as a learning experience - it may lead to other things.

    • Although everything you said was very helpful with some great ideas (I knew I could count on some of the brilliant minds of Warrior Forum), the last part hit me the hardest.

I really do need to run this by him.

I think I am going to document this (like you mentioned) in either videos or a PDF so that others can hopefully get their campaigns noticed without a strong social media start.

I especially liked your press release idea.
