Buying a Turn-key Business

I noticed on eBay they sell a lot of "established" websites, some are complete with auto-updating software.

Has anyone tried purchasing a turnkey site before?

    Most likely it's junk.

Some people make a living building up thin sites and then selling them.

If they were worth a ton of money, why are they selling them?

I'm NOT saying that all of these people are scammers, but you absolutely must conduct your due diligence, or risk getting taken.

There are good turnkey business websites out there... that probably won't be one of the better ones... and as far as auto-updating content... it might be good for some filler, but it's not going to be the quality content you want and need to bring in targeted traffic that converts to sales, much less rank in a position that would even allow that to happen.

I think the term "established" is being used very loosely there.

We define "established" as a website that is producing growing, or at least consistent, profit over a period of at least 6 months!

Imagine, if you will, that you're out in the park one fine day, just - you know - having a stroll, clearing the ole head, when all of a sudden a naked obese man springs wildly from behind a tree and - well - jiggles, and after jiggling (quite vigorously, passionately even) beckons you over and, grinning, points at a blanket laden with various food and drink. "Come on over, beautiful," he says, "let's hang out. After all, I like," and here he pauses for dramatic effect, glancing down at himself and then back up at you with a meaningful look, "hanging out."

Now imagine said turnkey business is Mr. Jiggles.

My advice? Walk away. Somewhat briskly.

Funnily enough, my wife said the same thing in the bedroom last night. Oh wait, you said wasted talent? Sorry - thought you said, "waste of time." BTW, Mum, give the nice man RW back his WF account.

        Cheers! - Tom

Make sure its at least a few years old and the primary source of traffic is NOT google. You want to buy a site that is solid, not built up with black hat techniques.

Without knowing what your budget is, I'd recommend checking out flippa.com/websites. Some sites are very expensive, while others are reasonably affordable. The sellers on Flippa provide a lot of statistics and are eager to answer questions. Here is the subheading on their site: "Flippa is the original website marketplace; buy, sell and browse thousands of websites for sale. Become an entrepreneur today."

They are worthless. Just like most starter sites on Flippa.

well I wouldnt buy one from there, there actually are good "business in a box" systems that are good.

I got my start 9 years ago becasue of one of those done for you systems that all I had to do was drive traffic too.

I would stay away from ebay and look into white label solutions, they are gonna cost more but are worth it.

I've not done that yet but as per the popular sayings "You'll never find a true profitable business which is on sale at eBay price or so".. but it might worth giving a try then do some DIY to make ti better. :-)

Well you likely wont find on on ebay, but investors buy profitable businesses that are already established and turning a profit all the time. eBay isnt the place to buy them though

It's a great way to lose money

    Seriously

There's no such thing as 'turnkey profits'

    Business means WORK

Work means paying attention to DETAILS

Paying attention to details means COMMITMENT

Spending $277 on a 'business' isn't going to cut it.

    Sorry to burst the bubble.......

    Stay away! Far Far Away.

Do not waste your money on that at all. Use it elsewhere like some ads or buying inventory for an e commerce business.
