Hi Guys

I'm new to online marketing, so I have few newbie questions I'm hoping some of you nice people on here could help me out with.

Firstly, why do most internet marketers always say you need a website even if you are promoting clickbanks affiliate products that already have a landing page etc?

secondly if there are so many online marketers how do you make any money?

Thanks

Adam

    Hello Adam, welcome aboard!

You need a website. Mainly because of 3 reasons I see, I am sure there are plenty more:

    1) build list of emails so then you can promote/cross-promote other similar products.
    2) have banners/reviews of several products that are in the same niche.
    3) market your way - do SEO that could stick for a long time (which is quite unreal I know but possible), banner ads, etc ... people may remember your amazing website and may decide to visit it after some time and buy more from you.

If you send traffic straight to affiliate product, you are losing a lot on potential business. You are building lists for other people.

To answer your second question, I think there are a lot of online marketers now but majority of them struggle due to so called "gurus" who may charge anywhere between $xx to $x,xxx for their next shiny product just to rip you off. I think there are many gurus who sell garbage that worked years ago but not anymore.

That being said, I am not saying there aren't legit and genuine gurus who can help.

And there are tons of marketers who make a lot of money online.

Thanks, I hope I was not too rude but I rather be hated for my honesty than loved for my dishonesty.

    Don Mazonas.

Many people who are new to IM will start by finding some random ClickBank product or something similar and they will just spend hours of their life spamming their affiliate link across forums, blog comments and social media.

Say this is the link you are promoting... NicheProduct.com/ref=AdamKaan
What if NicheProduct.com goes out of business or decides to end their affiliate program entirely? Then your promotion was completely useless...

What if someone who found the product through your promotion wants to refer a friend? Then most likely they are going to refer their friend to NicheProduct.com and not NicheProduct.com/ref=AdamKaan and you aren't going to make any money.

It's a home base. Your website is a fail safe and insurance that your time is never wasted. Along with that, you can get organic niche traffic from the search engines which is 100% free traffic. With your own site you can promote whatever the hell you want, whenever the hell you want and you. People will chit chat about your site- driving more traffic- building you a better reputation- leading to more sales.

The reasons why you need a website can go on and on and on. To write them out would take hours. Here are some things I've found throughout the web just now.

    Code:
Websites Never Sleep. Many people surf the web in the evening when most businesses are closed, which is perfectly fine because websites never take a break.

A website will allow your business or organization to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Having a website is the equivalent of having an employee working around the clock - even weekends and holidays!

Your Top Competitor Has A Website. If you are in direct competition with another business that has a website, they have a clear advantage - especially if they are adequately marketing their website. A website is a great way to level the playing field.

"Just Google It". More than ever before, people are turning away from traditional means of finding information and looking online, especially by way of mobile devices. Your business should be at their fingertips when they look in the search engines.

Websites Improve Customer Confidence & Corporate Image. With a professional website, you will improve you overall impression to the public and, in turn, your customers will develop a greater sense of confidence in your organization.

Small Businesses Have Higher Revenue. According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses that have websites are averaging $1.07 million more per year in sales than small businesses not online. That equates to 39% higher revenue.
Do You Know 247 Million People? That is the number of Americans that regularly use the Internet. Worldwide Internet usage is pushing two billion.

Websites Help Establish More Customers. According to the Small Business Administration, 50% of Internet sales are from new customers. Having a website significantly improves your customer reach no matter what services or products you offer.
Websites Are Not Just Local, They Are Global. Most small businesses are only able to market to their town and surrounding communities. With a website, you can take your goods and services across America and around the world, if you so choose.

    ---------------------------

    Reason #1 – Online brochure
Companies spend millions creating brochures and distributing them. By having a website you can skip that entirely. Your potential customers can find out about you and any of your products online. If you get most of your business through networking and personal connections, then they will want to check out your website.

    Reason #2 – More customers
More than 2.4 billion people use the internet every day, and some 90% of those have purchased something, or contacted a company, online in the last 12 months. So by not having a website, you will be missing out on a big piece of the pie.

    Reason #3 – Business value
Have you tried getting a business loan recently? It’s not easy, but if you try and the bank manager asks to see your website, you better have a pretty good one. It doesn’t just stop with the bank, the perceived value of your business will be lower in everyone’s eyes – especially your customers.

    Reason #4 – Influence
By having a website potentially thousands of people are going to see it. You are able to influence people’s decisions and educate them.

Reason #5 – Time to show off
You know that great feeling you get when people recognize your work? Well, by having a website you can show off what you do and take pride in your work.

Reason #6 – Helps with business goals
That’s right! When it comes to writing the content for your website you are going to revisit things about your business that you haven’t in years. You will most likely reassess your business goals.

Reason #7 – Low barriers of entry
Ever wanted to start a business? Well, now you can do it with virtual space. In fact, by using some free website providers you don’t have to pay a penny.

    Reason #8 – 24 hours per day
Your website runs 24/7 without any supervision or need to lock it up. You can always be there for your customers.

Reason #9 – Communication with customers
By having a blog or even just a feed on your website, you can update customers on your newest offers, products, promotions, events, photos, or any other content.

    Reason #10 – Marketing
The internet has opened up a whole new world of marketing that didn’t exist before. Your website can attract new business by using a whole host of low cost marketing techniques.

    Reason #11 – Customer support
You can greatly reduce the cost of customer support by have a ticketing system, or even just an FAQ on your website. I can think of about 5 companies off the top of my head that streamline your customer service straight from your website.

    Reason #12 – Email@mywebsite.com
I know there are other ways to do this, but by having a website you can have your own email address@whateveryouwant.com. It is more professional and easier to remember. I know you love your steveman99286534@gmail.com , but it doesn’t really resonate with customers.

    Reason #13 – Press releases
I know that sounds a bit far out, but it is true. You can run really cheap press releases online about your business, but to do it you will require a website. In fact, I have had clients who were absolute nobodies get one million views on YouTube because of online press releases.

Reason #14 – Stick it to the man
The best answer to “Why do I need a website?” would be that you can stick it to the man. It is the easiest way to quit your job and earn a living.

Reason #15 – Any topic or hobby will do
Do you love sports? How about ballet, alternative dance, photography, holidays, Kit-Kats, cars, skateboards, science or animals? Well, then you have a business idea just waiting to happen. The internet has room for an unlimited number of niche blogs that can attract traffic and revenue. Just pick something you love and start writing about it.

Reason# 16 – Connect with fellow web masters
On a little side note, if you own a website you get to call yourself a ‘web master’. Pretty cool! But reason #16 for ‘why I need a website’ is that you can easily make new business and personal connections with other website owners. This can lead to extra streams of income for you!

    Reason #17 – Gives you a voice
Have you ever been in an argument with someone and said “Well, I have written an article about that on my website, and actually, that isn’t the case.” It feels great! For some reason people don’t want to argue with you if you’ve written about something on your website. It also gives you a place where you can voice your opinion without judgment. If someone leaves you a comment you don’t like you can just drag it over to the spam folder.

Reason #18 – Do business your own way
You don’t need permission from your boss or company lawyer. Ash Ambridge drops the ‘F-Bomb’ all the time because she can, and no else is asking her to stop. Now she has a world class business with thousands of customers.

Reason #19 – Beat the big guys
Have you ever wanted to get into business, but don’t know how to compete with all the big names out there? By creating an incredibly beautiful website with a solid strategy behind it you can smash the big guys to pieces. You have no chance of building bigger skyscrapers, but your website can break down the perceived wall between you and them.

    Reason #20 – Instant credibility
Have you ever had difficulty making that sale? Or convincing someone that you are the real deal. By having a well structured website you can foster instant credibility with anyone. You can provide the ultimate proof that you are, in fact, the realest of all deals (couldn’t resist that phrase).

Reason #21 – Helps you to find a new job
I bet you didn’t see this one coming. I have been harping on about how a website can help your business, but it can help you personally too. Not only can a website host your resume or CV, but by owning and managing your website you have demonstrated tons of hard and soft skills. Having worked in HR once upon a time, I know it is valuable.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. YOUR SMALL BUSINESS WILL GAIN CREDIBILITY

Today, more and more consumers use the internet to search for the products or services they need. Your small business will gain credibility by having a website. Without one, potential customers will go to your competitors that do. If you already have a website but it is "home-made", having it professionally redesigned will provide your business with a professional image which will inspire even greater confidence. For home-based businesses, this is particularly beneficial since you do not have a store front to promote your products or services.

    2. A WEBSITE SAVES YOU MONEY

As a small business owner you probably think you can't afford a professional website, but you can't afford NOT to. Although the cost of designing a website varies, once it's up and running, a website for a small business generally costs under $100 a month and, in some cases, as little as $20. Compared with the cost of a newspaper ad, when you consider the potential market you can reach with a website, it is a very cost effective way to promote your business.

    3. IT WILL ENABLE YOU TO KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS INFORMED

Think of your website as being your online brochure or catalogue. It is much easier and quicker to update information about your products and services on your website than in print material, making it an effective way of letting your customers know about the arrival of new products, upcoming events, special promotions, or any new services you now offer. Unlike print ads which quickly become outdated, your website can provide current information and news.

    4. IT IS ALWAYS ACCESSIBLE

A website is available to both your regular and potential customers 24/7/365 providing them with the convenience of reviewing your products and services when your store or office is closed. With today’s busy lifestyles, this is a great selling point when making a purchase decision.

    5. A WEBSITE MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO TARGET A WIDER MARKET

Whether you provide products or services, your website will provide an alternative location to sell them. As a retailer, a website (eCommerce) is a great place to sell your products to a wider market; even services can be made available globally. Don't think you'll be able to sell your products or services online? Don't forget, even cars and houses sell online!

    6. IT PROVIDES A MEDIUM ON WHICH TO SHOWCASE YOUR WORK

No matter what type of business you’re in, a website is a great place to showcase your work. By including a portfolio or image gallery, as well as testimonials about your work, you can demonstrate what makes your business unique.

    7. A WEBSITE SAVES YOU TIME

Providing information to your customers takes time, whether it’s on the phone, face-to-face, in a brochure, or in emails. With an online catalogue you can provide lots of information about your products and services. Once your website is up and running, it is available to your customers indefinitely, saving you time. And what is time? Time is money!

    8. IT IMPROVES CUSTOMER SERVICE

Maybe you sell environmentally friendly products and would like to share tips on how to recycle, or perhaps you’re an accountant and want to give your clients advice on how to simplify their bookkeeping practices. By including a FAQ page, adding articles or uploading newsletters to answer all your customers' questions you can keep them up-to-date. What better way to provide them with value added service than by sharing information on your website.

    Hi Adam,

As Mzonas stated, you need to build a list of emails too. Because if you can get people interested in the niche you're targeting to look at your site and buy this product, maybe they will be interested in what you sell next. If people sign up to your list, you've always got a way to communicate with them if your site has a new post, big update, product promotion etc.

Building a website gives you something that belongs to you. Then, you can do many things with your website, building a list, forum, any other thing you like.
There are so many marketers, but not all of them are successful. The successful ones mostly own a website and have an email list.

The main reason why many advise you to create a website is to help keep yourself "unique". Think of your landing page as a shopfront. If every single one of the interiors looked the same, what makes you stand out from your competitors?

Likewise, for potential customers, they might have already seen several other people using the same landing page before arriving at yours. Being able to customize your own website and presenting it in your own style can help make all the difference in selling.

As for your question about online marketers, the internet is a vast market that connects the entire world. Over saturation is an improbable case.

I agree that there is more competition now than 10 years ago, but also there are more people online now.

Having your own website is great since you can have an opt-in and get email signups from your visitors. That way you are in control of those emails not the final clickbank seller. You can promote different offers to them later and not just one.

By having your own website you will look more professional and can build an email list of people interested all in the same topic.

Yes there are an ever growing number of internet marketers, but as itos mentioned there are more people online now as well and it seems that as time goes on, more and more people are interested in starting an online business.

The people who make $$$$$ online are those who have REAL businesses.

Don't write about red widgets. Make your own and sell them on ETSY, or set up an import business, or provide consultancy services about how people can get more out of their widgets.

When it comes to why people have websites, there are two main reasons for this, First, it's been statistically proven that conversion rates are higher when landing pages are used. Why? They are meant to answer any lingering questions the person may have, which can sway them to buy the product. Also, if you just send out affiliate links without a landing page, that's considered spamming. It could cause you to get banned from particular sites and what not.

In addition, people with websites seem more trustworthy -- like they know what they are talking about -- especially when the site has lots of content and is established. If you have an opt-in form on your site, you can also capture leads. so you can promote stuff to them down the line -- another method to make money from your blog. As for your second question about competition, the truth is that not that many people actually do this stuff. It's also important to note that when you are competing against people, you are competing against people in the same niche that are trying to get ranked for the similar keywords you are.

Actually you need to have a personal identification, if you have the personal website, you can arrange your products details there. So if you have a website, it would better for your business. Thanks a lot.

If you just send traffic to a product landing page you only get one chance to sell that person. Get them to optin on a landing page at your own website and you will have the chance of repeat business for a long time

True. Thats why there are 100,000+ niches outside the MMO niche you can pursue

If you go to college and earn your bachelor's degree in computer engineering... how do you land a job?

How would you get a job at the local grocery store as a "cashier" if there's already so many cashiers?

Your question is no different. Start reading and learning, and think about the 2 questions I posed above.

It's best to have a place to sign people up to your list before sending them to an affiliate site. If you are at this very long you will see the advantages.

secondly if there are so many online marketers how do you make any money?

I started off on Ebay and made my first sale the same day I got started. Right now, I'm experimenting with a few different idea but most of my online income is being made on YouTube.which doesn't require a website.

Hi Adam, if you want to be successful online, then you need to have your own website. You need to a have a presence online or else all your marketing efforts will all be for nothing. Look at it this way, if you don't have your own website and your just promoting Clickbank products all day with the same squeeze page, then your not going to make many sales. You have to remember that thousands of others are promoting the same Clickbank product, so you need to differentiate yourself from the competition. Having your own website allows you to create relevant content within that particular niche with which you can create your own unique squeeze pages and point them to the sales page for that particular product.
