When Should I Register a Domain?

Should I register a domain on September the 30th or October the 1st?

Which do you think is better? Financially, astrologically, logistically, etc. I personally like 10/1 better, because it's the first day of the month and it's exactly 6 months from April the 1st. So it should be a perfect day to start a serious business.

Any suggestions?

I like 9/11 and 9/31, but the former date is banned and the latter is unavailable at my registrar? What should I do?

I think you should get out more.

If 10/1 trips your trigger, go for it.

The problem is, I can't wait until 10/1. I am so excited and tempted to register it right away. My fingers are already itching so badly to start typing the domain name at domain registrar that I have to sit on my hands to prevent this and I have to type this reply with my nose.

I don't have any advice because it is your business.

I just suggest you choose wisely or your whole enterprise could be bankrupt by 2031 when the new domain registration date rules kick in.

But I want to register a domain name that starts with 10/1, like 101advice dot hn or 101jokes.hn. Does this make any difference?

To the general population of your future site visitors, it matters not. They wouldn't care.

Since it only matters to you, why not just follow your gut? Since you are so inclined to defend your preference for 10/1, go for it.

I remember the "duck and cover" drills from elementary school. As if a standard school desk would protect us from a nuclear blast.

Which led to a poster that was popular for awhile, showing people hiding under desks with the instructions:

In the event of a nuclear attack, do the following:

          1. Take cover under your desk.
          2. Tuck your head between your knees and wrap your arms around your legs.

I did register one last year, but I had to let it expire, because I couldn't renew it on Friday the 13th. I have to sue my registrar because they have messed up the calendar. I know damn well it was Friday on June 13th last year, but this year it was Saturday. I am not going to fall for this registrar scam.

Instead, I am waiting now until November to register the same domain again with another registrar. 11/13/15 seems pretty cool.

Google's ranking algorithm considers the day of the year (plus time of day) the domain was registered.

They look at the registration dates and times of all sites flagged as "harmful to your computer." If there is a spike in these registrations and your domain was registered within that window, you could have some points knocked off. They are going to scrutinize you beyond what they normally would.

Here is how I do it... Watch & learn..

I register domains between my morning pee and my second pancake on the third Friday of every June... I face east, look north three times, turn on the toaster to setting 3, lick kitchen counter thrice, slap my own face twice, run into the wall eight times, squeeze a rubber chicken twice and throw my lawn mover down from the roof... and now I am ready to register an efffing domain..!!! Hallelujah.

By far the busiest day of the year.

    I am confused.

At first I thought you had a domain name and wanted to register it on the dates.

As I continued reading through the posts, you want to use the date in the domain name.

However, you mentioned in one of your posts that you cannot wait.

Someone once mentioned there is no right or wrong decision. There are only decisions and you make it right or wrong.

So honey, what ever trips your wire, go for it!

Well, i will advise you to go for the one that you think is appropriate.
Keep determined and believe in yourself, your business needs you, not these dates.
But if you prefer, you can use 10/1 for registering the domain.

I hope you're just making fun of how irrelevant you think the forum is, by asking a particularly irrelevant question. If this is a serious question, then I can only hope you're 12 years old or younger.

Assuming you're actually serious, what day is "perfect" for you to start a business? Probably the day you learn the difference between a business forum and an astrology forum, and learn to stop calling your future business, "a serious business".

        Then get another registrar. Duh

Come on people this isn't hard stuff. If you can;t get what you need from one company get it from another. Learn to run a business the way that suits your competitive advantage.

Think about the traffic from being the only site showing when somebody does a specific search for that date (well if they can) . You also will get the results of a search for two days instead of one when people search for results in the last day (think about it.... or don't)

Take a lemon and go make lemonade and don't take no for an answer. I want to register a domain on Feb 29th and I am not taking the bull that I can't because its not a leap year from some company that can't accommodate the needs of their customers. It can be done. I saw it in a WSO

Your real problem is the different time zones across the world.

If you register a domain in your zone on September 30, it'll be October 1 somewhere else in the world. If could just as easily still be September 29.

Similarly, if you register on October 1 in your time zone, it'll be either September 30 or October 2 elsewhere.

This dilemma will be further compounded if your hosting service is in a different time zone to your registrar? Imagine the problems you'll encounter if you register a domain on October 1, but where your site is hosted it's still September 30.

An anomily like that will cause the internet to implode. Planes will fall out of the sky. Computer systems around the world will go into meltdown. Defence systems will automatically be raised to DefCon 5. Nuclear weapons will criss cross the globe wiping out everything and everyone.

My advice is to never register a domain. Ever.
