Generating traffic with article directories

Hey warriors,

I just want to know that is Ezinearticles or other article directories a good source for getting traffic back to your site in 2015? However Google now does not rank articles from Ezinearticles, can you still get visitors with the site's internal traffic.

If no then where can I add articles to get targeted traffic back to my website.

Good place. Yes you will get a little traffic from the network itself! The strong advantage when your going after the serps is they have a lot of authority. When the spiders see a bridge between you and ezine if makes you more powerful and you will climb in the ranks.

Make a really good article and optimize with your keywords and get a lot of others to share your article over time.

All links on the most popular article directories are now no follow so it wont help you rank.

These sites really took a shit once Google found out how they worked. I have not seen 1 Ezine ranked in Google for years now, I use to see at least 1 in the top 5 prior to this.

What you NEED to do with your articles is make sure they are original content and put them on your site to MAKE your site the authority.

Build your site up with good, original content and that will help you rank; this is what Google is looking for now becuase they know it takes time to do this and if this is done it more than likely is a quality site

I have about 30 articles posted there for upteen years now and I get
about 1 or 2 clicks per month from that directory. After one of the
Google updates article directories like these got dumped. They use
to generate a lot of clicks but not anymore. I don't know if there is
any possibility of coming back to the same level as the old days.

      My experience is like Ray's.

No, EzineArticles is not a good source of targeted traffic.

You can get a few clicks here and there each month but it will not produce a steady stream of traffic that you need to be successful online . . . and it never has.

The reason I have submitted articles there in the past is in the hope that my articles would be picked up there by authority sites in my niche and reposted on their sites. A much more effective strategy however, is to simply make personal contact with niche authority sites and let them know that you can furnish them high quality niche content in return for a link back to your site.

The very best place for your articles is to get them posted on the popular targeted sites in your niche . . . like blogs, directories, portals, forums, ecommerce sites, and product sites that have authority within the niche.

Don't worry about general sites like EA and others that are not specific to the interests of your intended audience. It's more effort than it's worth as a traffic strategy. At least that's my experience.

For a variety of niches, Ezinearticles still works quite well provided it is used in the manner for which it was originally intended. The notion of driving traffic directly from any article directory or for ranking in the SERPs was a short-lived aberration heavily promoted by nefarious marketers of article spinning software, SEO "gurus", and writing "services".

In my experience, the highest and best practice for using Ezinearticles is the same as it always has been; as a sourcing platform for ezine publishers, newsletter editors, bloggers, etc. This article directory (perhaps the only one to even consider) is well known and still highly regarded by publishers for content sourcing. When used as part of an overall article marketing strategy, Ezinearticles is a powerful leveraging tool.

Thank you all for helpful answers, but

What about converting article to PDF and submitting to sites like Issue, Docstoc, Scribd etc?

Does this strategy generates traffic? Is anyone here using these sites?

I haven't seen people use that in years, either.

If that is where your targeted audience gets their information, then of course go for it.

Ideally, you should be submitting your articles to online/offline publications that are already being read by your targeted demographics. And as I mentioned earlier, use the wide influence of Ezinearticles as a tool for leveraging article distribution. I never could understand why this concept is so difficult to grasp here on the WF. This is basic Marketing 101.

The point of article directories is not to drive traffic to your site, it's to give site owners a place to find good content. These are the majority of people browsing an article directory. If you want to use articles to drive traffic or increase rankings then contact websites directly to see if they're looking for content, then give them something great their readers will love and they'll accept more of your articles in the future.

Article directories kind of went out of style once they got hit by all of the Google updates. I haven't used them in years (literally). Since that time, social media has become a big deal for getting traffic, so I'd go that route instead. You've just got to figure out which social media sites the people in your niche tend to use the most.

Ezinearticles is a wrap. If you want to get traffic from your content then consider:

    1) A blog

    2) Guest blogging

    3) Turning your content into a Youtube video (not a video-article though)

    4) Turning your content into a podcast.

You can still use EZA for healthy traffic; but better newbie-friendly routes to article syndication exist, and actually always have. Steve B offered some great insight for you, OP.

    Step in my Delorean

The highlights of what you used to do:

    1. Select 1 low-competition keyword.
    2. Include it in your title.
    3. Plop it at the start, the middle, and the end of your 300 to 500-word article.
    4. Also plop it in your custom author bio for that article.
    5. Ensure your author bio reads like a continuation of your article.
    6. Use typical article writing know-how to elicit a desired reader-response.
    7. If you were keen (not usually necessary) get half a dozen link-backs (keyword: anchor text).

The above, when EZA had Google Juice, should be good enough to rank you page 1, position 1 within hours - within 48 hours at the most. If it failed - and, like I say, you were keen - you'd build more links.

Those who made real money wrote around 10 articles per day through their premium accounts and used the traffic like this:

EZA Article > Squeeze Page > Monetized Thank You Page > Follow-Up Series.

And I'll tell you - big money was made.

    Ah.

And then the Google update happened that singled out directories. People had been submitting trash to EZA and easily getting ranked and this resulted in the SERPs looking like a rather untidy demilitarized zone. Something had to be done. And it was.

    Goodbye EZA ranking juice!

Step Back in my Delorean and Welcome Back to 2015

Article syndication is big business and actually newbie-friendly in many respects. The key principle to understand: find out where your target audience hangs out, supply them with information - not salesy information, but real information - and let the modern internet do much of the work for you. What I'd suggest is digging deeper into the subject. It's a big one, but worth the time.

Start your own free article directory and add it to a list. Thanks for giving me the idea!

  • Sites like that still work as a great source of traffic. Also backlink however now as strong as they used to be. Definitely good for traffic.
