How Would You Monetize a Personal Development Website

I have been reading a few threads on past Personal Development threads and many commented it's a great niche and there is a lot of money to be made.

Personal Development is a huge market and not a niche and I guess it makes sense to be more targeted like productivity, abundance, memory improvement etc.

My partner has a website on personal development and it is too broad. While monetizing via ads like Google ad sense and other ad networks is an option, we are looking for other ways of monetization.

Are there any Clickbank/Amazon/CJ products that are worth looking into?

We tried Mindvalley but it didn't work out. Are there any other Mindvalley alternatives?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you have an audience that enjoys your content, have you considered creating your own products to sell?

Alex, it's my partner's website and he has really good content but it's spread across a lot of topics like affirmations, improve confidence, how to have better relationships etc. While product creation is something we have in mind, we first want to test out affiliate products before we can start working on them.

When you try to cover a very broad market like personal development, you often can't be specific and focused simply because there are so many things to cover in order to hit it all. Your audience will have a wide range of interests because your reach is so wide. For a small business owner, that's a bad thing.

You want your audience to be of one mind . . . with the same interests, issues, problems and desires. Then it's easy to appeal to everyone. So you focus on one topic only, like time management, self esteem, or stress relief.

By focusing on one topic, all of your content will appeal to all of your audience. All of your offers will appeal to all of your audience. It makes marketing so much easier when everyone wants the same thing.

No one comes to the Internet in search of "personal development." People look for specific solutions to specific problems.

Think about it . . . if your site was about "personal development" every time your put out content or offers about self esteem, a large portion of your audience would have no interest because that is not their issue. They'll get bored real easily and leave fast.

You can always branch out later with other "related" web sites in personal development once your first site is set up and consistently bringing in the income you want. But to begin with a broad, comprehensive site, IMO, is a big mistake. Get focused and deal with one very specific topic.

So my advice is drill down deeply, focus your site on one topic, put out lots of great relevant and unique content and your readers will see your coming offers as specific to their very needs.

I agree with Steve here. You have to narrow down your brand a little bit. But that doesn't mean that you should throw away all of the content you have made. Just try to become an expert in at least one topic. From there, you can create some products, courses and services.

One personal development blog that I like is Zenhabits. I think the blogger is making money from a monthly course subscription and sales of his books.

Have you researched at Personal Development forums? As we are doing here, you can answer or post questions to see what are their interests, help them and sure you'll find some affiliate products that can help or solve their problems.
