The Power Of Blog Comments

I normally just use facebook to promote my website which brings in about 4 visits per day if I post daily. But the other day I noticed a post by someone else and thought I would look it up. It had great info on the article but I felt I could add to the topic since I had a similar article which went into a little bit more detail.

So I posted a comment not really expecting it to be approved with the link intact since normally in the past it seems blog owners do not want others providing links. BUT I suppose that since I offered the information about what was in the link as the content of my comment then it made it more appealing for the author to approve it. Since my comment gave the basic information and the link had more detailed information.

Well, since it was approved I noticed today that there have already been 4 unique visits from the blog. Which tells me this is a great way to build traffic (as many have already said).

Now I know 4 visits is low...but considering that my site has not yet developed high traffic through SEO (Google, yahoo, and bing barely send visits) and since this link was not in an effort for building traffic (it was more or less just me building a relationship with the author) I think it's a great start and a good learning experience for how to build traffic with this method.

Commenting is definitely a great way to get visitors to your site, especially commenting on other people's blog.

I saw the link in your signature. Glad to see another Christian here! Keep on spreading the Good Word!

Posting high-quality comments on high-quality blogs can be great for brand exposure and the occasional link, the problem comes when you try to do it just to drive traffic and not to help others.

Taking this topic further, if you stick to commenting on a few large blogs and become an integral part of that community, providing help and value, you'll often garner the attention of the blog owner and may be invited to post content or promote your website in other ways.
