I say create your own product and just sell one a day and you'll have more money than you need. If you can't create a product using your knowledge, skill, and experience, then license a product and sell it.

With such low income expectations, you should have no trouble at all doing this very quickly. Since you know how to build a web site, and you say you've "been around the block" then all you need to do is get it done and begin marketing to drive traffic.

Remember that everything starts with demand. Make sure what you offer is in demand and you should have no trouble being successful.

Just do it!

So Create a product like , "how to build a website from scratch" or something like that. Should that be an E-book or video, or something else, and then if I sell it on my own site, do you think I should create a new site for each product or put each product on it's own domain?

I really hope your employer isn't paying you by the hour. If they are, they have a thief working for them. Yes, collecting your hourly pay while working on your own business is stealing.

Surely there must be something you can do to earn your pay when times are slower?

That was my fear when I first was hired, however my employer has encouraged me to work on my own side projects to get extra income. It's a sales job, paying salary, where they don't want me to do cold calling, and outside of answering phones or having customers come in(which is about 1 every 2-3 hours) there really is nothing else to do. But thank you for your concern.

Are you for real bro? At least he is doing something constructive. I would rather work on my side projects that bush a broom or something stupid during my "down time". Who cares? It's no different than taking an overly long sh*t in the bathroom, sneaking an extra cigarette break, or making personal phone calls on the job. Everyone does it. Get over yourself.

Until the OP clarified that his employer was okay with what he's doing, that would have been my answer. Whether you would prefer to do something besides push a broom or "something stupid" is irrelevant when you're on the clock.

BTW, I've fired people for habitually taking overly long bathroom breaks, too many smoke breaks or making excessive (non-emergency) personal calls. I stand by what I said earlier - if you are doing anything but what you've been assigned to do without approval while you are on the clock, you are stealing from your employer every bit as much as if you stuck your hand in the till.

I do have to answer the phone regularly so cold calling or going door to door is probably out, (though I could do recordings as I could just pause for a call or a customer walking in) since I need to be able to work on the computer and then switch to a customer at a Second's notice if necessary. Any ideas?

I checked your WFH ad. You're not getting interest in it for several reasons.

1 > It's boring. You literally began with a recital of California penal code. Whether in audio or in print, this is as dull as dirt.

Where are some graphics to liven it up? A banner/header? Anything?!

2 > Wrong search term. "Narrator" is fine in the copy, but at the top and in the title you want "Voiceover artist".

3 > Poor embedding of multimedia. Your links to your audio samples are so damn ugly I didn't even SEE them the first time I went through your copy (think about that!).

Use a url shortener like Pretty Link Lite to make a nicer url. Make them stand out ("Audio sample HERE:

Warranty Audio Download")

Alternatively, you can use an image with the link embedded in it for the download. Or do what I would do and turn it into a Youtube video with a fast & free service and embed that right into the page.

4 > Weak call to action. "What can you do with this product?" (Well first of all, it's a service not a product) "Whatever you would like!" ("Oh really? I can mail it to New Zealand? I can feed it to my dog?") Terrible.

5. No Buy button. This is inexcusable. A Paypal shopping cart button gives you the variable requirement you need. They buy as many minutes as they initially think they need.

Why would you put a barrier between you and the buyer? (Oh great, now I have to PM the guy. Too much work. I'm gone.)

Yes, you can still encourage people to PM you. But at least have the Buy button there. If they underestimate the time required, they can always buy more time later.

Your first job is to get them interested in working with you, and then to commit to working with you! You can always make adjustments later. Even if you were to end up charging less than you'd like to for the first couple jobs, you will get happy testimonials...and that is what you really want in your thread.

Fix these things if you want the voiceover offer to start working. Also note as soon as it falls off Page 2, it's pretty much useless (from my own experience), so keep it bumped...as long as it pays to do so.

As for your current question, why not develop some nice-looking website templates and sell them as a product?

You can also offer WFH web design (I do, and have made thousands with it in "extra money"...without ever showing samples.) At a below $1000 price point, it's quite attractive. Keep in mind you have to put WORDS on those pages, which doesn't seem to be your strong suit, honestly, so maybe you want to partner up with a copywriter.

Do not offer ANYTHING unless you know what you're doing with it. You say you have 15 years of voiceover experience...OK. But if in the web design field all you have are a bunch of researched and collected (but never used) tools, and I'm not saying that's the case at all, don't get into that market.

And charge more.

Holy jeez, charge more. You want to make an extra $5-10 a day?? It's easier to make $50-100.

Low price = low perceived quality.

Skilled, 'real' buyers don't want low quality. They move away from it.

And struggling, wannabe buyers are broke. They have to rob from Peter to pay Paul (you). Even if it's just $10, it's a struggle for them.

Who would you rather deal with?

Start at the bottom with something you love.

Create a site, write or buy some decent content and then promote it on social media.

Get some relevant CPA offers on the site and a mailing list.

Promote, promote, convert.

Do it all again.

Something else you might find helpful is that you need to pick one single thing you're going to work at and stay focused even when you come to a hurdle. A lot of people bounce around from project to project the first time something seems like it failed, but you need to push through that part and make it work. That's the game.
