What's the first advertising method that blew your blog doors wide open?

I finished up a post about driving traffic to a blog. Me, personally I prefer FB Ads, Adwords, Blogger, Forum Posting and Social Media. But, I was curious to ask my fellow warriors a question. What was the traffic driving method that blew your blog's door wide open? Meaning, what changed the game and skyrocketed YOUR traffic?

For me it was when I started to use the Google adwords content network with banner ads. I'm getting 2 cent clicks and converting.

Not sure if I could want more than that.

My first paid advertising was with Bing ads, I tried FB and Adwords later, but found Bing comparatively cheap and better conversion givingy.

This may sound silly to many of you and the most basic of answers to some, but YouTube was my ticket. A couple of years ago I decided to take my writing and convert it into video form. Just me, my thoughts and my camera... What I started out of curiosity with the hopes of earning a few dollars in ad revenue here and there, eventually snowballed into a following of tens of thousands of targeted subscribers who tuned into my channel every week because they were interested in what I had to say. With this following I was able to promote my blog and many other things. The best part is, I didn't go out searching for the targeted audience. The targeted audience found me.

I know there are many people here who are just starting out who get discouraged by the lack of traffic they're getting. But take it from me, you do not need to have a large amount of money to spend, have the right connections, or even know the slightest thing about the more advanced tactics of payed advertising to get traffic to your blog. Sometimes the most basic of things that you've known about all along can get you where you hope to go.

Yeah, I've been making some youtube videos as well. i know that's gonna be the ticket moving forward, plus Google owns YT, so that doesn't hurt with the rankings either.
