I'd say having a business that makes you money while you sleep is a very effective way to make money, not having to trade time for money as most people do in order to pay their bills.

There are different methods to make money online but most stem from the same principals.

Build a list of people interested in the type of products your marketing.

Build a relationship with those people.

Market your products to them once they know, like and trust you.

only 3 steps:

1. be able to provide a solution to a problem, either as a service or an info product. (aka deliver value)
2. find a way (or more) to drive visitors to your offer
3. sell more to the just acquired customers (aka "the backend")

Excuse me for saying this but honestly it seems like you are putting "the Cart before the horse".

You should be asking "is online marketing an effective way to market a particular Product I have that will solve a particular problem or concern of a particular group of people"

You went from Online Marketing====> Money and skipped the in between
i.e Online Marketing ====> Your Product or Service that will Contribute =====> And make Money by building an actual business based on this service/product

It may seem to be just simple semantics to some, but it is important Mindset that you must embrace !!

Otherwise you will just be one of those disappointed people who are 'chasing ' and looking for ways to make money online and not have a long term vision of how to do it and sustain it
