Selling a domainname with or without content?

I would say 100% with, because you can give the buyer an idea what they can do with it.

But what is your opinion, should you sell a domain name with our without content?

For Example www.ABC.DEF, with a small website or page about language.

Or should you have just nothing on it?

It depends on the domain name and the buyer.

    - Is your buyer an experienced web developer?
    - Is it a premium domain?

There is certainly a market for selling websites with income, however when it comes to merely adding content to a website to show a buyer how that site might be used, your buyers are at the low-end of the domain buying food chain - we're talking mom and pop store owners. And even these folks would rather a website with ranking and traffic.

If you're not going to grow traffic and income, my advice is just to sell the domain. Easier!

Yeah, I agree with Tom. If you are going to sell a domain with content, then go all the way with it and seek to rank pages for keywords and build up traffic. Most people already have an idea about what they want to do with a domain they are interested in anyhow. Just having content without traffic is a waste of your time, imo, and won't help much.

      Thanks Tom & Joan,

I was just thinking, does it add just value if it connects. I not mean with income or visitors just a website. Or doesn't it do anything to the value of the domain name?

For example, the value of a name is 30$, but by presentation it nice, I can sell it for 50$

Like when you flip a house, if you add furniture it sells easier.

You're very right - and that's an excellent example (the house selling).

        What you can do:

        1. Get yourself a subscription to Elegant Themes (since you can give away the theme with the website; no download rights; but the theme can be bundled).

        2. Give it a web design that fits the industry.

        3. Optimize the website for conversions.

        4. Pay 5 bucks for a presentation video on Fiverr that talks about (in general terms) what the website does (so the new owner can perhaps use the video).

When you do the above for a few different industries, you end up with templates. It then makes it easy to whip up a site in around 20 minutes.

You then want to push the domain BUT offer them the website as a GIFT (including video) and as a SECOND GIFT offer to give them 1 hour consultation if they require the website to be setup for their business. And that's where you can push affiliate products (hosting, fiverr (pays $15.50 through PeerFly), themes, plugins, etc) and perhaps get yourself (or your VA) ongoing work for media management or marketing or whatever.

Bit of a rush post (in the middle of work) but hopefully it'll help. Last point before I forget: the above is generally aimed at offline business or 100% green newbies in IM. It's basically one model you can use.

        What I prefer though -

You buy a premium name at a deal price, you then do one of 3 things:

        1. You develop it and add it to your income portfolio.
        2. You flip it for a quick profit.
        3. You hold onto it to secure a better price down the line.

        Best of luck, matey.

For me, it depends on the sector and how long you can wait before you generate some interest. For some of my retail sites, I use an Amazon Plugin like Webzonbuilder, Prosociate or Freshstorebuilder. These are generally for domain names that I have hand registered and have no history or were dropped several years ago.

Other sites I have developed with content both original or curated. Cooking sites, exercise/yoga sites, heath and wellness domains, etc.

For some sites I use a simple landing page or a landing page with a video explaining some of the virtues of owning the site. Others - ones that I haven't gotten around to - I have parked at Voodoo or Bodis.

If you have a lot of traffic from any niche, then consider selling it as a full-functioning website on Filppa or Ebay. If not, then developing a history, some backlinks, etc. will be helpful in selling the domain over the long term. Be sure to place a for sale sign on the site linking to your contact page or a domain name sales platform like Sedo or Afternic.
