There really should be some filters or a Captcha when it comes to creating a new thread...

Well, I jumped on to see what topics are fun to jump in and all I saw was a million spam threads...

It sort of doesn't make sense that there is no spam protection going on when it comes to creating these threads...

    Did you report them???

I did, and they were removed within seconds after I reported 3 of the posts and mentioned that all of the posts from that new user appeared to be spam (filling the front page of this section of the forum)

If they are responding to you, Sid - please report the dozens that have been live now for hours.

Other member reports are being ignored completely.

Many of the spam threads have been live for hours now with nothing done about them. Members shouldn't HAVE to report those - it's not like they are hidden. But it's clear there are no moderators here again today.

I don't understand how these scammers work but I have noticed just before this spam begins there are a few posts or a new thread that make no sense. They are not overtly spam but nonsense posts - and if those are not challenged/deleted, the spam seems to follow quickly. Am I seeing things or is that how it works?

I must be stupid but I don't understand what's in it for these spammers. Who clicks on this crap?

Yeah - they got the last batch for me almost immediately, but I've also reported this latest batch and I don't seem to have gotten their attention - LOL

There was almost a whole page of spam posts when I looked this morning - way too many to report individually. I just gave up and came back later in the day.

There should be some easy ways to stop that - forum software has been deflecting spammers since forums started. It could include an incubation period, a minimum post count, trapping for too many links, all sorts of different options.

Or even just "first new thread you create has to be moderated" - that's near enough in the site software already as new War Room posts get moderated, so do WSOs.

We've gone from love spam to live stream in the past few minutes. Instead of 20 of 25 threads in "new thread" being spam - only 12 are right now.

Really - how hard is it to set up filters for these threads?

Simple way to stop some of it would be to limit threads by new members. NO reason a NEW member would be starting multiple threads - no reason for a new member to have a live link in a thread - how about a filter that limits the number of threads ANYONE can start in 24 hrs? No reason for anyone - new or old - to start more than 5-6 new threads a day, is there?

Trevor, go ahead and report at least one. In the report, mention that the poster has multiple spam threads. This alerts the mods, when they get around to it, to look at the user rather than the individual thread.

At least, that's how it used to work. The mod drawing the report would simply nuke everything the spammer posted.

Have tried reporting one in the SEO forum just now but methinks this is something for a computer program to swat quicker and cheaper than a human moderator.

I guess it depends how much the new owners value their investment but I know if I'd spent the kind of cash they're said to have laid out, I'd have some spare change to sort out the necessary spam prevention software even if I used my own programmers rather than outsourcing to a freelance site

I build my own Captcha for my website within a day, incl. nice design.
I'm sure, the guts from WF forum, have smarter people then me in house to do this as well.

By not adding anti-spam into the system you would almost think, the need the spam.

I agree but this spam today is spam anyone LOOKING could clearly see. Shouldn't have to be "reported".

Likewise the spam appearing in the past few minutes requires only putting your mouse over the "strange" title to see the "live streaming link" spam.

If mods delete one spam thread without even checking the poster "history" - sorry, but they shouldn't be mods in the first place. We use to have a partnership of mods and members keeping the aisles clean...isn't working now.

Agreed. I'm all for contributing to the community, but I'd rather spend my time answering questions than reporting spam or even just sorting through it. The WF (or really Freelancer) has the resources to deal with this, either technically (which really shouldn't be that hard) or manually. Time for them to step up to the plate.

It's easier to burn it down and rebuild, than to try and put out the fire while revamping it in the process.
