Struggling to get traffic to site

Hey guys, I love this place and read a lot.. Slowly trying to action all of my thoughts.

I run a web design business which is doing well for me at the moment. I am fluent with the web and wordpress, hosting, linux, coding etc. I am extremely interested in using my skills for internet marketing in my time as a hobby and who knows maybe as a full time gig eventually.

I have followed a guide I found online: $200 per day with Adsense and viral websites - Stream SEO

I have implemented this guide with my site: Viral4play | Trending News for You Daily

I am using Facebook posts which I am boosting for around $ 20 - $30 to send traffic to the site targeting my country, Australia as a whole then ages generally 14 - 40 and male not female on some posts that would appeal generally to guys.

My ad sense has earned me 0.1 cents per day.

What am I missing, what am I doing wrong? Do I need to just keep at it as Im going or is there something different I need to do?

I appreciate any input.

    Hi spinx101,

Facebook is probably not a great traffic source for ad sense. Especially if you're just linking out from a fanpage. You need a ton of people to make any real money from ad sense. In my opinion, it would be better to learn some SEO, instead of relying on just paid traffic for Ad Sense.

If you were marketing a high converting affiliate product it would be a different story. At least then you could track your ROI and figure out how much you could afford to spend...

Thanks for your feedback. I think I would struggle to compete with the domain authority of other news websites and I wouldnt see any return on my work for some time.

Thanks for your input, total noob here. Where would I begin with finding an appropriate affiliate or product for my type of site? It isnt really a niche as such to target specific visitors.

I appreciate the above input, thanks.

I think your site might do well or better with Amazon product. Register an account as an Amazon associate and start

example your post on "The creator of 5 hour energy wants to power homes with bikes" might do well with amazon products. Good luck

Clickbank.com or if you want to look for clickbank products by keyword a bit faster than their regular site, Gemstrike. What types of traffic are you getting? I can maybe show you some sample affiliate products to promote (not mine).

That is the best way to go. I agree.

If you don't want to work with affiliate programs and only stick with Google Adsense, make sure you add the code to the TOP of your site. I went to check your website and I have not seen any ads there.

The sites I see doing well with this type of content are not using Adsense. They are using CPM (which pays for exposures). If you get enough traffic, with enough ad networks, you could make many times what you're making with Adsense because all you need people to do is waste time on your site. You get paid every time the ads load, regardless of whether anyone clicks on it or not.

If you can get people to your page for $.05 and the ads combine to pay you $.06, all you have to do is buy enough traffic and have content engaging enough to keep them on the page until all the ads load.

    I checked out your site.

You're just focusing on what's 'viral' instead of a HIGH PAYING NICHE

Unless you get TONS of traffic and you laid out your site so it's easier to get clicks, I'm afraid you're not going to make much money with your current setup.

I would suggest using FB paid traffic to a high CPC niche site.

    Hey spinx101,

What I tell everyone to do is build there list!

Instead of driving traffic to your Facebook pages drive the traffic to a squeeze page that offers them a free eBook or video series for subscribing to your email list.

Then pump out valuable and helpful emails to them (don't promote anything)...

Once you've built that email list to a sizable amount (I'd say a couple hundred) create your group pages and promote your Facebook page to that email list to build a strong community.

Then keep posting valuable content through your emails and Facebook post you can ask start a website or blog or whichever you want and then promote your website to them.

So I think what you should do is promote your squeeze page and start building a list and worry about Facebook later.

    Just my thought though,

    Hope this was helpful

I agree with adam. This is a really good start so don't rush into making money. Build you brand and respect before promoting to your visitors.

    It's like a tabloid site.

Choose a niche or better yet a product that has recurring commissions. Something that people need.

Focus on that product like a laser beam. Set up a sales funnel ( http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...step-step.html ) to opt-in and follow up with prospects.

Don't spend any more money on traffic until you have something set up worth sending visitors to.

    Specialize. That's important.

I'd probably stay away from adsense unless your building a long term site with lots of organic traffic, probably still not worth it in my opinion. Choose a niche, create a site and drive traffic to it, using FB ads, Bing Ads, Content networks(Taboola) etc.

Create sites focusing on what sells.

Some niches attract viewers no sales.

This is what sells: pets, hobbies, sports, baby stuff etc.

Use a good keyword tool. Some of them are free.

Be patient... You have to build your site and that takes time. No overnight miracle.

Avoid the gurus... Most of the good info is available online.

Jessy - your website ranks #1 on Google, however not for the right reasons I'd imagine.

    Look

But I'm assuming that's not what you're looking for?

    Wrong keywords right?

Right there is the secret to SEO - if you are not a genius of keywords, SEO is hard - to the point where I almost wouldn't even recommend giving 2p to the thought of it.

Sweeping statement: as far as SEO is concerned, do the very basics (include a sitemap on your website, ensure the code on your website is valid, up-to-date and multi-browser-proof (easier than it sounds), ensure you use good website etiquette (use sub-category pages and site-maps properly) - submit your websites to the search engines (they each have a page for manual submission - there are a lot of search engines) - then.... LEAVE SEO ALONE.

Honestly that is my advice - because:

Real SEO (the big money making type, huge traffic gen type) either requires a lot of research, keyword campaigns, general hard, tedious work.

It can be pulled off - but it takes more than most people realize, and for what it's worth, most people would be put off to the point of quitting, in my opinion.

If you want to go down that route: ultimately you need to use a variety of keywords which are niche specific, location specific, and use jargon specific to that industry.

You will NOT get #1 on Google for the keyword: "Breast Surgery"

Seriously - SEO is only ever one of two things: really easy and basic, take it for nothing less than what it is - try to keep clean, structured and tidy and you will be fine.

or really difficult - to the point where there is no point trying to fight an "SEO battle" to better all your global competition.

You would be much better off to simply focus on ADVERTISING in almost any other way.

Free advertising for you would include:
    • CraigsList
    • + Other American free-ad's sites
    • Free Ad Cell Phone App's platforms
    • Facebook/Twitter
    • Forums - see the advice I give here (click!)

** for your niche I would focus on forums for professionals - broadly and locally - as well as forums used by comfortable and vein people (clubbers, celebrity followers/fanatics, think of more...)

Assuming you have money - PAY for online advertising with Google and Facebook - both are worth it - just ensure you master keywords - seriously, the words you use are impeccability important!

Assuming you have little money - invest minimally in off-line posters/leaflets through front doors method - seriously. Apply the same logic I teach in that forum post I linked too.

I hope I have given you something to consider and something for you to act upon!

    Peace Jessy.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++

    Now, Peace Sphinx,

It's really hard to tell you without knowing more about your campaign - but from what I can gather from what you have given us (and excuse me if I'm wrong) - but you have a website (a wordpress) which is linked to a Facebook Page - and the purpose of these pages or this service is to provide funny content designed to go viral.

Well - the concept is great - certainly a working model which will make money, especially if your content goes viral, especially if you are promoting the right offers and especially if your site is designed in a way to convert (good clean structure, calls to action, authenticity tells etc. - they are all important!)

    So,
    Determine where the problem is?
    Traffic?
    or Conversion?

If it's traffic - surely your content isn't going as viral as you'd hoped?! You need to practice better content creation, you need to improve this skill through study, practice, review (cycle).

If it's your conversion then you need to work on your keyword skills, you copywriting skills (MEGA important), perhaps the design/presentation of your site (authentic/genuine/trustworthy focus with calls to act). - or perhaps you are promoting the wrong products for that audience - consider this. Perhaps its the ad provider platform you are using, perhaps your should use banners, or services which hyperlink your content text.

Try to get me some more information Sphinx and I'll try to be more helpful,
    Peace.

Personally I'm not a HUGE fan of Facebook ads because:

    1. Hard to master. You need a lot of testing until you get it right.
    2. You need lots of money to start running the ads (unless you get lucky or do the research beforehand and dial in on your audience.

I recommend looking at free traffic methods.

Some of my favorites are forum marketing, and solo ads.

You might have to change your whole business model. I don't think it's in your best interest to pursue with this site and form of making money. Is this the first thing you've tried to make money online, or did/do you have others?

G'day from a Pom in the US
I cant read the whole string but I assume you have some traffic but low level. However traffic is still traffic and a certain % of them should be converting. Average is 3% aka 3 in every 100 visitors should take the action you want. What are you seeing? If you aren't getting sales the Q is why aren't people converting? Is your offer super clear? Is it a compelling offer? Are you at least capturing their email? Send me your url and I'll take a quick look if you like.
