Where to find Writers? The good-ones...

Hey guys,

where do you find good writers?

I used to work with IneedArticles and similar services, however I need some personal touch with writers - to have ability to tell them what specifically do I need, etc.

Where can I find some? I am looking for US/UK, quality content writers...

I tried Upwork, freelancer, even digitalpoint. Any ideas?

Thanks!

    It depends on your niche.

There are lots of authoritative blogs that post guest posts.

Many quality blogs only post materials from contributors who truly know their stuff.

You might want to contact those individuals.

Generally, the rule of thumb regarding quality content is the more SPECIALIZED the writer, the better their output.

Besides, if you want your content to get traction on social media and get cited by niche blogs, you should already be going for that level of quality.

Check out the Warriors for Hire section in this forum. You'll find numerous people, including myself, advertising there.
However, if your budget is very low, you may not have success.

Fiverr is a nice resource for quality writers if you take your time to find them. Shoot them a message and ask them their strengths and weaknesses and easiest topics to write about. There are plenty of educated, solid writers on that site, but they are usually struggling just to find an audience for their sales page. If you do a search you can find professionals on there that write for a living and can even do bulk orders.

This has not been my experience at all.

There are some "OK" writers there if you dig deep . . . I mean really deep.

But I am almost certain that the best writers won't accept $4 for their work and they don't want their names associated with this particular marketplace.

If you are stuck with a budget then yes. I have tried many fiverr writers (approx +-20 different gigs) only 5 of them gave me actual good articles and unique. Rest all gave me some spun shitty articles they got off the internet.

Following the arguments in this thread (as they are trying to answer the
question posed--as to WHERE) it seems to indicate that the quality
of a writer is judged by where he advertises. I don't think that makes
sense as you'll find a mix of writers on any platform. So maybe the
question should be HOW to find a great writer than WHERE?

I agree with this. I know plenty of people that have gotten great quality articles from places like Fiverr, Upwork and forums.

Another question to ask yourself is "WHAT is a good writer?". For some, it might be about price, while others might value a writer that has a funny or personal touch to his writing. There's no set definition of a 'good' writer in my opinion..

Yes. And how to recognise a good writer, especially if writing isn't one of your strong points. That and knowing exactly what it is you're trying to achieve with the article.

Go to hotspots on the subject of interest - like here for
Internet marketing - and hire like a sniper.

People are blown away by the idea they could get
paid to write about something they love to write about
    anyway.

I don't waste any money on general information or
writers who are going to do 10 minutes of research
and crank out a $5 article.

The days of passable crap are long gone IMHO and
that's all you'll get from any service I know of.

    Hi,

    Try iWriter.com.

You can choose the competency level.

And pretty much can tell the writer exactly what you want.

You can message me if you like, my brother has a masters degree and is an amazing writer. My best guess, you're looking at $80 to $100 per 1000 word article, message me if you're interested and I'll put
    you in touch.

This is what you'll be paying (or more) if you truly want GOOD USA based/born writers as you said.

As for the "how " I know my brother gets most of his work via referrals, I would imagine that's how they truly amazing writers like him All get their work

Both UPWORK & FREELANCER is good. Before hiring any freelancer, you should see the freelancer's previous work history & feedback. It is too much important to check their previous work, but it is not important, which site you would like to use. Thanks for understanding.

Constant-Content may be worth a look if you want something that is generally better quality than a content mill. INeedArticles is currently trying to build a similar service into their existing website. (See the "marketplace" in the dashboard).

You have a chance with these, but neither are a guarantee in my opinion (then again, what is lol).

If I HAD to buy content, I'd personally put my egg in the basket writeaway suggested: find the owner/contributors of high quality blogs in my niche. It, in my (albeit untested) opinion, would be the best way to mitigate risk.

There's no consistent and reliable method to find ghostwriters, because writers are flakes.

    I would know...

I've worked as a level 2 Fiverr.com ghostwriter. (Near perfect 5 star rating. Easier said than done for all of the naysayers).

The truth is that a lot of ghostwriters ultimately end up quitting and writing for themselves, or they end up leaving marketplaces where customers want to pay peanuts for high quality content.

So, there's some type of paradox upon which good ghostwriters ultimately stop writing for other people in most marketplaces.

(You do know what a paradox is, don't you? It's two places where you put a boat).

    PS:

So how do you find a good writer? It takes footwork. Check the writer's reviews and their style; if they're still writing, snatch them up quickly before someone else does, or before they find something better to do with their time.

So true. The freelance writing business is a revolving door with new writers coming in and out everyday.

New writers might not know their worth and start working on the cheap. Eventually, they realize their full potential and either start writing for themselves or find high end clients. The goal is to build a solid crew of writers and not put all your eggs in the same basket.

  • Guess you gotta pluck 'em outta the air wherever you find 'em.

Fix on a voice or expertise or angle you fancy, then spin' 'em out for cost.

Worst that can happen is they charge too much or can't write to save their lives.

Actually, no — worst that can happen is they destroy the world with a killer laser & a buncha goono parrot/ox cyborgs.

But, yeah, mosta the time writers are flakes.

Since I moved over to Amazon Kindle, I haven't written much for clients, although I do retain a handful. I've written for them for many years.

My price for an approximately 500 word piece of content - not an article - is $350. Expensive? Not really when you consider that one piece can bring thousands of visitors to their websites and generate thousands of dollars of income.

You need to understand that all things are relative.

These are the kind of relatives I need!

Although I cannot proclaim to be a seasoned pofessional writer by way of having any "seller of writing" experience - for that kind of bread; I could easily sharpen my skills to slice the meat and chisel out another 250 words for some tasty appetizers to make that a recipe worth consuming!

        *Much respect, Annie.

Sadly, to answer the OP's question, if ever I were to write for someone else (*as in for money) I would demand that you knew exactly what you wanted the writing to achieve, or I wouldn't accept the gig.

Again, I've yet to serve my writing's up for the direct release of copyright, but I have to imagine that 'IF' a purchaser is vague - as to the piece's function or purpose, that would make for a nightmare on both parties!

Wouldn't that be like hiring a painter to paint your home, and letting them choose the color, brand, or scheme on blind faith?

        I've read several posts in the Warrior for Hire that left me to wonder;

"Who's more at fault the buyer wanting something for nothing?"

        -or-

"The writer who agrees to supply the request?"

*Easy now, I am not referring to all the transactions or implying people don't reserve the right to conduct business, after all someone is paying for those ad spots... just seems to be a disservice to both parties to me.

So, as others have stated; good writers will command that which they feel is an acceptable 'perceived value' as Annie stated.

        As to where?

I am sure there are excellent writers here, iWriter, or anywhere you look, but you can expect for top-notch writings with a strong call to action, it's likely not going to happen for $2 a piece!

Good writers are on this forum. I would start here. Great writers can be found on the freelance sites also.... they just aren't as versed in "internet marketing" as they should be. You may have to PM a few people and do extensive research about writers and where to find them if you want to find the best one for you. How much are you willing to pay your writers?

Here's a tip that is a little bit off the beaten path so to speak...

Go checkout Fiverr and try out some writers that DO NOT fall in the standars Internet Marketing/Home Business niche categories...

There are amazing writers from the USA that list their services in the "creative writing" or some other non marketing related categories. I have 2 in particular that I have found through trial and error who have been amazing. You would think that people not listed in a certain category would be uninterested in writing for a different one, but you would be surprised.

There are some good ones on fiverr but you may have to order 20 or 30 gigs until you find them. I've found some good ones on there but it takes some digging and usually a few test projects.

As in what components make a great writer and a great piece of written content.

Of course there are areas where you can find an abundance of very above average writers.

But do not totally discount some of the places people mention in here that are getting lambasted

Some have said fiverr isn't a good place to find writer since most good writers don't take $4 for a piece of work...

BUT it depends on the subject, niche and deadline.

I have both my own website and I actively work on fiverr. I also send ads to local businesses offering my services.

There are plenty of awesome writers on fiverr that may charge a great price for basic work but as the work gets harder and more demanding -- the price reflects that.

Don't discount fiverr writers please.. we work just as hard as non fiverr writers. And we are great not just good.

Ok , when everyone talk about writers they think they are cheap working force. I would give you a suggestion. If you like quality writers you can not offer low prices. It is really simple when you think about it. If an average writer gets payed 8 $ an hour you should offer 10 $. That is how the people who know they are worth it will send you proposals and the ones that are no good wont.
At the end of the day the money counts. Low costs will give you quantity higher costs quality.
It is funny how this applies for everything in life.
    Hope this helps.

There are some write in the other region, you can hire them also, if you want. In this case you should see the previous work report of the freelancer before hiring. Thanks

As someone has already stated, the really good writers don't frequent places like the Warrior forum, well perhaps some do occasionally! It is often a pot-luck affair and there are even some decent writers on places such as Fiverr, but you need referrals and experience based suggestions. Writers advertise like everyone else, Google can be a good resource if you use it intelligently - I am a writer, but I do not work for others much these days, like a lot of services providers I became a little jaded with clients..(no offence intended).
