Any great ideas on how I can monetize this niche?

Hi everyone,

I have a relatively good presence in the niche of "Animals for kids"...

I published 9 kindle eBooks in a series of "Amazing facts and photos of... (bears / lions / leopards / Etc)"... , so I also built a Facebook page, which has more than 6,000 followers (Link: https://www.facebook.com/Animals4kids ) and a Pinterest account that is dedicated solely to this niche (Link : https://www.pinterest.com/animalsforkids/ ), hoping to use them to promote my eBooks.

The eBooks did not sell very well on Amazon - Kindle (although they received some great reviews), so I'm not marketing them very vigorously anymore...

However, I thought to myself that since I already have good presence in this niche + some great eBooks that I can offer (or give free, with affiliate links inside them?), and since I personally like this niche, maybe there are other ways I can make money from it ?

Does any of you have any great ideas on how I can use what I've already got to make some money?

Thanks, Roni

I would recommend using Amazon's affiliate program to incorporate into all of your Facebook posts. For example, if you post on your Facebook a picture and fact about sharks, place your Amazon link on a book about shark facts within that post.

The nice thing about this niche is there are so many different animals and thus so many different books you can offer your audience.

    Don't think about your product.

Or the subject matter it relates to.

Think about who's consuming your products, their
    problems, challenges, dreams and desires.

You may not be able to sell these books to parents
with kids, but as a parent with kids I spend a lot
    of money related to them.

Step outside the box of "I write books about
animals for kids" and see the bigger picture of
how those books fit into the life of your customers.

You get that right and you'll make more money by
    giving them away.

      Roni,

It sounds to me like you may have skipped doing online market research before you created your Kindle books.

The reason this is such an important step is because it's critical that you know where there is buying demand in the marketplace if you intend to sell something. Demand for specific products is out there . . . but many people ignore that demand, make or write their own products that are not in demand, and fail miserably when they try to sell them.

I'm suggesting that you conduct your market research in your chosen niche and learn what people in that niche are wanting to purchase.

You see, people in this forum most likely don't understand your niche market. But you're asking them what is going to sell. How do they know?

Why don't you learn to do market research (it's not difficult). The WF search function will help you out. What you will learn from it will open your eyes as to what people in your niche are wanting to purchase.

      Does this make sense?

      The best to you,

I did conduct some market research and was convinced that there is a certain demand for this kind of eBooks on Amazon, but it's too much efforts to get reasonable sales and the money you can make is too small...

I agree with you, Steve. I'm just not sure how to find out what people in that niche want to purchase (Other than to guess what 9 - 12 years old kids who love to learn about animals might want to purchase)...

It is not 9-12 year old kids that are buying. It is their parents. Think clothes, toys etc.

Don't underestimate how powerful back end sales can be. You found a unique way to attract those eyeballs. Now use it to your advantage.

I agree with Steve. Since your goal is to monetize this niche you need to know whether or not people in your niche are willing to spend money. Send out a survey to your facebook followers and ask them what they wouldn't mind spending money on. You need to get feedback from your audience.

      Thank you X,

It's a good advice. I also thought about giving my eBooks away (after I will place affiliate links in them)... I'm just not 100% sure how to create the funnel (i.e: What to sell and how to pull the readers from my eBook to the sales page / how to make them click the link)? But at least I have the direction....

      Thanks, Roni

YES, search the market before to launch something on it. Many markets are not good for business

Roni, when I saw "animals for kids", two things popped into my head immediately...

    1. That sounds like a fair trade.

    2. your topic is about pets for children.

My guess is that may be part of the problem. People see "animals4kids" and go looking for info on pets, then find a series of picture books on a wide variety of animals.

So now you have the classic "product in search of a market."

Who could use picture books with amazing facts about animals?

Home schoolers was the first thing that popped into my head. Next was daycare providers.

Maybe you just need to reposition? It's worth exploring, I think.

    1. Make a free Animals4Kids Library membership site. You build a targeted list here.
    2. Write more on this niche you already love with.
    3. Learn traffic and bring them a lot to your membership site.
    4. Monetize inside your membership site with your Amazon aff-link selling toys or anything parents love to buy for their kids.
    5. Don't forget to sell a writing service (ebook/article/etc) on this niche. Who knows it can make a surprised fortune?

So you don't have to leave the lovely things you've been just doing!
    Good luck.

Try YouTube ads or Facebook ads. Probably the easiest way to dial in on your target audience and get eyes on your stuff.

      Thanks Edwin,

My problem is not to get people to see my stuff, but to actually monetize the traffic... If I'll find a good way to monetize the traffic, then for sure I will invest more in FB ads, in order to bring even more traffic...

      Cheers, Roni

    Hey there,

Honestly (in my opinion) the best way to go about doing this would be to build a list around your niche.

Just build a squeeze page and give them a free eBook when they signup.

Once you build a sizable list ask them what questions they have about your topic.

Build a social media page for them to get active in.

Once you've built a good size community, go out and try to attract potential sponsors who may want to use your community to promote an event or an offer and monetize it through that way.

Honestly, if you build a big enough following those sponsors will come automatically, but this is the best way I can think of..

    Hope this helps

if you’ve got a steady flow of traffic, advertising space is a great way to create some passive income month to month. And, you can even set it up as a subscription service, so you get a lump sum each month.

You might not like this but I think i should share it,There is no shame in asking for people who so graciously read your content for free, to buy you a cup of coffee for your efforts.
Of course you shouldn’t try and build your sole income from this. But it’s a good source of income if you really don’t have other options to monetise your blog.

Launching on amazon has the same concept
as launching any product as a wso or any other
form of promotion. What you need to do before
you launch is give away a free teaser to your
actual product and collect the email addresses.

Send them to a squeeze page to get their free
teaser, once they type in their email address
take them to a page letting them know about
when your actual product is about to launch.

You need to gather as many emails as possible
within a 3 week period before you actually launch.
So when you launch your product on amazon
you already have fans that will rush and buy on
the day you launch your product.

Amazon will take notice of the spike in sales on
the day you launch and they will give your kindle
book more exposure which leads to more sales.

    To your success!

I was wondering how easy it would be to get those buyers onto different mailing lists depending on the animal they're interested in - so you can send out email specific to each animal recommending products.

From physical products through to training programs (obedience or grooming - not sure what's out there).

You could use something like Survey Funnel on your website before they actually opt-in to split the traffic to the relevant list.

I wonder if .X (... listen to him) is also saying "What are you really selling?"

When a parent buys that book what are they really buying, and what are they really buying for their kid. I'm not sure but I guess it's everything from knowing what pets are easy to maintain, what pets are dangerous through (... the parents piece of mind) to buying a means of instilling responsibility and confidence in their child.

Have you tried marketing to daycare centres and primary/high schools. Offer something free to the schools so that you can get your stuff noticed. Start with one school as a ginea pig to see how you can capture a school. Even if you get knocked back continue to inquire at another school asking them if they would be interested or even ask how would a school appeal to this. Alot of them have newsletters that are electronic, so if you could offer something free to them as a barter for you to advertise your products. Definitely you need to go where the traffic is and that is in schools. Hope this helps Jennifer

    Roni,

Any idea how many of them viewers of yours (kids and their parents) are Android and iOS mobile users?

Any idea how many of them Facebook fans and Pinterest followers of yours are Android and iOS mobile users?

Well, if you have a significant number of kids and parents checking out your site, your Facebook page and your Pinterest posts, then you could try profiting from pay per install mobile offers (you get paid when your viewers download and install the apps, even free ones, that you promote in your site, Facebook page and Pinterest posts) and pay per sale offers (you get higher commissions when those free app users convert to premium app users, and also when you sell books and songs and so on) ...

Think of educational games, straight up games for kids, animated mobile books for kids, songs for kids and so on ...

Check out how to sign up as an Apple iTunes affiliate and as an affiliate of the top Android (and iOS) PPI networks out there ...

Have you considered private labeling some animal type products from overseas with your brand on them? You already have quite the community to launch to so that's a huge competitive advantage. I would create the product and market it like heck to that community and launch it on Amazon.

Then build up momentum on Amazon and continue to grow through their ecosystem. You have what most people want most which is a community.

    Roni,
First of all, I think you did a great job here. I had a chance to look at your Facebook page as well as some of your books. I really don't think you're as far off as you might think.

First off, here is what I would do.

I'd go to Amazon and I'd navigate to Children's Books > Animals and then I would just spend some time seeing what IS selling like crazy.

There is an entire category for Elephant books in the Children's book section, so I'd say you're fine on the topic.

Next, take a long hard look at the top selling books:
    hxxp://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_pg_1?rh=n%3A283155%2Cn%3A!1000%2Cn%3A4%2Cn% 3A2787%2Cn%3A2816&sort=review-count-rank&ie=UTF8&qid=1445443731

Nearly all of them have a cartoon style illustrated cover. I would definitely think about hiring out a inexpensive illustration for a better cover, assuming you would like to spend more time and money on this idea.

One idea that came to mind was to introduce a cartoon character who would tie in all the different books.

For instance, "Jasper (a cartoon dog) visits the Elephants" And on each page, you can have a drawing of this dog who points to the facts or asks questions like "Can you find the elephant with a long tail?".

Then, you can make a "Jasper visits the Monkeys"...so there is a tie in between each book in the series.

Lastly, just by typing in "elephant" in Amazon, I can see that "elephant and piggie" are killing it in that space. I would buy a few of their books and look over there reviews to find out what people like the best about that series. What are they doing to get people to buy the next book in the series.

    Hope this helps,
    Jack Duncan
