PayPal Verified Business or Premier Account Required!

Hey All,

I'm setting up a new project and I've decided to require a PayPal verified Business or Premier account to become a member. There are several reason for this decision but mostly it's because I feel like if you can't or won't verify a business account, you are not worth working with. I want leaders, not "hiders."

Which account type is right for you?

Premier accounts are for members who will have a high transaction volume, need to accept credit card payments, or would like access to our special features not offered with Personal accounts. Premier accounts include all the benefits of Personal accounts, as well as our special features.

Business accounts allow you to do business under a company or group name, accept all payment types for low fees, and accept payment from customers without PayPal accounts. Business accounts include all of the benefits of Premier accounts, as well as our special features.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with platforms like Zaxaa that require a verified account to receive instant payments.

I got an email from Amazon reading in part:
We think you may be interested in Amazon Business, as there is a corporate purchasing card associated with your Amazon account.
They are targeting the account type.

I find this very interesting and wonder if this is the direction online commerce is headed. Different "tiers" of buyers and sellers?

Basically saying, "I won't sell to you because you can't or won't do simple things to inspire trust."

Are any of you "qualifying" buyers this way?

Would you resent businesses because they won't sell to you because you don't have a verified business account?

Would you rather make more up front sales by selling to anyone?

I look forward to your opinions!

Thanks for reading.

Brent

Brent- I would have no problem, in fact i think it's a must if your serious about business. It seems anyone with 10 fingers and access to a PC can run a "business" these days... Use the clown above as an example...

For me a verified business account is a must. PayPal has an API that checks PayPal accounts to see if they are verified.

This is the problem JVZoo has with fraudulent affiliate steeling money from vendors.

It is much harder to get a verified business account and is much harder for an affiliate that has a verified PayPal account to be fraudulent.

No one gets instant commissions if they don't have a verified business PayPal account. That is why I use the DUvisio.com platform.

To me if you don't have a verified Business PayPal account then you are most likely to be fraudulent.

I also believe that PayPal is discontinuing the Premier accounts. This is according to my PayPal representative.

I'd say Premier OR Business Acct (but the 'verified' is the critical part) - I would think the seller was serious about business if I saw that. I have one of each as most active IMers probably do.I think many people try to use unverified personal accts to do business - and then wonder why they have problems with Paypal.

You're allowed to have a Business and a Premier? I didn't know that. I thought you could have one Business/Premier and one personal. In other words a Premier and a personal or a Business and a personal. I didn't know you could have Business and Premier. Cool.

You can have many PayPal accounts. You are allowed to have a personal account and business account. But you are also allowed to have several child accounts, which after 24 hours transfers all money received in the child accounts to the parent account.

But you can only tie a bank account to only 2 PayPal accounts for verification. However, bank accounts are not limited to checking accounts so you can have two PayPal accounts tied to a savings account and two PayPal accounts tied to a checking account.

Plus your bank can open a child account to your regular checking account and you can have 2 more child PayPal accounts verified through the child checking account.

This way if you have several different businesses you can collect money that is a child PayPal account labeled for that specific business.

I hope this has been helpful,

The Premier acct is an upgrade from my initial personal acct long ago - the other acct was opened as a business acct. You are allowed two accts - and of course there are ways to get more. Keeping up with two is enough for me!

I don't have a personal acct at Paypal - online shopping stuff goes through the premier acct.

I understand you are allowed two, but I always thought you were allowed a personal account and either a Business or Premier account, but not a Business and a Premier. In other words everyone is allowed to have a personal account and then they can have one more account which could be a Business account OR a Premier account, but not both. I guess I'm wrong in that?

I've had my Premier and Business for ten years or so - have used both extensively with no problem. In fact, AFTER I opened the biz acct paypal asked if I wanted to upgrade the personal to premier.

I've seen paypal state you can have "one consumer acct" and "one business acct" - I would assume both personal and premier could be considered consumer accts.

Oh OK I understand now. That makes perfect sense. A business account and a consumer account.

You are correct, a premier account is a deluxe personal account because you do not have to enter any proof of business to receive a premier account.

No. But then I don't think Amazon is saying that, either...

All they are really doing is "segmenting" their list one step further.

They already have a buyers' list, and now they are further qualifying that list.

With their customers segregated into corporate vs. non-corporate accounts, they can get a little more sophisticated with their direct marketing efforts.

They already use email to send backend offers to existing customers. They can refine those offers to "corporate" accounts simply by mailing offers that are more business oriented - rather than sending an offer for collapsible garden hoses, or erotic thrillers. Also, if they decided to offer a store brand credit card (i.e. an "Amazon card") having a pre-established group of "corporate" accounts gives them a better test group for initial marketing of that feature.

They aren't going to refuse non-corporate customers. They are just refining their existing list for better targeted future marketing.

I have a Personal and Business in my name and another business account in my partners name that I have Admin privileges for.

Which is probably why they are getting rid of that level, do you think? It's kind of redundant?

    -------------------------
There is no reason to qualify buyers because of this because a buyer does not have to have a PayPal account to buy from you if you are using PayPal to process Payments. They can use a credit card not connected to PayPal. So, the risk is always there.

However, it is very, very beneficial to use the verification of a PayPal account for every affiliate or merchant you work with.

It is much harder for a person to get a verified business or premier account over a plain business or premier account.

People planning on creating fraudulent transactions will not want to tie that PayPal account to their bank. There is a definite problem for them to do that.

Therefore, just working with affiliates and merchants that have a verified PayPal account reduces fraud to almost zero.

    Best regards,
    Steve Yakim
