Is the new Google domains the GoDaddy killer?

I just saw a new service by Google in which they are getting into the buying/selling domains market - it's currently in Beta.

Has anyone purchased any domains or have any experience with this new service?

I wonder what chunk of GoDaddy's business will they be able to take away in the domain space.

Looks interesting.

You mention some good points Complex. I do think that if Google is able to connect their domains with some of their other services (such as Gmail) to a point that it is way more convenient than using GoDaddy, then I can see myself moving away and going to Google Domains. Let's see what happens.

I would be more inclined to go with Google, just for the sake of helping with SEO. I think their expertise in this area would sway people to buy from them. They are already dipping into hosting, this would just put it together. I know I will take advantage of it.

Well, they are not offering SEO services ( nor do i believe they are stupid enough to offer it ), as far as hosting, they are targeting enterprises and not small business.

For $12 per domain vs $0.99 domains, few decades late to the market, and nothing new to offer.

Google doesn't really have the best reputation as well, Google would probably be the last resort for IMers.

I am guessing Google just tasting the water, not the first time, sooner or later, they may end up shutting it down like they done with a billion other products ( GAN ), Google doesn't look for small profit, they like to play Big, and I am sorry to tell Google, you playing in the wrong market.

If Godaddy keeps up I doubt I would switch even if it means a few bucks less per domain.
I always found Godaddy pretty easy to use and support on call.

I wouldn't get too excited about this Google development.

Remember, Google consistently embarks on new experimental projects then drops them.

Their purge rate is quite high.

Unless they ramp up big time, I wouldn't bet on GoDaddy or other registrars.

It seems not to be a surprise but this time Google can hardly win, Goddady has its reputation for a long time.
